This was formerly known as Vita TV.

Here are the main selling points:
  • Plays a lot of Vita and PSP games on TV
  • Remote play of PS4
  • Access to PS1 games
  • When PS Now comes out, it'll have access to PS2 and PS3 games
  • Media streaming
  • $99, more for bundle with memory card and DS3. I'd want to use DS4.

Here is the list of games that are playable on the Vita TV, released in Japan.

There was a patch previously that lets you use the Ds4 as a controller

Cool. I wonder if that will help them port over more Vita titles, since it has a touchscreen.

Unless this can now output greater than 1080i, I'm going to stick with my Fire TV.

Nope, I think I heard it's 720p/1080i.

It's the game list that is my main problem. I'll be interested to see if the US/Europe game list is any better than the Japan one. I hope it is. I didn't see much on the Japan list that drew my attention.

I'd be interested in it at $50 for the PS4 streaming to another tv feature.

This was formerly known as Vita TV. It launched in Japan last year, and it fell flat. I don't know how well it will be received here.

It's launching in the US for $99 and Europe for 99 euro's, sometime in the fall. The Vita runs about $250, so it's a nice savings, if want to play Vita games on your TV but don't want to buy a Vita. It also enables you to play your PS4 in another room, without moving it.

Here are the main selling points:

  • Plays most Vita games on your TV
  • Plays most PSP games on your TV
  • Enables remote play of PS4
  • Access to PS1 games
  • When PS Now comes out, it'll have access to PS2 and PS3 games
  • Media streaming
  • Extends value of PSN
  • 99 US dollars

The main downside is that plenty of Vita games are not playable. That's because the Vita's touchscreen makes them incompatible. I was wondering whether the DS4 could be used with it (I believe it can), and whether that unit's touchscreen could somehow bridge the gap. I don't know.

Note that the list for Playstation TV may be different. We don't have the PS TV list yet, afaik. I hope it's different, because when I look at that list, there's nothing there that excites me. Granted, I don't know the Vita catalog, so there may be good games on the list that I just don't recognize.

There is also a $139 bundle that also includes a memory card, DS3 controller, and some game.

Auto-thread ban for anyone who talks about "TV TV TV moving goalposts hurrr." You have missed the point.

this is why I thought Sony did better than what many thought they did at E3 and how, from my viewing of it, resulted in them covering every angle here --> http://unionvgf.com/index.php?posts/192317/

unless you are extremely shortsighted, which I believe some are, or some games just aren't some peoples' cup of tea, Sony snuck in and dropped a bomb under the radar at their conference both with PlayStation Now and this PlayStation TV. but the thing is people were concentrating too much on NEW exclusives and pretty pictures at the conference, which Sony definitely has but refused to show at the meeting, to where it deluded alot of people from where the bomb was actually delivered, leading many to the conclusion that Sony only had 3 to 4 actual exclusives for people to play this year. I saw thousands, nothing the competition could produce in such a short timeframe.

but this is not where it ends. Sony announced a PUBLIC open beta, which basically tells me that it's FREE. but that's not even the kicker. they basically dropped the price of the PS4 to $100 when they announced PlayStation TV since this little device in an extension of everything PlayStation in addiction to movie apps. but there's more.... because we are dealing with digital and the cloud here, this service has moved into other devices too (certain TVs) at a significant price reduction. so now you are paying only for a controller, which is $60, to be granted access to all of this.

are you slowly seeing the bomb now?

the controller is the trojan and PlayStation Now is the plague. PlayStation TV is basically the army to finish it all off since you are practically locked into PlayStation around this time.

"Naturally real life streaming performance will be limited by internet speeds both upstream from your PS4 and downstream to your Playstation TV, but a Sony rep assured me that under ideal conditions the box is capable of delivering a full 1080p stream."

now as far as PlayStation Now, it's res is a bit lower yet still HD.

What is Playstation TV?

Playstation TV was announced a while back but it got brought back up at this year’s E3. It seems like a cool idea, but people still want to know what exactly Playstation TV is. So I have compiled a list of all the features you should expect from Playstation TV when it comes out this year.
  • First off let’s start with the fact that the Playstation TV allows you to stream your PS4 games to any other TV in the house. For Example: your PS4 is hooked up in your living room and you are playing a game there. If someone comes over and wants to watch TV instead of unhooking the PS4, if you have PS TV in another room, you can simply stream your game from your PS4 to your PS TV without having to hook up anything and from what we have seen, it should be a very easy and smooth transition.
  • Don’t have a Vita but want to play those few Vita games that catch your eye? No problem! With the PS TV you can simply download the Vita game you want or go buy a physical copy and insert the game into the dedicated Vita spot.
  • Playstation Now ready! This is great! As long as PS Now starts working properly. PS now is still in beta but it’s a great concept. Rent any PS game for the service and stream it directly to your PS Vita, PS4, PS3, and now the PS TV. So now technically you won’t even have to own a PS4 or PS3 to play the games that will be part of that service. Isn’t that cool?
  • APPS! That right its going to have all those great apps you want, like Netflix, Hulu, music unlimited (people use that right?) and more to come!
  • More games! the PS TV will also support the download of PSP games and PS one classics!

December 1, 2014 is the new release date at amazon.

Your basic Playstation TV lists at $99.99

  • Play Fun PlayStation Games Together: Hundreds of titles to download and play including PlayStation Vita games, classic games from PS One and PSP systems, and more.
  • Remote Play: Stream most of your PS4 games from your PS4 system to your PlayStation TV over local wi-fi.
  • Easy to Set up and Play: Plug in and play on almost any TV in your home.
  • PlayStation Now READY: Available later this year, PlayStation Now will give access to an expanding library of PS3 games to stream directly to PlayStation TV.
  • Movies, TV Shows, Music: Download, rent, or stream from PlayStation Store, Music Unlimited or other entertainment apps.

Interesting way to play games on the go, but I'm still not a fan of cloud gaming and its technical problems.

What would be the benefit of streaming your PS4 to another tv in the house as opposed to just moving your PS4 to that tv? Convenience?

If you could play co-op games with each player having their own screen. That would be useful.

Yeah, just easier than moving the console every time.

I believe it supports PS2 as well as those are in the store, too.

I wonder why they didn't mention them.

"including PlayStation Vita games, classic games from PS One and PSP systems, and more."

they're probably waiting for the launch, I think because the library is definitely there.

Wait.. let me get this right. You can bring the PlayStation TV thing (let's say) to a friends house and play your PS4 games through the internet?

Truly one of the selling points of the Vita and now PlayStation TV that Sony needs to drive home.

ah yeah?

its the Vita without a screen (perhaps slightly more). it uses wifi, LAN, and Blue Tooth. its crazy how some of you are just now wrapping your heads around this - the device as a whole.

It's not crazy, it's a reflection of how ass poor Sony is at promotion.
