PS4 update 2.0, 10/28

I read online for those with rest mode issues that if you go into settings for rest mode and change USB charging to Always that it fixes it. I'll find out in a bit and if not I'll try rebuilding the database.
Does not fix anything for me. I've tried all the so-called fixes and none of them work. I simply cannot use rest mode anymore if I want my console to power back on.

I had the same problem with rest mode yesterday. I had put it in rest mode the night before, because I was downloading some game. The next morning, I couldn't turn on the console. The controller wouldn't power it up. I couldn't figure out what else to do, so I just unplugged it, then plugged it back in. The controller still wouldn't power up the console, which had me worried momentarily. I manually turned the console on, and it responded. It did an internal check, which came out ok, but it gave me a warning about possible damage to the console if I unplugged it the way I had.

The controller and console works fine now, but it did worry me for a second. Like Jester and Joon, I'm going to avoid using rest mode for the time being. I was reading at GAF, and apparently it's a common glitch.

"Sony has admitted that its recent 2.0 PS4 firmware update has left users experiencing frequent network errors and issues.

"Among the issues are:

  • Consoles not turning on once in Sleep mode
  • Music player functionality broken
  • PSN not connecting
  • No themes available to UK users
"The reports started emerging just after the update went live on Tuesday.

"Now Sony has admitted it will be looking into the problems."

Going to wait until they iron everything out before I touch this update.

My issues seems to be different than everyone else. Mine gets stuck going into rest mode and just flashes yellow. It sat for like an hour doing that before I realized the fan was still running on the damn thing. Either way the power settings helped me at least once so far.

Mine goes into rest mode, but then does then starts the flashing thing like 30min-1 hour later. Only way to turn it on after is to pull the plug and boot at the console. Obviously, I am no longer using rest mode lest it turns into a dirt nap.

Mine has the rest mode issue as well, I tried doing the safe mode and rebuilding the data base thing but that only worked once. I hope they get it fixed before GTA and Dragon Age come out, I have them pre ordered digitally and I don't want to leave the console fully powered on while they pre load.

I am glad I haven't updated yet. I'm keeping my PS4 off until a new patch is released. And then I'll abuse that music player to death. I just wish there were USB ports in the back.

I haven't had any problem since I stopped using rest mode, I'm still salty as hell about the whole thing though.

Got the update last night and everything is working great. Another solid update for the PS4.

Not really. I wish they'd fix this thing. Yesterday it crapped out again when I was charging a controller, because it automatically shifted to rest mode after 4 hrs (I didn't realize I had it set that way). And then today, for no apparent reason, it gave me another error message and suggested I download the latest update, which I already had. Annoying.

I have the update but haven't used rest mode. I'll be leaving my ps4 off for the moment and won't be using that mode until it's fixed. I wanted to get Lords of the fallen and far cry on my ps4 so this crap better be fixed quickly

The 2.01 fix is available now.

I'm still having problems, even though I've installed the 2.01 fix. When I'm booting it up, and I press the PS button on my controller, my console will briefly light up blue for a couple seconds, but then shut down. I'll have to manually turn the console on and then turn on the controller. I'll get a non-specific error message and it'll do a system check.

It doesn't happen every time, but roughly every other time. This isn't associated with going into rest mode, btw; I'm shutting down completely. Any suggestions are welcome.

Try doing a clean reinstall with the firmware on a USB key.

Backup all your data first and make sure the USB key actually works.

I'm not a tech savvy guy, so I don't know what that means.

Thanks anyhow.

It's good to hear Sony took care of their customers with the 2.01 fix. I didn't have any issues to begin with but that's a quick response and nice to see. Then again, like i said i don't use rest mode and that seems to be what the problem was for most.

Sucks to not be me. I am still on update 1.73 I believe. Its crazy the fix didn't fix it.

correction it still farks up after the 2.01 i went to turn on the PS4 from controller and it was on but the blue light on the top glowed on and off and no picture I had to unplug and turn it back on but was fine after that

A hopeful sign for those of us who're still having some issues with the update:

This morning while I was getting ready I noticed my PS4 started up on its own from rest mode. It turn all the way on but I heard the disc drive spin and the yellow light flash for a few seconds. Not sure what it did and I didn't have time to turn it on to take a look. Either way weird as hell considering I just watched The Conjuring last night.

Might 've been the 2.02 update. Mine was off this morning but I had it on rest mode last night. Turns out it downloaded the update.

Yea that is possible. I don't remember if the notifications and what not are time stamped so I will take a look to see if it matches up.

There's a new update, 2.03, out now. I was still having periodic problems, so hopefully this will take care of those.
