Just curious about our group here: do you play mostly singleplayer or multiplayer games?

I tried to create responses that would capture nearly everyone. If you don't see your exact response here, just pick the one that fits closest for you.

Personally, I play almost entirely singleplayer games and only rarely will play multiplayer. That's because of the kind of gaming I prefer and also because of my schedule, which makes it hard to get together to play online games. I used to be in the "mostly SP and some MP" category, but I've drifted further away from online MP gaming over the years.

I used to be mostly single player but after Destiny, it's all I've been playing most of the time which is a combination of SP and MP, mostly MP because you can do activities with other friends.

When multiplayer was fresh and new, I was all in it. Now I feel like I'm playing the same games from the easrly 2000's. Also I don't have the time to devote to getting good enough to beat all these little kids.

I love my single player games.

Used to be singleplayer only since I didn't have XBOX Live. Once I got XBOX Live, I started playing multiplayer games and never looked back. That doesn't mean I won't get singleplayer games. I just rarely finish them unless they are gripping, like Portal 2.

Mostly love my single player games and only really play Battlefield MP.

co-op by far. I'm still waiting for an co-op rpg. Loved borderlands and red dead redemption.

I love single player games. But I do wish more games had co-operative multiplayer. I would love FFXV to have some multiplayer ability in it, but with them switching to having you use only Noctis, I don't think it will happen. I do like FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, but that kind of multiplayer is more asynchronous than real-time if you feel me.

Pretty much entirely single player. If I'm playing MP its almost always co-op like Destiny or defend modes like in Titanfall.

Almost always single player unless it is co op with friends. Rarely competitive because there are alot of douches.

This.

I game to relax and more often than not playing online makes me rage either because of douchebags on the mic, super-competitive over-achievers, or just the rig-a-ma-role of getting a match started. Co-op or racing/sports games with friends is the only exception. I have games like COD, B4, ME, TR, etc that I have never even touched the MP portion.

Depends on the game. For me:

SP
- Indie/arcade games (most of these don't even have MP modes)
- RPGs
- Racers

Half and half
- Sports (when I played EA NHL, did both SP and MP)

MP
- Shooters (which takes up as much time as all the above combined. I don't even play the SP mode in shooters anymore)

Mostly single player with co-op and online when I'm done with the story.

No interest at all in online only games.

I am usually single player person but will probably start doing more mp now i have destiny again though

This gen I seem to be playing a lot more SP, but I think that is just because there have been some really good games. I usually like to split about 50/50 between SP and MP.

Not sure. Bit of column a and b, but this is another one of those things I don't really keep track of. It depends on what I want to play on a given day or if I'm gaming with buddies because we usually end up playing MP games like Don't Starve Together, TF2, Alien Swarm, etc. Then I'll play some MP games on my own like Dino D-Day or Sanicball. Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare is a great series in it's own right as well for when I play MP games by myself. I play quite a few SP games for sure though. If I had to choose, 50/50 probably.

It's about half and half for me. I'll go weeks of playing just multiplayer sometimes though. I just don't always feel like getting into a long singleplayer game and unless i'm dedicated to playing a game i don't like to bother starting it.

Mostly singleplayer, but some multiplayer as well

I prefer single player 90% of the time but do occassionaly dip into multiplayer. I like games that seperate their single player story aspects from the multiplayer parts, a la DA:I or ME3

Well, it looks like we have an SP-skewed group. The majority say they play mostly or nearly all SP, whereas only 18% say it's mostly/nearly all MP. About 20% are straddling the fence.

I looked for other numbers out there -- numbers we could compare these to -- but didn't find any. Valliance said that MP is the most popular format, WW. That may be true, but I couldn't find anything to substantiate it. Granted, I didn't look all that hard. I don't see how you could get good, reliable SP numbers, though. Tracking MP hours is pretty straightforward, but how do you track SP hours, especially if you include handhelds and/or mobile games? Seems like it would be impossible to get good numbers.

You're going to have a hard time trying to determine what is more popular because # of titles and time spent playing SP or MP differ.

As a fake example, Call of Duty is one game title, yet given the sales and time spent by gamers playing online it's probably equivalent to 10 avg selling games. So even if those 10 were all SP focused, which side would win? SP or MP? There are more SP game titles, but one popular MP focused game is as big as all of them combined.

Yeah, that may be true, but it would be hard to demonstrate. I was commenting on the fact that there is no reliable way to track SP hours (over the whole gaming world, I mean, not just CoD).

Wouldn't it make sense to take a look at the NPD's over the past few years and see where the publishers are pouring money? Surely, publishers would know these things and allocate resources accordingly. I would wager that most games lean single player. Multiplayer only games are considered black sheep whereas people don't really bat an eye at single player only games.
