Developer Chinese Room (Dear Esther, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture) have closed their doors.

Can't say I'm too disappointed. I wasn't a fan of Rapture or Esther. Esther seemed pretentious to me, and Rapture made me realize how bored I was of the "walking sim" formula -- you know, walking around an environment where everyone is dead or gone. Enough already.

Chinese Room were bored of it too -- "We're done with doing walking sims," they said. But they couldn't get a publisher to sign on to their next project, which was going to be "something more complex, more involved and bigger scale." They were burning through $40,000 a month, with no money coming in.

There were other reasons, too. Long post-mortem here, if you're interested:

I may not have liked the game all that much, but I love the Rapture dynamic theme. I still use it on my PS4.

Amnesia: Collection (PS4)
Monster Jam Battlegrounds (PS3)
Hustle Kings (PS3)
Hue (PS Vita & PS4)
Sky Force Anniversary (PS Vita & PS4)

MGS V is a nice offering. I have considered that one. Heard lots of good things.

Amnesia is supposed to be pretty scary.

Crazy. I was going to buy MGS V last month and for whatever reason i held off. Glad i did. Great month.

I'll take MGS V. I've got all of the others (including SNES originals) that I plan on playing. Played through the first one and it was pretty good considering.

If you want the originals you want the two on the MSX2 that are included with MGS 3 Subsistence. Not the NES ones.

It's good till chapter 2 but quiet is such a pointless look at tits character.

She made the game embarrassing IMO, I never picked anyone but the dog as a sidekick anyway but when I saw her I thought god these guys are pervs lol.

Yeah she's just a terrible character and like JinCA I used the dog as my companion.

Shame the development was so troubled cause the first chapter is enjoyable but the rest of the game feels very unfinished.

Yeah the game as a whole is highly overrated IMO, 60 fps is fine but the world is lifeless and it's full of rinse and repeat locations and missions. Had it not been called MGS it probably would have been rated a 5 or 6 by most outlets.

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/10/03/ps4-system-software-update-5-00-out-now/

New update features improvements to tournaments, broadcasting, messages, family management and more.

Our next system software update for PlayStation 4, version 5.00 (codenamed NOBUNAGA), is available now! This update introduces features like the new “Family on PlayStation Network” system, an enhanced Twitch broadcast option on PlayStation 4 Pro, and a variety of new features for Notifications, Messages, and much more.

We’ve already outlined a number of key features before our beta program started, but we wanted to share some additional features that are coming to PS4 with this update.

Team Tournaments
Prepare to recruit the best players you know, because Team Tournaments on PS4 are almost here. With this new functionality, you’ll be able to compete against other teams for prizes and status.

Team Tournament functionality will kick off on October 5, shortly after the release of the 5.00 update. The initial batch of titles supporting Team Tournaments will be Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, World of Tanks and Mantis Burn Racing, with more on the way. Head over to the Events section on your PS4 to check out details for different Events and Tournaments, and to start creating your team.

You can join or own up to a maximum of 60 different teams, and each team will have an owner and captain(s) who can manage the team. Only teams will be able to register for official Team Tournaments. Your team will have its own customizable team page where you can see team member information, and view upcoming and ongoing events that your team is currently registered for and competing in. In addition, you can easily check out your team’s results in past tournaments with a new bracket viewer that shows full tournament standings for Single and Double Elimination tournaments directly on PS4. Communicating and coordinating with your teammates is also simple via the integrated team chat feature.

Follow Anyone

Before 5.00, you were only able to follow Verified Accounts, but now you can follow any user without having to be friends with them (subject to privacy settings). This allows you to follow content creators, game broadcasters, and other gamers in a community without having to dip into your friends list. And at the same time, this will allow these users to expand their reach and build more interest in what they’re doing. Your What’s New feed will be updated with the activities of the users you’re following, so you can easily keep up on what they’re up to. And under Friends, you’ll see a new Who to Follow section that will give you customized recommendations of who you can follow. The recommendations will be displayed in separate categories, such as Featured Verified Accounts, trending users, and suggestions based on games you’ve recently played.

Messages Update

We have one more feature to add to the list of updates coming to Messages on PS4. If you send a message that contains a link to a website, messages will now display a preview of the website, like headlines and thumbnails.

App Updates
Outside of PS4, some of our apps are getting updates today too:

PlayStation Communities
Following this update, you can switch the app into landscape mode when you flip your phone sideways, so you get a wider view of the app and it makes it easier to scroll through. In addition, you’re now able to view and post animated GIFs on community walls. We’re also adding the following languages to the app: Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Romanian, Thai and Vietnamese.

PlayStation Messages

Stickers for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Horizon Zero Dawn are being added. And similar to the PS4’s Messages update, the PlayStation Messages app will also be updated to display previews of a website if you’ve received a link. Support for Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Romanian, Thai and Vietnamese are being added to the app.

We’re excited for you to test out these features for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments. We’re listening and always appreciate your feedback!

Family on PSN
We’re overhauling the current master/sub-account system, and introducing the new “Family on PlayStation Network.” This new system will offer a more flexible experience for families on PS4 by making it easier to setup PSN accounts for children and customize parental control settings. Below are the new features that will be introduced with family on PSN:

Family Manager, Parent/Guardian
Family on PSN will allow multiple adults to be part of a single family. The Family Manager can promote another adult inside the family to a Parent/Guardian, who can then customize parental control levels of children’s accounts.

Individualized Parental Controls
Before this update, the same parental controls were applied to all users on the same console, including adults. But with 5.00, all controls (including game age ratings) can be individually attuned for each child.

Friend List Management
In place of the current ‘Favorite Groups’ tab, we’re adding a new ‘Custom Lists’ tab within Friends, which allows you to create and edit custom lists of your friends. This makes it easier for you to manage your friends and access specific groups. For example, you can create a custom list of your Destiny teammates and easily send them raid invites.

Broadcast feature updates
Communities
If you own a community, you can now bind your community to your broadcast. When a broadcast is linked to a community, the community button appears on the Live from PlayStation spectator screen. Once a spectator clicks on the community button, they’ll be able to jump directly to your community page to check out the details.

PlayStation VR
We’ve added a new setting in PlayStation VR: Display Message to Spectators and Spectators’ Comments. Once this is enabled, spectator comments sent during a broadcast is displayed not only in cinematic mode, but also in VR mode. This makes it much easier for VR broadcasters to keep up on comments and communicate with their viewers.

PlayStation 4 Pro
Good news Twitch users: with this update, PS4 Pro will support 1080p 60fps streaming on Twitch.

Messages Improvements
You’ve already been able to share your favorite music to Twitter and Facebook via PlayStation Music, but now you’ll also be able to share via messages using your PS4. If your friends are on PS4, they can listen to the track right inside the message by booting up Quick Menu, and if they’re on their mobile device, they can jump directly to the Spotify app from the PS Messages app to check out the song.

In addition, if you’re part of multiple message groups, you can now easily leave several groups at once. Just open up Options in the message list, select Leave, and choose the message groups you want to leave.

Notifications Updates
We’ve added a new setting that allows you to disable pop-up notifications while you’re watching a movie or TV show on your PS4. This setting is off by default, so go to Settings > Notifications to disable notifications and go uninterrupted during your videos.

Furthermore, you now have the option to turn off message previews on your pop-up notifications. If you turn this setting off, the pop-up notification will hide the message senders’ online ID and will display a generic user icon and message instead.

Lastly, you’ll have the option to change the color of your pop-up notifications to either white (default) or black.

Quick Menu Updates
If you want to keep an eye out on what’s happening under Notifications, like the progress of your game downloads/installations or new party invites, you can now access this directly from the Quick Menu so you don’t have to step away from your game every time you want to check your notifications.

Also, we’ve added a ‘Leave Party’ option in the Quick Menu, so you can easily exit a party and go right back to playing your game.

In addition, now you’ll see the system clock in the upper-right corner of the screen when you pop open the Quick Menu.

Virtual Surround Sound on PS VR
PlayStation VR now supports 5.1ch and 7.1ch virtual surround sound on your headphones when watching Blu-rays and DVDs in Cinematic Mode, making for an even more immersive viewing experience

Improved Tournaments Bracket Viewer
We have a new bracket viewer that shows full tournament brackets for Single Elimination and Double Elimination tournaments on PS4. This makes it easier for you to see the current tournament standings.

New System Language Additions
With this update, we’re adding the following system language options on PS4: Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Romanian, Thai and Vietnamese.

Not gonna update for a few days to see how many issues arise for people. The only thing of interest for me is being able to check downloads from the quick menu.

Extinction, coming early 2018. Action RPG, heavy on the combat.

Can't say the Art direction is doing anything for me. I wonder who makes the big brute's armor.... I can't help but feel "Giant Generic Orc" is just kinda lazy. Not very interesting to look at, imo.

Yeah, I wasn't too impressed, either.

So I'm not the only one that wants to play a game like that??

The PS4/Pro web browser is the worst I've ever experienced on console. My God.

Constant virtual memory crashes, the ui bogs down like hell when going from browser to application or games. I mean like literally stops for minutes.
