PSX 2017

Highlights for me were the support for SP games, VR Wipeout, free VR TLG demo, and hearing God of War is about 30 hours long. Glad I didn't stay up to watch the second half, from the sound of it. I avoided watching the Detroit demo as I feel I've seen a lot of the game already and don't need more spoiled.

There are some good panels today. Maybe we'll get something interesting out of them.

Maybe we will get some Ghost gameplay today.

Maybe we will get some Ghost gameplay today.

I think the chance of that is very low. They just announced it. I don't think they're ready to show gameplay yet. I'd love to see it, but I just don't think it's at all likely. Probably just a lot of talk and some concept art.

Strange show from Sony but I think they are victims of their own successes. They had some of the strongest and most surprising conferences from 2015 to 2016 and between multiple shows announced a ton of games. This meant their announcements in 2017 has been slight and lacking that punch. It has to be stated Sony has so many games announced they don't need to announce any more till 2019 but I feel they have shown some far too early. Dreams, Death Stranding, TLOU PT 2 and Spider-man could have all been held back till 2017 to announce. The lack of footage from games coming out in mere months like God Of War and Spider-man is puzzling to me. Just a really weird way of handling the presentation side of things.

Easy. At E3 2016 they announced 85% of the PS4s remaining lineup (indies and remakes not withstanding)

Post PGW its 90%

You only need to look at the length of development of their 1st party games (5,6,7,8 years in some cases) and look at how old this gen is and has got to go (3 years 10 months at most) to know that you won't see sequels to god of war, gran turismo, guns of Hiroshima, dreams,

It took them 4 years to make Knack 2.

And these are all 1080p standard. The now is 4k, the soon is 8k.

If we don't see Horizon ZD 2 at E3...they're saving it for PS5.

I think the highlight for Sony overall is that their main competitor has what looks to be all B level games at best launching next year and Sony has a ton of AAA stuff coming out. MS gives us the option for the best hardware but I think it'd be hard to argue against Sony being the one with the best software lineup next year and by a wide margin. Then they have for 2019 TLOU2, likely Ghosts of Tsushima, Death Stranding and I'm sure more so we have at least 2 very good years for Sony exclusive games coming up. The only thing they could do to make it better would be to announce another upgrade option for PS4 that's at least as good as the One X if not better.

2018
God of War
Detroit
Days Gone, Yoshida confirmed 2018
SOTC remake
Spider-Man
and several nice looking smaller titles.

VS
State of Decay 2
Crackdown 3
Sea of Thieves
and some smaller titles.

I don't think that's even close as far as the level of quality when it comes to games, especially if you are someone who likes single player games like I do. One of MS's games is basically a games as a service game and from what they've said that'll be a big focus in the future.

I don't care that they didn't have big announcements but that doesn't mean they had to talk about having lunch with Kojima for 30 minutes.

I'll agree the Kojima show is annoying as hell, especially when you combine it with the game awards presentation he seems to get every year. That being said I can understand why they'd bring him out simply because of what is likely a significant financial investment they've made in whatever the hell that game is lol.

Blood and Truth! Sucks so many people are watching this demo without knowing how VR feels. When you're firing a weapon, looking down the scope/sights, the level of precision and depth is unparalleled.

LOL whilst you are right it was at E3 2015, PGW 2015, TGS 2015 PSX 2015, E3 2016 and PSX 2016 where they announced the bulk of their major announcements.

Also it didn't take 4 years to make Knack 2; Japan Studio works on many other games at the same time. They were working on TLG, GR2 and probably other unannounced stuff whilst making it. Yeah Horizon 2 will be a PS5 game.

Dreams is blowing My mind.... So much f***ing depth! They Even made a Modular synthesizer... Sick!

Isn't Halo 6 going to drop in 2018? That's still a massive title.

Hasn't been officially announced or shown yet so that's speculation, I'm going by what is actually announced. Even if it does it still doesn't make up the lack of other big games, there will likely be ANOTHER Forza Horizon too but that's basically like Sony having an MLB game every year which nobody ever counts lol. Sony has a stacked year and a pretty nice variety in titles, MS has so far at least games that were announced before even some of the Sony games that so many complain about having to wait for and none of them look like they'll be showcases for the One X either which is a bit of a shame.

While other people are whining about lack of announcements, I'm actually struggling to keep up with all the new announcements. Having PSVR makes a big difference. It doubles (or more than doubles) the amount of games you have to deal with.

It's difficult to say right now with MS vs Sony, we haven't even crossed the 2018 mark yet. So many things could be announced/delayed. It's clear sony has an edge like always, but one thing is 100%, they don't have the multiplatform edge anymore, if anything, MS has the biggest edge in that department I've seen in a decade. Massive. It's way more than just a simple reverse of roles.

I had my eye on Vane earlier, because of its marvelous trailer, but this really put me off. Way too dark; it's all grey, black, silver. I can't see sh*t half the time. I also feel like this setup -- little kid silently explores a mysterious world -- is over-done.

Obviously an indie and it looks good to me. I would drop $20 on that. I'm still needing to finish Oure too yet.

I agree. Kojima has reached this weird status because of the Konami debacle were people seem to think he s***s gold. It's that weird group think that seems to permeate most things in media.

People felt that way before Konami got rid of him. That is why people cared about that in the first place.

Kojima is unique in his filmic approach and weirdness. From a gameplay perspective, I've always found his games a bit lacking. Don't get me wrong, I like him, but he got a big bump from his Konami fallout. I will reserve judgement for the game's release, and I certainly like what I'm seeing from the trailers. I don't idolize anyone anymore...

I've never been able to enjoy a Kojima game. I'm hoping Death Stranding will be the first, but so far all I've seen is weirdness for the sake of weirdness -- or at least, that's how it appears. Spectacle and pretty visuals. I'm wondering what the themes of the game are, who the characters are, what their struggles are. Cerny said recently (joking?) that after 4 or 5 hours, it makes sense. I'm not sure I have the patience for it. I've always found artists who are intentionally obscure to be pretentious. It's like they use obscurity as a substitute for depth. And plenty of people seemingly mistake the former for the latter.

I agree with you on all counts. But if we look at his average game rating on metacritic, I "think" it's pretty high up there. I haven't averaged it myself, but his games are pretty popular, and are single player focused. I remember the size of MGS4 which was a huge game with tons of assets, music scores, language packs. It seems like a huge investment.

Now personally, I haven't enjoyed his games and I have owned 3 of them. However, I think I am interested in this one because I like the guy from Walking Dead, Norman Reedus. Though it does look very confusing.

Absolutely. I think he makes quality games. My inability to enjoy them has more to do with my personal tastes. I generally don't like stealth games. I was 15 years into gaming before I enjoyed stealth gameplay (I think it was Skyrim, as a stealth archer). One of the reasons I hope Death Stranding might be the first Kojima game I enjoy is that I'm thinking he'll break away from the stealth-oriented gameplay. Of course, it's hard to know wtf the gameplay will be like.

I used to like some stealth games. Splinter Cell for example. But many times I still took the more aggressive route through the game. When Splinter Cell Conviction came out and introduced more gun play, I didn't complain. Now I just don't have time for stealth games like I used to. And based on what we have seen so far, it seems like Death Stranding could be a step away from his stealth games. I would embrace it, that is for sure.

Stealth is my personally preferred approach, but I always thought Splinter Cell did it better. Kojima always gets into covoluted quasi-philoshphy. It doesn't really make much sense, but it sounds deep.

Apparently 20XX was announced to be coming to the PS4 in 2018.

I tweeted some of the xbox guys earlier in the year about bringing this to the XB1 and never heard any thing back. Maybe a Playstation deal was already in place.
