VGC reported last February, that Konami was planning to revive the long-dormant horror game series, and this remake is said to be part of those plans.

As VGC reported earlier this year, a Silent Hill 2 remake is understood to be in active development. Sources suggest the game will be a timed exclusive for PlayStation consoles (alongside PC).

Another episodic series of Silent Hill ā€œshort storiesā€ are understood to be in development at a studio under Annapurna Interactive, the acclaimed publisher behind games such as Sayonara Wild Hearts, Outer Wilds and Telling Lies.

 
The 6 silent Hill topics got merged rather than having the same speculation posted multiple times.
 
Never played a Silent Hill game just some demos that I can remember. Don't know why they paid for this to be timed exclusive it's not a system seller. I've seen people complaining online about it already as if the last game Bloober made wasn't exclusive to xbox for 9 months lol.

I guess theyā€™re upset cos theyā€™re current fans, whilst the other was a new ip with probable hopes of a new series/fandom, maybe? I havenā€™t played any SH game, probably wonā€™t šŸ˜†

It's a remake of a 21 year old game by a glorified indie studio that Tencent has its claws dug into. I don't know why anyone would pay to have this be timed exclusive to be honest, really most of the games Sony has done that with this gen seem like a waste of money. I hope this practice ends at some point, I own both consoles so it's not like I would miss out either way but even if I only owned one console it doesn't make me feel better that I can play a game a 3rd party made and someone else can't.

It's one thing if they make their own exclusives and that gives you a reason to invest in their console and eco system, just going out and paying to keep things from other platforms just sucks. If it's going to come to another platform eventually anyway why pay up? in the end your gamers gain nothing.

A year exclusive is pure anti consumer by both the games publisher and the company it's done the deal with.
Sony aren't paying the development costs or anything like that.

We don't know how much goes into these deals so that's speculation but a year or 6 months it doesn't matter it sucks.
