Does anyone have a good idea what the gameplay hook will be? I like the way this game appears in pieces but not sure what will keep gamers engaged. Games that require grinding need either a good payoff or need to make the grinding addictive. Preferably both. Will we be able to build cool stuff with the money we collect?
Already posted but this vid has the only real info I've seen that gives any insight into deeper aspects of the gameplay. So far it seems like a lot of potential, but I'm still not sure about it just yet:
Thanks for that Rollins. Yes, it does finally start to put together the gameplay but we can only hope that it is just a start. What they have seems very well crafted and thought out. The burning question is if this game is more than sea battles and fetch/return gold quests. Are we leveling up our characters? Are we creating outposts/hideouts/homes? Do we have resources to find/manage/trade? Are there specific quests/adventures/storyline? Are there activities like fishing/farming/mining? Are there leadership roles/mutiny/imprisonment? I'm sure I am missing more questions too!
Bottom line is there more meat?
Yep. That's still my main question. I like what they have so far and I believe this will continue to demo well. Is it something that people will want to put over 100 hours into though? There needs to be a core hook...something that brings people back. Also S ome options that gamers can chose to do when their friends aren't playing Sea of Thieves. Where's the challenge? What's it all build towards? Is combat fun?
Plenty of potential but a ton of questions.
I agree but base Halo was pretty addictive out the box. Here's to hoping Sea of Thieves is too.I bet this is the kind of game they will continue to add content to. kinda like Halo.
I agree, but in a negative way. I think it's gonna be Street Fighter 5 all over again.I bet this is the kind of game they will continue to add content to. kinda like Halo.

The game still feels like a Beta, and I think its largely because of the way you move. The view point looks like a drone floating around. Not having your hands on the screen makes it feel really detached.
And I'm not sure they entirely know what they want to do with the game. In saying that, I think Rare are one of the few developers that understand the magic of gaming, and pour love and nurturing into what they put out.
You can change the angle and furl of the sails as well as use the anchor to help make sharper turns.I wonder how authentic the sailing sim is. Does having a knowledge of sailing tactics and wind aid in combat? That's pretty cool if so.
