You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future.

You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek.

We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed.
Want to try before you buy? Well, good news! We’ll also offer a free seven-day trial to the subscription program when it launches.

PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, including indie developers. Here’s a look at some of the key titles:

There’s strong value with the subscription, as you’re getting access to over a hundred great games and lots of hours of game time. What’s more, we will be adding even more games over time, so you will always have something great to play.

Also, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download the theme before January 31, you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now. I hope you will give the new PlayStation Now subscription a try, and I look forward to hearing your continued feedback as we grow the service.

Any game relying on timing will be unplayable.

Needs to be cheaper. $15 a month streaming old PS3 games or $16 ($23 for two games at a time) a month Gamefly subscription to get new games?

well this looks to be super fails. way to much for that s***.

Sounds okay to me. I'll consider it. I could pay $20 and give a test run to about 20 different games, maybe find one in the bunch that I like. I owned a PS3, but I skipped a lot of them because I didn't want to plunk down the cash to buy them. This is different, though -- if I don't like one, it's on to the next one. I could test out a lot of them, rapidly. Then I'd just buy the ones I liked.

Has anyone used this service yet? How is the responsiveness between controller and on-screen action?

Does it include new releases? PS3 only games (multigen would be a waste) might make it worthwhile, newer games you'd be hard pressed to get used for under $20 and you could play a bunch.

Yeah, they look like all old PS3/multiplatform games.

Much better pricing. Not something I am interested in. However, looking beyond myself, this could be a great service when it hits other technologies, like Sony Tvs & Blu-ray players. Imagine, $20 a month and you get to play all those amazing games we played last-gen.

That is Sony's plan and it could be huge for them.

This is a far better option than paying the prices they are asking when you do it on a game by game basis. Still I don't think this service will succeed and they've probably wasted a good deal of money on this that could have been spent elsewhere.

Yeah this probably isn't for the hardcore gamers out there who likely have already moved on and gotten a new gen console. I just don't know how big the market for this kind of thing is but I guess since the service will be built into not only Sony tv's but also Samsung tv's they could get a few people to try it out over time. Still not confident that they'll actually do a lot of business with this but that's just my feeling on it.

I was thinking if this is available on every smart TV/Tablet then this could become the Netflix of gaming services. $20 a month is nothing for unlimited access to a lot of really good games.

Can't wait to sub and play some of the PS3's best games right on my PS4. The ability to play them with the DS4 is worth the money alone to me. The DS3 wasn't bad but the new controller makes that much of a difference to me.

Yep if I was a casual gamer that didn't want to pay $400 or much care to play the newest games, this service would be pretty neat, especially if you had a device that would just stream this stuff.

Hakuouki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossoms released for PS3? I never knew that. Now if Amnesia can just make the cut!

That pic is hard to make out titles, here is a link to the full list:

As someone who skipped on PS3, I saw maybe a dozen titles I would be interested in playing. But it would take me longer than 3 months to go through them. It's no surprise they are not offering anything more than a 3 month sub because at that pricing structure you would be seeing a $150 full year sub which would show even more how I personally would be better off just buying a PS3 and a couple titles I really wish I had played.

Alas, I already have a next gen backlog, and it seems the important titles I missed are getting remade with better graphics. Streaming is less than optimal also so I am going to pass on this.

Would be nice if Plus members could get it for 12 bucks a month or something, but 15 dollars isn't bad. I have enough games to play as it is, but I can see this being appealing on the road.

Ill bite when it's 10 a month for PS plus members.

I think the offer may seems half decent or even good for maybe a year or maximum 2, by then the desire to play older games probably wear off with respect to the price, coupled with stronger library of games available on PS4.

Unless they add some new indie games in the max, instead of old games, I think the novelty will wear off fast.

I am actually going to disagree. Right now it being old games severly hamper it for large success. Like, there is no real target market. The niche amount of gamers who will pay for this to replay old games (or even go back) has to be small.

And it really has to be countries with good internet.

If this became a future service for all games thats something, but no publisher is going to want to do that for now. I think its a great idea...but simply don't see the successful business part of this outside of stopping the smalll number of gamers who enter a generation late from buying used games at gamestop instead (which may be enough for them who knows).

you must have miss this part:

"PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, ( ( (including indie developers.) ) ) "

to add to that....

1. "Yes! There are some amazing games for PS1 and PS2 and our longer term vision is to go back further into the PlayStation generational library and offer those with PlayStation Now.

Right now however, we are focused on bringing to users experiences from the amazing PS3 library.

The over 100 PS3 games you see at launch for subscription is just the beginning! The games in the subscription catalog will evolve over time with fresh PS3 games coming in on a regular basis."

2. "Yes, new games will be added to the subscription service on a monthly basis – we are big believers in keeping the game catalog fresh and interesting for our subscribers and this will evolve over time."

3. "The PS Now rental catalog already has 200+ games and games are added weekly so yes, you may find some games that will not be in the current subscription offering but can still be rented individually.

Subscriptions will give you access to 100+ games that get unlimited access and this catalog will evolve over time."

4. "Yes, saves will be saved in the PS Now cloud servers!
If your membership runs out and you decide to come back later, your saves will be waiting."

this is exactly like Netflix. and $20 is not a lot when you're talking about games - especially over 100 of them. that's like $5 a week without a contract. and the fact that its flexible across various devices easily justifies the cost, I think.

this is a big rip off, how is it that we cant get BC but instead have us pay a service for streaming old games? Then say that EA service is junk?

Did they say EA Access was junk? I don't recall them saying that.

Anyway, can you imagine how hard it would be to get the current hardware BC with the old hardware?

It is not a rip off either, it is simply a choice. Nobody forced people to get rid of their old hardware. You want to play PS3 games, play them on hardware specifically designed for them.

Good to know there are additional support. Like I mentioned, the urge to play older game diminsih as there are more game for current gen. Sure, once in a while you wanted to boot up your old console to play a title or 2. Keyword is 'once in a while'. At least from my own experience.
15bucks (which will totally be even more expensive across the pond) is a bit to pay monthly if you only occasionally play these games.

While the pricing models are similar, Tv shows & movies do not age like video games. I am not saying the service is bad, but I am just questioning the subtainablity of the in the long run, unless of course the lineup for indies title are strong. If people wanted to subscribe, I am not stopping them.
