Phantom Dust HD : Out Now for FREE!!

Went to dl this on my laptop and only have a install on Xbox option :txbconfused:

I haven't played it yet, but it's installed and ready for a go. Eventually.
 
I really wanted to like this game, as I missed out on it the first time around on the original Xbox, and especially now that it's receiving favored cult classic status. But what I found is that, while there are some nice touches like the myriads of powers and the complexity of the skill book(s), overall Phantom Dust is just a clunky mess that should have probably been left in the dustbin or given a proper sequel that addressed its many shortcomings.

My biggest gripe is with the non-intuitive combat controls, where I found myself constantly fighting with directions and the lock-on mechanism, more so than actual enemies. Frustrating to the point of giving up and finding a better game to play. Also, navigating the confusing underground home base with no directional guide in order to talk to several lame characters (that looked like something out of Rocky Horror Picture Show or a Ziggy Stardust video) for the next mission got extremely tedious. It was just full of really bad game design, in my opinion. The actual combat was pretty fun, at least at first, but with such a limited number of maps, the poorly implemented lock-on mechanism and the all-around clunky controls becoming more cumbersome to manage on higher levels, that fun was pretty much negated by huge amounts of frustration.

I know many of you love this game, and I'm glad it's there for you. But wow, I'm not a fan, not at all. Different strokes for different folks. At least it's free, so nobody gets hurt casting their magic spells.

Now bring on much better original Xbox games. Thank you, MS. Can't wait!
