Read about a deal over at Target Canada in late afternoon about the Wii U Deluxe 32GB being cleared out for $149 and decided to try my luck at a location that someone else got the console for.

Walked in, saw people buying 3 at a time. Asked for one and MK8. The sales rep was happy to oblige. We talked a bit about the sales of MK8 and WiiU, paid for the console and was on my merry way. At home, discovered I only paid $149+tax for the console and the guy forgot to put MK8 on the bill... add in the fact that Club Nintendo is having a promotion now where you can get one of these 4 games for free (New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, or Wii Party U.) digitally if you register MK8, this becomes the hottest deal of my life so far.

So I essentially got the Deluxe WiiU 32GB + MK 8 + free game of the 4 for $149+tax... making me an unplanned WiiU owner.

So, which free title should I go for? I was planning on the Wii Party U for when friends come over to play but the other 3 sound good too. Can someone recommend that has all 4?

Recommend me titles to get fellow WiiU owners and let me know what your nintendo tags (not sure what they called) are and I'll add you guys! We can race in MK8. :D

Wow, good deal. So that's a Wii U for under $100, plus you get a free game. Not bad!

Let us know how you like it.

Wow. The bundle at $329.99 in the states is impressive, but your deal is insane.

As for the game, I suggest New Super Mario Bros. U. It sounds like you want to have a cooperative experience and that's a great game with some buddies. Wii Party U apparently sucks, but I haven't tried it myself. Wind Waker and Pikmin 3 are the two best single player games, I feel. Pikmin 3 has multiplayer, but I think for your interests, Mario might be the best choice.

I downloaded New Super Mario with mine. I played Zelda on the GameCube so it came down to Mario or Pikmin. I thought about Pikmin but I've never played one, so I went with what I knew I would enjoy.

I would recommend Pikmin eventually, though. It's an amazing game and might be my favorite game on the system.

I've never finished Wind Waker too actually. I only played very little of it on the GC but never came close to finishing it. Would it be best to go for that one?

I am not the best guy to ask about Zelda. It's my favorite series so I usually always side with it. If you like the series, Wind Waker is a good entry, one of the better 3D Zelda games, in fact. It's much shorter than Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, too. My first play through took about 25 hours but Skyward Sword was close to 50. Yeah, too much. Plus, if you don't like waggle controls, there's traditional button pressing in WW. It's worth noting, though, WW has the worst opening dungeon in any Zelda game, in my opinion. It is totally not indicative of how the game plays out.

BUT I think if I were to choose a game that just defines the best experience on Wii U, I would pick Pikmin 3. It's very unique, gorgeous, and relaxing game. It's like Nintendo Sci-Fi and it works. I think it's their most intriguing IP.

Naty, if your goal is to play with friends like your OP states, I would go for New Super Mario Bros. However, if you're looking for a great new experience, try Pikmin.

It's worth noting that WW retails for $49.99 and Pikmin is $59.99 so if you were to eventually get both, you'd save money picking Pikmin as your free title.

Thanks for the information, Erics. Sounds like I won't go wrong with either of the free choices except for maybe Wii Party U... so I think I'll go for Pikmin 3 for the SP experience since I already have MK8 for the MP.

I plan to play these in the near future too.

The Wonderful 101
The Wind Waker HD
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Super Mario 3D World
New Super Mario Bros. U
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Congrats :) just ordered MK8 myself yesterday, I will add you.

Sorry naty, I typed on my iPhone last night so my grammar might have been off. But yeah, any of those three games would be a good choice. I can't say if Wii Party U is bad, I just haven't heard good things from other people.

Crazy deal. Lucky you. I'd go Wind Waker personally.

So after a day of playing around with it. It's not a bad system but feels slower to navigate than the ps4. Feels about half a gen behind the 4. But MK8 is fun so far, learning each map slowly. 12 player race online is insane. Love the art direction in these Nintendo games, so colourful. Raced with my friend last night, had a blast. Just started Pikmin 3, graphics are pretty for a 720p title. Unique gameplay using the wii u game pad though. Good recommendation as it is a a nice experience so far.

Next is probably trying to unlock everything in MK 8, and also trying to scourge for some deals on the wii u pro controller and some wiimote plus. Heard wii party u comes with one. Also read that all you really need is the wii u game pad and the wii u pro controller for most games. Wii mote plus pretty much only for when friends come over.

I'm feeling the lack of a unified trophies system though, too used to earning new milestones throughout the game haha.

Glad you're liking it! Support the system and expand that library. Wii U games are pretty cheap already.

I just got the pro controller for $39 on Amazon the other day. Might still be that price

I'm in Canada though, not sure if same price. It's $49.99 here at BB. I'd prefer BB because I have $15 RZ GC 's to use too.

Welcome to the family :). You'll be in for a nice time, plenty of addicting games and the new quick boot feature in the OS is a blast :).

I dont know that I would call quick boot " a blast" lol. But it is a nice feature.

Haha yeah, Quick Boot just puts the Wii U on par with the PS4 in terms of boot up speed.

The X1 is no slouch booting from standby. If I say Xbox on it is at the dash and has me signed in before my TV even finishes turning on.

But that is off topic.

I plowed through a good chunk of NSMBU this morning. Good Times. Also finished getting 3 stars on all the 50cc cups. Time to move to 100.

Haha 50 is too easy and 100 isn't much harder but man, 150 kind of sucks. I hopped online instead. I do well (1st or 2nd) in Worldwide rooms but in the GAF tournament, I have only won once. It was on Rainbow Road, though, so it's a bit more respectable.

I generally only play one or two cups at a time. It took me all week to finish the 50cc set. I spent most of yesterday finishing Wolfenstein.

That said, I three stared them all on my first try, so I agree, 50cc is super easy.

100cc might surprise you if you fall off a cliff or something but if you race decently, you won't have trouble.

Off topic, sorry for the hijack.

Gosh, I despise Rainbow Road, it is about the only one I can't do a decent time. Seriously what kind of masochist would love Rainbow road as his favourite track :D.
