It doesn't take a expert to see....
x86 based PS4/Neo
AMD chipsets PS4/Neo
Did you forget that these consoles are basically PC's now Flynn?
VaLL, I don't think you're understanding the conversation (or I'm missing it). :-) I get we disagree on a lot, but we need to understand the conversation to partake in it... so this is long, but read it:
Now, I'm
guessing and
inferring Rollins
IS NOT asking "
if a dev makes a patch for their game, will it get a boost on Neo?", because that question is obviously YES. Obviously if a developers pops open their code base for a legacy title, re-compile with an updated Sony dev kit, and test out running their game in NEO mode they will be able to get a boost... but (again), I don't think that's what he was asking.
No argument there. Obviously that's true... and if Rollins was only asking that, then my apologies, I made a bad assumption. But let's look at the question he asked:
Rollins' Question:
"
My question is, could Sony change that if they wanted to? Could they realistically give legacy games a boost ? Is it possible at all? And if it is, is it feasible from a money/time view?"
My inference of what Rollins meant to ask:
"My question is, could Sony change [their current plan to have compat mode run at exactly the same frequency as PS4] if they wanted to? Could they [Sony] realistically give legacy games a boost [without dev intervention/patching]? Is it possible at all [to give legacy games a boost without cracking the source, updating SDK, making changes, testing, re-submitting, and re-releasing an update]? And if it is, is it feasible from a money/time view?"
Now, if THAT is the question Rollins is asking, then your answer is nonsensical and irrelevant, VaLL. But if that's NOT what he's asking, then my responses have been nonsensical and irrelevant. :-)
But if that is the question he's asking, the answers are:
"My question is, could Sony change [their current plan to have compat mode run at exactly the same frequency as PS4] if they wanted to?
Yes, they could, but it introduces significant risk to do so. See my earlier post in this thread.
Could they [Sony] realistically give legacy games a boost [without dev intervention/patching]?
No more than what Xbox S has done (if that), and even that is, again, very risky, ill-advised, and wouldn't have any impact (no perf bonus) with some or most titles. Probably won't happen.
Is it possible at all [to give legacy games a boost without cracking the source, updating SDK, making changes, testing, re-submitting, and re-releasing an update]?
Yes, they could, but it introduces significant risk to do so. See my earlier post in this thread.
And if it is, is it feasible from a money/time view?"
It's an SDK update/OS change Sony would have to do. So it's possible, but probably not worth the risk.
...but 100% of those "yes's with caveats" have NOTHING to do with Game developers or publishers, and 100 to do with Sony's platform devs/policy.
