PS5 Pro - 2024?

There is rumour of a new Astrobot game coming this year so I totally see them bundling it with the Pro for late fall 2024.

As to see what game would benefit , perhaps we would see the introduction of Concord their brand new FPS?

Also they could market the Pro with GTA 6 promotional info , I bet that would sell a bunch. They just have to say , play the best console version of GTA 6 coming out in 2025 on the PS5 Pro.
What if it’s just an update of the current one? Cos there’s not going to be much new to really showcase besides visual and maybe cpu stuff….like “hey, 64 astrobots on screen at once, all of them are raytraced”. Astrobots are the new ducks demo.

Hmmm, maybe, is it supposed to be out this year or early next year?

That could work, but they’d probably need more time, to take advantage of the power. Like if it is, then I’d probably guess and say the pro update would be released around the same time or later of the pc version release.

It basically is.

Imagine a Pro model that can run current Ps5 games at enhanced resolutions, fidelity and introducing 60/120fps modes with an AI upscaling to 4k output.

I know graphically intensive games like AW2, FF16 etc. would benefit a lot from this. A lot of complaints these days is that performance mode for newer games are becoming more and more lower native res compared to fidelity. So this Pro model would fix that. Also the rumours are that it would be an easy process to boost current PS5 games for the PS but we won't know how that actually translates until the model has come out.

Kinda a given as that’s where there focus has turned to. Wonder if it’ll be like a separate chip or in with the gpu or cpu? Ms has a head start, both physical anf software wise with ai, investment and partnerships/purchased small devs for it too.

But ai is something devs have knowledge of too, be it their own software or off the shelf dev software like photoshop.

Checkerboard v2.0?

It's been rumoured for a long time they are doing their own AI upscaling methods. Wonder how it stacks up to fsr3.
Yeah, doesn't sound like this is it though, at least not from what I've been reading from other people.

The CPU would have been the most important upgrade for me. But I will still buy it. If it's even happening.

My guess it’ll be like that in the next gen as well.

Hopefully it’s quieter. Mines like a foot or two away from me when at my desk.
Mine only makes noise when I forget to leave the door open on my TV cabinet 😳

What’s their incentive to make this thing so powerful? It will just drive margins down and push out the need for a PS6 even further.

It has to be significantly more powerful otherwise what's the point. Also the rate processing power tech is accelerating, at least GPU wise, it's kind of inevitable power will increase at an exponential rate.

The lead platform will still be PS5 core. This is a bigger jump than PS4 to PS4 Pro, which never really was pushed to its full potential.

That's honestly why I still have doubts this is going to be a thing. A small upgrade to the PS5 isn't worth it (and PS5 is fine IMHO), and a huge upgrade is going to cost a ton and for what? Some higher FPS and 8k which hardly anyone has?

I'd buy a powerful one just because I'm that Clarkson type, but who needs it really? PS4 and X1 were underpowered, which is why they needed a mid gen refresh. I don't think PS5 (or XSX) has that issue really. We don't need a bridge to get us to next gen.

I think it's needed simply based on how low resolutions are right now with UE5 games, especially if this has a better "upscaling solution" without things looking as blurry as they do in some games now, it will also make higher framerates more stable. Not only that but up to 4 times the RT performance. I still don't know why they refuse to add extra memory to these things, that was a big deal in the One X. We'll see, it's not meant to replace the PS5 anyway just an option for people who want something more.

Yeah and pretty sure we will just have better upscaling with AI, higher visuals settings and more resolution. Which I'm fine with . Anything to get closer to 4k/60 fps.

Insider Gaming can confirm that the leaked PS5 Pro specs leaked earlier today are real and the PlayStation 5 is still tentatively targeting a 2024 holiday release.

Speaking with sources, who wished to remain anonymous because they were not authorized to talk about company plans, we can confirm that the leaked documentation from the YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead is real, despite the criticism of the leaker and the leaked specs. Insider Gaming can confirm that the documentation leaked is from a PlayStation developer portal, which was sent out this week to a wider band of third-party developers.

In early 2023, I reported via Key to Gaming that the PS5 Pro is under the codename ‘Trinity’ and will be targeting improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution, a new ‘performance mode’ for 8K resolution, and accelerated ray tracing. In addition, it was reported that Trinity will have 30 WGP and 18000mts memory.

Today’s leaked documents also confirmed:

  • Rendering 45% faster than PS5
  • 2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases)
  • 33.5 Teraflops
  • PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) upscaling/antialiasing solution
  • Support for resolutions up to 8K is planned for future SDK version
  • Custom machine learning architecture
  • AI Accelerator, supporting 300 TOPS of 8 bit computation / 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point
Insider Gaming, who was also shared documentation from the developer portal under the condition that it’s not shared publically or privately can also confirm that Devkits have been available to first-party studios since September 2023, third-party since January 2024, and from Spring 2024 Testkits will also be available which will be identical to the final product.

Insider Gaming understands that the PS5 Pro is currently aiming for a tentative holiday 2024 release, but the date could be changed due to the lack of first-party games released on the PlayStation 5 this year.

This shouldn't be delayed due to a lack of 1st party games, this isn't a new generation machine it's a refresh, what they should do is have improvements ready for existing 1st party games. If GTA6 is still supposed to come out before the end of the first quarter of 2025 getting this out early and having it be known that this would be the best place to play GTA6 at launch would be better than having a first party title to launch alongside it anyway.
