I don't trust any date these days, so I'm still going with 2018...

Console parity. It will look/run the same as the Pro version.

Doubt it. Scorpio will push it to the limit.

PS4 had a good run but back to the OG Xbox/360 days we go. Xbox is the best place to play third party games.

There is no console parity now. Multiplatform games look best on PS Pro, which look better than PS4, which looks better than Xbox One. If there was parity, the PS Pro would be held back to maintain the exact same performance as the Xbox One version. That hasn't happened once this gen, and it won't happen with Scorpio either.

I think the Pro and Scorpio will still be held back to a certain extent having to play games that work on the old hardware.

Well yeah that would be typical. I mean, if an Xbox One say could only handle 100 AI on a screen, and the Scorpio could handle 1000 AI on a screen, I doubt they would actually have 1000 AI on the Scorpio screen. It would have 100.

But developers will do:

Xbox One 720p-1080p
PS4 900p-1080p
PS Pro 1080p-4K Checkerboard
Scorpio 1080p-4K Native

I picture that as the most common scenario for games.

When you're the market leader you get the best third party support by default. PS4 is market leader so Xbox One gets ports of PS4 games. 360 was market leader so PS3 got ports of 360 games. It could go either way. Will devs really see a reason to fully support Scorpio when there is more money to be made on the PS4? Who knows.

Yeah, that and maybe some of the vegetation could be scaled back, the Pro and Scorpio could get some extras like character hair movement and possibly some improved water effects, but other than that, I think the things you mentioned seem reasonable.

When you look at an open world last gen+ game like GTA5, and what that looks like on One and PS4 at 1080p, I think it's pretty reasonable to do even more at a lower res, when needed. I just don't see a reason why much needs to actually be scrapped because it won't work on lesser systems. Just scaling some things back would seem to fit most cases, imo.

Having a single developer environment for PC/One/Scorpio will entice a lot of developers to make Windows 10 the lead platform. It's very telling that there is no PC version of this game mentioned.

That's not how it works actually. When a developer decides they will make their games on multiple platforms and release all versions at the same time, they will pick the most efficient and cost effective way to get the best results on all the machines. It's not like the consumer usually knows which was the lead platform. Scorpio gamers will likely be getting the same thing as the PC version...scaled according to which settings the Scorpio can handle.

Actually, lead platform is irrelevant. Last gen was different because because of big hardware differences. This gen it matters little which is lead platform.

And this 'support' you are seeing is nothing more than money changing hands and the inherant advantage the platform has. Same as it was, for the most part, last gen.

If you say so. The reason why Sony has so many marketing deals this gen like Microsoft had last gen is because PS4 is the lead platform. You really think Microsoft didn't try and lock up content and just let Sony have it all?

It's all about perception at the end of the day. So i can see why someone would think there would be parity based off the fact that PS4 is leading. It shouldn't work that way, but a lot of times it does. No reason why Scorpio shouldn't have much better versions of games.

No, it is because they pay for it, and they pay for it because it doesn't benifit 3rd party to do this exclusive stuff.

That made sense last gen because architectures were so different. Now, they can make the "best" version (PC), then scale and tweak settings for console because they are so very similar.

Obviously, first party will get the edge on getting the most out of a system as they get more specific, but parity on third party games makes no sense. This is because they'd have to deliberately keep settings the same (in this case, not check the effects box) though the work would still have to be the same.

Before, they'd be starting from a much lower point where now, engines being what they are- they start from a point higher than the consoles can achieve.

Yep, there is always money involved in these deals either through direct payments or agreeing to pay for a large share of the marketing etc.

This is probably MW's fault...

Red Dead Redemption PC Mod For GTA 5 Goes Down In Legal Flames

Alas, a project to bring Red Dead Redemption to the PC using Grand Theft Auto 5 has come to a sad, yet predictable end. It appears developer Rockstar and publisher Take-Two didn't take the work of modding group White Team too seriously... that is, until it released a trailer. Shortly after the drop, the video disappeared from YouTube, followed by confirmation from White Team that it had been, er, contacted by Take-Two.

When the clip went missing, users posting in the mod's announcement thread on GTA Forums speculated — correctly — that Take-Two had made a move on the project. White Team representative and lead programmer, Mr. Leisurewear, soon corroborated the rumours:

I know this is hard pill to swallow, but as you may have noticed we did get contacted, and we sadly have to say we are stopping this project. So thanks guys, we were all so happy to see this, but it isn't going to happen, sorry.

It's revealed a few comments later that the mod had been "3 years" in the making. While it's unfortunate the project has been shut down, one has to ask how wise it was to pour so much time into the endeavour without getting some assurances from Take-Two or Rockstar first.
