Ryse Son of Rome

Guys, over/under chances of us getting a Ryse Sequel? I thought it was a fun game a deserved another entry.

Im still waiting for a price drop on this one. Played it a bit at a friends house and liked what I saw. $30 will do it for me.

The setting is so cool, and there are a lot of different directions they could take the series.

Just make the combat and enemies more varied, add more exploration, open world maybe?

I'll definitely be there for a sequel.

This is my favorite launch title for either system, just ahead of Dead Rising 3.

No sequel the game is a 1 off to sell crytek's next gen engine to devs.

The neck-stabbing and barbarian-eviscerating continues unabated with the release of "Duel of Fates," the third downloadable content package for "Ryse: Son of Rome."

The downloadable content features two new arena mode round-to-round maps in Invictus and Barbarous, and a survival map simply titled "Island." Players will also be able to access two new gladiator skins for their combatants, both taken from "Ryse: Son of Rome’s" single-player campaign: Glott the barbarian chief, and "Ryse" protagonist Marius Titus.

Justin Robey, Senior Producer at Microsoft, refers to the new maps as a sort of “Roman Holodeck.” They’re sprawling, multi-tiered affairs that expand well beyond the Roman Colosseum's ability to hold all the action. “We tell stories with our maps,” Robey says.

The maps are loosely based on historical events. The Servile Wars, a series of slave uprisings, inspired the creation of the “Invictus” map. “Barbarous” hearkens back to the numerous barbarian invasions that helped spur the fall of the Roman Empire. In these maps, gladiators are tasked with seizing and holding special landmarks such as the God Tree, lighting wicker men on fire, defending Emperor Nero from harm, and avoiding numerous firetraps and arrow jets. New underground areas link certain stages together, with plenty of thematic and environmental diversity within each map.

In “Barbarous,” players start off in a verdant open courtyard with a banner-decked God Tree, and then quickly move on to a vendor’s market and a claustrophobic, high-walled city center.

I finally picked this up yesterday. I am in total awe of the graphics, and this is a launch title. We are in for some amazing looking games going forward if Ryse is anything to go by. The forest level,I mean...wow.

I should've picked it up for $30. Hopefully, it'll drop sooner than later again.

I cant believe this game got mediocre reviews. I would have bought Ryse at launch had I known what I know now. This game is at least an 8 imo.

That to show you reviews are not always right. Also I think that game is awesome. I want to play arena with someone.

Lol, you are echoing what nearly everyone but reviewers said at launch. Game is definitely worthy of an enthusiastic 8! I still play it to this day.

well to be fair the things reviewers knocked ryse for usually carry a heavy price with scores. not to say its right or wrong, but I agree, definitely my favorite next gen launch game, this and forza.

My boy got a job at Gamestop so now he can check out games for 4 days as long as the store has at least 5 copies.

No problem beating the game in 4 days maybe 6-8 hour SP campaign. I agree with others that the score is low, easily a 7-7.5. Having played Infamous:SS I can say Ryse is easily the best looking nextgen game to date. (Yes, I get it open world vs. corridors...this isn't about "why", it just "is" the prettiest). The only miss on the graphics are that some of the NPC's don't have the same level of detail and don't fit into the rest of amazing graphics.

As a SP game it's ok, a bit repetitive and I was disappointed it never really delved as much into Roman history/settings I would have liked. The story was interesting enough to keep me going to the end. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to really check out MP much and was somewhat deterred by the long load times to play a match online.

In the end, I think everyone should at least rent this game and give it a chance. For those who like MP there may be even more there to make it a worthy purchase, I may re-rent it in the future to check that out also.

Does anyone know at what levels you unlock the different tiers of equipment? I am a level 41 in the MP. I noticed that I could get tier 3 items at level 20. Now I have reached level 41 and tier 4 items are not available yet.I downloaded all the dlc, except a couple skins, and my equipment tiers go all the way to tier 6. It would be nice to know at what level the tiers unlock.

Update:
Found out the answer to my question.
Rank 20 for tier 3
Rank 45 for tier 4
Rank 90 for tier 5
Don't know for sure about tier 6, Ive seen some people say level 130.

i must say they are so many people playing this game online. I just unlocked the shield from Apollo. This game is very cool, I still need to get the maps pack.

I think Crytek has both lain the ground work for a good sequel to Ryse, and made the CryEngine a compelling choice of an engine for devs to use.

Ive made it to level 50 in Gladiator Mode. I think Im going to have start switching the game modes up. Im Tier 4 now, and the challenge in Gladiator Mode doesn't really test me anymore. I could probably go through GM by myself. Im going to start mixing up some Solo, and Survival Modes I think. I was playing co-op last night and saw a guy get a 111 hit combo, he was a really high level and had some bad ass armor. I think my best combo so far is somewhere in the 80s. I also need to play campaign some more and unlock more executions. The DLC has a few challenging maps. The map where you build the pyramid is a good map for kills. Ive gotten over 100 kills on that map before..

Ive checked out some of you guys armor on Xboxclips. Squigs it looks like your armor is from the DLC, I also saw you get a killer 60 hit combo. Nervusbreakdown ,I may be wrong, but I believe your armor is either tier 2-3. That shield is bad ass. U2popmofo, Im pretty sure your armor is Tier 3, also saw you get a sweet 45 hit combo. TDbank24, its looks like your Tier 1, however I did see you pull off a decent 30 hit combo.

The best way to get higher combos in the gladiator mode is to use the armor that increases your focus and then use Apollo as your god. It eventually gets to the point were you have non stop focus ability at your disposal. Then just used the taunt when nobody is around and your combo won't go away. I could easily hit 100+ combos regularly. When I was playing in solo I gained a level every round.

Yeah, you can rack up hits using focus. I have 3 Focus capsules, and my Heath capsules are maxed out I think. I also use Apollo as well. I got an 85 hit combo awhile ago playing Solo Mode. The only problem with Solo Mode is that you cant play on all the maps. A few of the DLC maps are more challenging than the vanilla maps. Survival Mode is probably the most challenging mode.
