I know some people were trying to downplay DD2 sales because they sold 2.5 million in eleven days, the first game took a month to sell 1 million.
Everything else keeps going up but hardware down like 2-3 years in a row now. But they don't need it as much as their competition because of their services expansion plans.
Xbox Console Sales Are Tanking

The tech giant announced in its third-quarter earnings that Xbox Series X and S revenue is down 30 percent year-over-year. It blamed the nosedive on a “lower volume of consoles sold” during the start of 2024. If that sounds like a repeat of last year, it’s because it is. “Xbox hardware revenue decreased 30% on a strong prior year comparable, driven by lower volume of consoles sold,” Microsoft reported back in April 2023.
In February, Grand Theft Auto VI parent company Take-Two claimed in a presentation to investors that there were roughly 77 million “gen 9" consoles in people’s homes. It didn’t take fans long to do the math and speculate that Microsoft had only sold around 25 million Xbox Series X/S consoles to-date. That puts it ahead of the GameCube but behind the Nintendo 64, at least for now. Given the results this quarter as well, it doesn’t seem like Game Pass and Starfield have moved the needle much.
I wonder if all of them are gamepass players or actually own them.
I’ve bought games like halo, Starfield and others physical or digital (sometimes both) and when I play them I’ll get the Xbox app alert saying to claim my rewards for playing a game pass game.
Could be mostly Game Pass players. But remember, they are only 10-15%.
The sudden influx of Gamepass players = the biggest jump they have had for a first party game. Also because Diablo 4 was loved by many of multiplatform owners.
Well in the history of Xbox they are now having:
- Record revenue
- Record net income (profits)
- Record game sales
- Record services revenue
- Record number of game studios
- Record number of first party games
- Record number of devices to play on from their console, the Switch, PC, streaming to TVs, iOS and Android.

Thanks to the help of Activision Blizzard King, Microsoft's Xbox games division has made more revenue in 3 quarters than all previous full year periods.
