Official Thread PS General Discussion

A recent Rime developer tweeted that he was proud of his team for finishing "crunch," which led people to believe we might get a release date soon. It's also possible that he didn't mean "final crunch," but just some mid-point crunch. English isn't his first language, so he might not understand the intricacies too well. No clarification at this point. Would be nice to hear something at Gamescom.

This thread needs more activity. So i'm bleeding blue again. Told the Xboys the other day another heel turn was coming. Going to start Batman: AK tomorrow on the PS4. Can't waiiit.

I want Until Dawn. Screw those weak indie games. Except for Rime and The Last Guardian. Because I want those.

Glad you liked Unfinished Swan. Under-appreciated game. Keep an eye out for their next project, What Became of Edith Finch. They've got a three-game exclusivity deal with Sony, I believe.

Sony Wants You to Pick Your Next PS4 PlayStation Plus Freebie

Disappointed with this month's PlayStation Plus selection? It sounds like Sony will be giving you the choice to select your freebies moving forwards. A trailer on the 'What's New' section of the PlayStation 4 confirms that a new feature is on the way, allowing you to vote for which title you want to be given away for free. Judging by the clip, you'll have three titles to pick from each month, and the one that gets the most votes will be added to the Instant Game Collection.

You've got problems, bruh.

Okay, stupid question time. Is Limbo really as good as people say?

I got bored halfway through. Lots of people praise it, though. I found it got repetitive after a while. For such a short game, that's not great. I'm not a big fan of 2-D side-scrolling platformers, though, so take that into account. It had a nice aesthetic, that's for sure.

Yeah but.... that first time you see a little boy's head punctured by a giant Spider....

PS4 Getting Acclaimed Stealth Game République Next Year
All five episodes coming in one package to the PlayStation Store.

The complete version of episodic game République will be released on PlayStation 4 in early 2016 in both North America and Europe, publish GungHo Entertainment announced today.

République is a stealth game in which you assist a young woman named Hope to escape from a totalitarian state. You help to guide her around from the perspective of surveillance cameras, interacting with the environment in various ways to keep her out of danger. GungHo says in this version "players finally take full control of Hope," suggesting you'll have more of a direct effect on things when playing on PS4.

Republique on PC
Republique is developed by Camouflaj, a studio headed up by Metal Gear Solid 4 producer Ryan Payton. It began as a Kickstarter game back in 2012 and was originally slated to only release on mobile platforms. When it looked as if that wouldn't attract enough money to reach its goal, Camouflaj decided to also bring it to PC, helping the crowdfunding campaign to ultimately raise $555,000.

"Having been so inspired by early PlayStation titles, it's with much joy and a touch of irony that the full République experience will arrive on PS4," Payton said of today's announcement. "I can't thank GungHo enough for supporting our efforts to faithfully translate République into a true console experience."

The first three episodes of Republique have already been released on PC and mobile, with two more episodes still to come. When it launches on PS4--where it'll be available on the PlayStation Store--the game will consist of all five episodes. A price was not announced, but the existing PC version goes for $25.

SONY ANNOUNCES TIME AND DATE OF ITS PARIS GAMES WEEK CONFERENCE

"Sony has confirmed its PlayStation conference at this year's Paris Games Week will take place on October 27 at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm GMT.

"This is the first year the company has decided to hold a press conference at the show, after it opted not to have a presence at Gamescom due to the German event's proximity to E3 this year.

"We're delighted to announce that we will be hosting an international media briefing at Paris Games Week," it said at the time. "With the changes this year of E3 taking place a week later and Gamescom taking place earlier, we feel that both PlayStation and the wider industry would benefit from a major news milestone later in the year, during the most important period for gaming."

"Sony seems to be finalising its game plan for the rest of the year, with PlayStation Experience dates also announced towards the end of last week. It's set to take place in San Francisco on December 5-6.

Also, 'insider' Tidux hinted that Quantic Dream's new game will be shown at the Paris Games Week:

In case Until Dawn wasn't enough horror for you, it appears Frictional Games' SOMA is close to being finished:

Next week will be the last one before the games goes into Content Lock. After this, no new non-trivial content can be added to the game. Instead, all efforts will solely focus on bug fixing, tweaking details and low-level optimization. Having this kind of lock is vital as things that might seem really simple additions could have ramifications that cause all sort of unforeseen consequences. In the final weeks leading up to release, you want to make sure that you only fix issues and not cause new ones.

Because of this, work has been extra gruelling the last few weeks as everyone wants to add their final stuff before we reach the point when this is impossible. Things are looking really good though, and we should basically have every single bit of content in the game by now. This means that next week will act more as a buffer zone in case something unexpected shows up, instead of a frantic race against time.

Here's a guy who intentionally f*cks up the QTEs in Heavy Rain. He's a bit over the top with the laughing, but that's part of what makes it funny.

It would be interesting to see how much of the game you could play like this, intentionally failing QTEs. Maybe you could turn Heavy Rain into a comedy.

PS4 games that will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show:

  • Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir
  • Star Wars: Battlefront
  • Street Fighter V
  • Arlan: The Warriors of Legend
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2016
  • Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness
  • Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III
  • Destiny: The Taken King
  • Tearaway Unfolded
  • The Tomorrow Children
  • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection
  • Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4
  • God Eater: Resurrection
