"When it was finished and the video feed was cut off, Suzuki said in Japanese that he hopes that everyone involved with this game dies after it is over and that he will do it himself if he has to. He wanted to make sure that everyone trying to take advantage of the Shenmue legacy will end up dead."
"After the outburst, the two aiding Suzuki on the stream quickly tried to end it and merely muffled the microphone as they struggled with the technological difficulties of using a video camera. We attempted to decipher what Suzuki said afterwards and came up with a partial translation of his personal kill list.
- The executives at Sony
- The people at Awesome Japan
- Everyone who lied to me saying that they would support Shenmue III
- My hopes and dreams
- The people sitting next to me"
Sounds like things are going well.
I think that there has been a fair amount of confusion surrounding the KS, but also an unfair amount of negativity which is a shame. For a game that so many have been begging years for, it is odd the amount of negative sentiment that this KS has received.THat
That can't be real, lol.
WTF @ this.
"Suzuki then wrote on Twitter afterwards that he did not mean anything he said and that it was a joke much like the Shenmue III Kickstarter."
This makes me sad. What the hell is going on? Did he just throw a fit over the funding? That was a TON for a kickstarter. He should keep that in perspective, or were there promises and assurances that he'd get said funding? If the 4 million wasn't enough for something, then he shouldn't have listed it fora goal.
He can always come back for a second round at KS when he has more to show and can woo more money out of people.

Are they obligated to pay interest? I mean, if they don't deliver, they would have had everyone's money for at least two years.I'm sticking with my pledge. At this point I'm more curious than anything else to see what happens. Having reached their goal, they are obligated to deliver a game or a refund. Should be interesting.
The only people that care about the game are the diehards. It's popularity is overblown in my opinion and seeing that only 51k back it, I believe that opinion is right. Regardless of the money it raised, 51k in backers is paltry for a game that people have claimed everyone wanted for nearly a decade.Checking out the Kickstarter page ...
They have it listed as delivered in Dec. 2017. That's optimistic. I'd guess more like Dec. 2018.
It's at 4.4 million, well over it's goal of 2 million. So, some type of game will be produced, eventually. 10 days left in the campaign. I was hoping they'd get to 5 million.
51K backers. Is that a lot? I would've expected more, based on all the screaming.
I don't want to be pessimistic, but I can't help but think the game will sell poorly, once it's actually released. It's far behind the times in terms of its mechanics, the budget will be small, the expectations will be way too high, and it's very niche. Hope it does well, but there's a reason Sony didn't fund this themselves. It's more fan service than something profitable.

Yeah, the small group of followers made it seem like everyone wanted it, but, in reality, very few actually did.Well, a small group of devoted Shenmue fans wanted it, not everyone. People may have gotten the impression that the desire for Shenmue 3 was some kind of widespread, mass movement, but that's just the internet, a sound chamber that amplifies the volume of hardcore fan opinion out of all proportion. It makes Shenmue sound bigger than it really is. I think in Shenmue's case, the long history has resulted in a sort of veneration of the thing, too.
Shenmue is one of those games that sells poorly but is beloved by a small group of fans. The devotion of those fans shouldn't confuse us into forgetting that no one wanted to make Shenmue 3 for 10 years. There was a reason for that. The games just don't sell well, and that's because the size of the fanbase isn't all that big.
Not that lack of sales/popularity means it's a bad game. Some of my favorite games have been unpopular.
Nonsense. It is well on its way to being the number one funded video game in Kickstarter history. The only people that care about the game are the diehards. Because it's going to take $20 million to get this game made, minimum. I don't see this game ever coming out. The $4m will barely cover advertising and salaries. If Sony matches, which looks like that's not the case, this game is going to be made for $5m? I don't see it happening. Right now there's only 51k people that want this game. That's insignificant for a full on 3d immersive world game. I don't know what game people will get for $5m. Original Shenmue had a budget of, what, $50+m? Somehow people think it's going to be made for a 10th of that amount? I don't see it. I hope I'm proven wrong so all of the fans get what they want, but, I don't see it.Nonsense. It is well on its way to being the number one funded video game in Kickstarter history.
Current leader is Bloodstained with: 64,867 backers pledged $5,545,991
I think Shenmue has a good chance to top that, but even if it does not, it is already sitting at #2 all time. I don't see how anyone could question its success.

My god..."Still, the idea that Yu Suzuki could develop and release Shenmue 3 on a $2M budget doesn’t add up. What everyone seems to be forgetting is that the original Shenmue released in 1999 for Dreamcast literally held the Guinness World Record for the most expensive game of all time (at the time) with a production budget of $70M ($99M, if you adjust for inflation. Though Suzuki disputes SEGA’s stated budget and says the game “only” cost $47M). Even if technology has progressed since then, either we’re going to be getting a sharply scaled-back experience, a game that looks like it was made a decade ago, or there’s a source of additional funding somewhere."

I'm assuming Suzuki isn't in charge of how the money is spent this time? Or is he? If he is, we're in trouble. We need someone who knows how to stretch a dollar, not produce a game that sets Guinness World Records for most expensive game of all time.
There is a source of additional funding -- Sony -- but statements from them indicate they aren't pitching in all that much, and that most of the game is self-funded.
#2 game#2? I thought it was [HASHTAG]#10[/HASHTAG]?
Interesting about the 64K backers for the #1 game. 51K must be a pretty good number for a Kickstarter.
#2 game
