I've always wanted to, but it seems you have to be a lot more careful about where you go these days. Seems like a safer bet to just travel within the country honestly.
Seriously you guys, Do you guys really think Australia is this dangerous? I lived here all my life and nothing bad has happened to me! I think you guys are "overreacting."
FYI Peter Jackson is from New Zealand, which is a "neighbour" to Australia in the sense of it being separated by a mere 1000 miles of open ocean.
The native flora and fauna is pretty much the opposite of Australia. It's all non-deadly and very vulnerable and prone to extinction. There aren't even any snakes.
This is dangerous enough for me to stay away. When the Spiders are big enough to withstand a rolled up magazine you know it is not a place to live.

There are a lot of places that are safe you know, like most of Western Europe, or most first world nation like Australia, Japan, Korea or Singapore, New Zealand etc. Even China, is probably as safe, if not safer than USA, if you stick to the main cities. Probably the most unsafe part is the air travels, if you passed that, it should be fine.
No wonder they said 70% of Americans do not have a passport. Maybe its true. But maybe its a good thing, for once you start traveling to other places, it can become addictive, & you have to keep traveling on regular basis. The difference sights cultures, history. Just ask your fellow friends who have traveled outside USA.
I was being serious. I'm not that well versed in what's going on in the world at all times, but I know there's a lot of places out there who don't like Americans.
As long as you do not fall into the "Arrogant,loud mouth, & letting everyone know you America is the best and all" group, you should be fine, in the developed world at least.
I met many Americans in my travels, most are fine. The telltale sign (other than when they speak) is the love to use IPad to take photos.
If there is a chance, I will wanted to visit US of A soon also. Also took a short term deployment job in Detroit a few years ago, & then something happened & the work was cancelled.
