Primary antagonist :

Cool concept, screen shots look good. Definitely interested in seeing how this game pans out.

Initially I was going to pass on this, BUT the more I see the more I want it. Come on and get localized for the US this year please.

Chick with the boobs is obviously Ivy from Soul Caliber. Cross over confirmed!!!

Man, Link looks adorable as ever! Now if only we had four player coop multiplayer in it as well. A bit like Four swords, smashing monsters while lazily hanging on a couch with a few friends? .... SIGN ME UP!:p

Hyrule Warriors Developers Share More Interesting Tidbits On The Game

Nintendo and Tecmo Koei had quite a lot to share this week on their upcoming collaboration, Hyrule Warriors. Amidst talking about how the game came to be, and the subject of breaking away from Zelda traditions, the Hyrule Warriors developers shared a few more tidbits in a Famitsu magazine interview.

Two of Tecmo Koei’s popular series, the Warriors games and the Dead or Alive games, both games that have a wide range of characters to choose from. Famitsu asked about whether we’ll see a similar selection in Hyrule Warriors.

General producer Hisashi Koinuma agreed that the Warriors games’ main appeal is partly the action and partly the vast amount of playable characters.

“Out of all the playable characters [in Hyrule Warriors], there are some surprising characters that made us say ‘why did you pick this one?!’” added Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma.

When asked whether Aonuma had any requests for certain characters to be in the game, he responded by saying that he didn’t, and that Tecmo Koei took care of most of that. He also joked that Hyrule Warriors has so many characters, that his own staff would get mad at him if he were to ask them to do something similar.

During the interview, the developers also talked about weapon selection for the characters. According to Hyrule Warriors producer Yosuke Hayashi, characters can change their weapons and have a completely different fighting style. Since it’s a Warriors game, he also revealed that there will be weapon enhancement and character growth systems implemented in the game.

While on the subject of weapons, the Fire Rod-type item seen in the trailer might seem like something out of The Legend of Zelda, but Aonuma confirmed that it isn’t from the series, and that if a rod like that existed in The Legend of Zelda, we wouldn’t be able to use it in the same way.

Similar to other Zelda games, weapons and other important in Hyrule Warriors are acquired through treasure chests. Hayashi also said that the iconic treasure chest opening animation has been prepared for all of the playable characters.

“This is actually a very valuable scene [in The Legend of Zelda]. And this also applies to Hyrule Warriors,” emphasized Aonuma.

Hayashi also touched a bit on the game’s boss fights. According to the producer, The Legend of Zelda games have very high-quality boss fights, and if Tecmo Koei were to try emulating something similar, they wouldn’t stand a chance.

Instead, they’re giving the boss fights a Warriors touch, by having instances where you’ll face a bunch of smaller enemies to charge up your meter, then unleash a special attack on the boss. There will also be more Zelda-like features, such as strategically using items that can be found around stages to take on the boss.

Finally, the three developers shared a message each for fans anticipating the game.

Koinuma: “We plan on having Hyrule Warriors’ first playable demo at E3 this year. With E3 being the opener, we’ll be releasing more and more new information afterwards, so please look forward to it!”

Hayashi: “After watching the trailer that will be shown at E3, it would make us happy to know that you guys will get a better idea of what we’re trying to do. We’ll sequentially reveal the other playable characters, so don’t miss it!”

Aonuma: “I believe it’s safe to say that this title was born as one of the answers from thinking of a new The Legend of Zelda game. By all means, we’d love to have as many people possible enjoy this game.”

Hyrule Warriors will be released on August 14, 2014 for Wii U in Japan and later on in the West.

Game sounds like fun, but I'm not liking some of the designs for the characters in this game. Especially the antagonist. She doesn't really fit in a Zelda game.

Hyrule Warriors will feature Zelda’s traditional voice acting

Hyrule Warriors won’t feature any major voice acting, according to the game’s official Twitter account. Players will instead by presented with the standard types of voices that the Zelda series has been known for. “Each character’s voice is modeled after the Zelda universe,” a message posted on the game’s Japanese Twitter account states. “It will have that ‘Hey! Listen!’ kind of feeling.” I imagine that most won’t be surprised by this news. Still, I’m curious: how do you guys feel about the lack of expanded voice acting?

Is this a Tingle confirmation!?

When they announced it...i didn't think much of it. I honestly still don't, i really simply want the new Zelda. But who knows, maybe a new trailer will make me change my mind. I am willing to bet that this releases near the holidays and the new Zelda either Spring 2015 or actually holiday 2015.

I just hope for four player Coop, but that probably is too much to hope for :p. Buy a man can hope can't he :), chopping about together with four friends? Sounds like a hell of a lot of fun :).

I'll put the game on my radar because it's affiliated with Zelda. The combat to Zelda games is usually the most boring, but I am too much of a fan of the franchise to ignore it. I hope it's meaty and actually not just a cash in.

Zelda: Twilight Princess’ Agitha Is Playable In Hyrule Warriors

This week’s issue of Famitsu magazine reveals that Agitha from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be a playable character in Hyrule Warriors. (Hokanko via Game Jouhou)

The magazine also reveals that Zant and Argorok will appear in the game in some fashion.

Additionally, Famitsu mentions a playable character by the name of “Lana”. We aren’t certain who this is. Perhaps she’s the new character in the Hyrule Warriors box art in Japan?

Hyrule Warriors will be available in Japan this August. A U.S. release will follow in late-September

Ganondorf and more announced for Nintendo’s ‘Hyrule Warriors’ via their Nintendo Direct

Update: The presentation is now over. A replay can be found below, but the news they chose to focus on at the very end was that Ganondorf will be playable in the game, which should surprise nobody but was still cool to see.

There was also one big disappointment, though: The game will feature a bunch of “classic” costume sets for characters, so they’ll be dressed like their versions from the likes of Skyward Sword. That part is cool. The disappointing part is that each of these is a retailer-specific pre-order bonus, meaning you have to pre-order the game just to get one of them, and that it will be practically impossible at launch to get them all.

Before you freak out too much, these sorts of retailer exclusives are almost always only for a limited time, and these costume sets will probably be available to the general public (likely with a small fee attached) sometime after launch. Still, it’s an annoying sales practice and it’s a shame to see it utilized here.

Anyway, the presentation mostly focused on the general gameplay of Hyrule Warriors, much of which seemed especially aimed at those who had never played a Dynasty Warriors game before. They explained the basics of combat, the way different items will work and how characters will improve over time.

Some of these things were cooler than others. One standout: A weapon that is essentially the moon from Majora’s Mask, which you pull down onto enemies on the battlefield. A totally over the top but pretty neat homage to a fan favorite game. Another N64 throwback: hidden Gold Skulltula’s (like inOcarina of Time).

Also shown off was the game’s Adventure Mode, which seems to be most heavily influenced by the original Legend of Zelda on the NES, in the sense that you select missions from a overworld grid that seems to mirror that original classic, both in graphics and content.

But they also named off an impressive list of characters that will be playable in the game, including a few that were previously unannounced.

Shown off were Link, Zelda, Impa, Sheik, Darunia (Leader of the Gorons from Ocarina of Time), Princess Ruto (Zora princess from Ocarina of Time), Midna, Agatha and Zant from Twilight Princess), Fi and Ghirahim from Skyward Sword), and the aforementioned Ganondorf.

Hyrule Warriors will also feature brand new characters that don’t come from any previous Zelda games. The one they announced was Lana, The White Sorceress, who they said was “one of the key characters” in the game’s story, and a character named Cia.

Several level environments were also announced and shown off: Skyloft (from Skyward Sword), Lake Hylia (Ocarina of Time) and Twilight Field (Twilight Princess). They said that most of the other stages are also inspired by those three Zelda games, specifically.

For the full video, including demonstrations of various weapons and an army of cuccos, look below.

Original story: There’s been a fair bit of excitement surrounding Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U gameHyrule Warriors, which is currently scheduled to hit US stores on September 26. At its core it’s a mashup of the surprisingly popular Dynasty Warriors games (I say “surprising” because they’re not generally considered great games, but they have a very loyal following) and The Legend of Zelda, which is a cross-over that has even non-Dynasty Warriors fans intrigued.

At 10 p.m. central time, Nintendo will be hosting one of its live Nintendo Direct videos, devoted entirely to the game. They’ve given no indication over what, specifically, will be discussed, so it could be anything including gameplay specifics, new character announcements, detailed breakdowns of game modes or all of the above.

The only thing you might want to hope doesn’t get announced is a delay of the game’s release date. For better or worse, Hyrule Warriors is currently one of the bigger Wii U games Nintendo will have leading up to the holiday season.

In any case, you can watch the entire thing live right here, or come back later when we’ll post an archive of the video.

Very cool roster of characters. Great animations too. Soldiers don't seem very helpful though. They just seem there for the most part. Also, I found it funny that the guy said normal weapons wouldn't work on a boss and revealed the secret to be a bow. Game looks awesome.
