American actor and director Philip Seymour Hoffman has died. He was 46.

The Academy Award winner was found in his Manhattan apartment at 35 Bethune St. in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan this morning morning, according to the New York Police Department, which is investigating.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Hoffman won the Best Actor Academy Award and the Golden Globe Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture -- Drama for his leading role in the 2005 film "Capote."

He was nominated for three Best Supporting Actor Oscars, for "The Master," "Doubt," and "Charlie Wilson's War."

Did he have a drug habit? I had not heard that. Wow pretty shocking ... came out of left field

Sad news for sure, he was young. My favourite role of his was Boogie Nights. Him sitting in his Nissan after midnight 1980 cursing himself for being a stupid idiot for trying to kiss Dirk Diggler was probably my favourite part of the movie.

You know a man was a great actor when he could make Along Came Polly worth watching

Wow, talk about unexpected. Guy was an amazing actor. Wouldn't be surprised if his death was caused by mixing meidcation with alcohol. That's killed quite a few people.

A lesson I learned the hard way. Playing Indigo Prophecy.

He's had issues for sure. He went into rehab last year when he began snorting heroin and they say they found him with a needle in his arm. Sad. Really enjoyed his work and thought he was conquering his addictions.

“It was anything I could get my hands on,” Hoffman told “60 Minutes” in 2006. “I liked it all.”

:(

Couldn't believe this when I read it this morning. Such a tragedy. Leaving behind a long-time girlfriend and three little children as well.

Great actor. Too many good movies to name, but I'll always remember him in Twister.

RIP Philip.

As if addiction isn't bad enough....

Lethal batches of ‘bad heroin’ hit East Coast the same week Philip Seymour Hoffman died

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/02/...st-the-same-week-philip-seymour-hoffman-died/

For the past three weeks, authorities have been tracking batches of deadly fentanyl-laced heroin that has been moving east from Pittsburgh.

Twenty-two people in western Pennsylvania died of overdoses in the past week. Authorities believe that most of the deaths were related to heroin laced with fentanyl, a powerful narcotic typically prescribed to terminal cancer patients as means of pain management.

It is 100 times more powerful than morphine, and in combination with heroin can shut down the respiratory system of users.

The laced heroin went by the street names “Theraflu” and “Bud Ice” in Pennsylvania, but as it made its way to Long Island it was re-branded as “24K.”

It has already been linked to five Long Island overdoses.

The Nassau County medical examiner’s chief toxicologist told Newsday that “this is all happening very rapidly.” The county issued a “contaminated heroin alert” on Thursday to prevent more overdoses.

Last month, 22 people in Rhode Island died in thirteen days. Authorities determined the cause of death in nineteen of them to have been the fentanyl-laced heroin.

Authorities have not said whether the fentanyl-laced heroin played a role in Academy Award-winning actor’s death on Sunday.

I can't believe I have to be the first one to ask this, but: What does this mean for the Hunger Games!?

Interesting fact: He was born about 10 miles from where I'm currently living. I had no idea.

I sometimes wonder how a famous person manages to discreetly go into the city to by heroin or cocaine.

Does he just get in a cab and ask the Taxi Driver if he knows some good dealers in the area?

1) Become drug dealer
2) Find famous person that is into drugs
3) Sell drugs to famous person
4) Call TMZ or National Enquirer
5) Profit

Not to sound like a d--k or being mean, but I find it hard to have any sympathy for drug addicts.
