Replacement PSU

Wait why would you need to pay for a replacement? It should be under warranty right? Also MS might ship you the new one, then you return the crap one in the same box. No down time with the system.

Yup, unless you imported gray market or something, you should be able to get MS to send you a new one at no charge.

Already talked to them I'd have to pay for the shipping to Microsoft wait for them to repair and send me one which pay for shipping again. Also said about two weeks. They don't do advanced replacement for just PSU.

Think the link I posted would be alright. Seems about the same

Tell them your disc drive just stopped working.

But really, the one on eBay is probably fine. If it ends up being a dud though, then you just make sure you keep the old one around and at that point send it to MS.

Lol I thought of that as well. Apparently they don't send a power brick when they give you a new one. I tried that and they told me to not send the power brick back the replacement is just purely the console. I'm sorta worried about the one off eBay if it would be any difference in standby? Do all power supply's have a fan in it and regulate themselves?

Can you not take it back to where you bought it for immediate replacement?

I don't think they do individual replacement parts. Also I didn't spend the 60 or whatever for that. Nothing wrong with the actual console just the PSU

Also I noticed with the noise coming from it that it changes when squeezing in certain spots or switching position. Never goes away though

Yup, I spend 45 mins chatting and 1 hour and a half on the phone with the support people and they couldn't get the advanced replacement through just for the power supply unit (PSU). The customer service people were very friendly and they kept trying to do it but the system is not setup for just replacing the PSU.

I think I might have found a "ripple" in their system though. You can buy a PSU from Microsoft for 35 bucks. I'm going to order order one then "return" it.

Did not know they sold those. Just to be clear returning the broken one in huge new ones packaging or just filing the old one in for repair?

Do you have to order one from Microsoft over the phone? Can't find it on their website

On a semi-related note is a little noise coming from the console normal. Sorta sounds like a hard drive working so I assume it is but just checking

You said a little noise so I assume it's normal. Mine makes a little noise too. When I say little I mean I can't really hear it unless I walk up to the console.

Looks like the PS4 wins in the noise category. Being louder means it drowns out the questionable sounds.

If the room is completely silent I can hear it form like 5 ft away. Sounds like a hard drive working/clicking

Yeah I'm siting closer to 10ft back and my refrigerator is not far from where I game and that lets off a little bit of noise. So I don't notice anything.

My power brick makes coil whine sounds, usually coil whine is safe, so I don't care.
