Do we really need this ever again?
Honestly, do we need an actual E3 anymore? Can't these companies just put the videos up on Youtube? E3 never lives up to the hype, mostly because we already know most everything now anyway.
Is it a squabble over money? Or they just don't think its worth it anymore?
It is a rather antiquated event. In this day and age is such a thing really needed by companies? I don't think so.
It will be 2020. No way PS5 is launching next year.It makes more sense to do their own thing when they feel their products are ready to show vs having to work around a pre-set scheduled event. I know it's sort of gamers Christmas but I think we'll likely have to get used to this.
It seems a lot of people are saying Sony isn't going to show anything next year that's not likely the case, they were at E3 this year and aren't doing a PSX, there is no way they are gong to go through the 2nd half of 2018 and all of 2019 without showing TLOU2, GoT and DS let alone something else from Japan studio. I still think they'll do their own event and announce the PS5, some are saying it'll be out next fall and others saying Spring 2020 so we'll see.

We been through this...Could be, we'll see but there is no real reason to wait IF the hardware is ready, pricing won't change in a year and neither will the production process.
It wasn't good this year. It’s like the Nerd Super Bowl. How could they do this to us?
We been through this...
The pricing most likely would be cheaper as would the production costs.
This is how tech works.
Anyway a good spec PS5 in 2019 would be great
We've been through it that in 1 year it won't change enough to make it worth the wait, the Pro is still the same price and hasn't seen any big revision other than minor things that make it quieter and it's been on the market for 2 years. We aren't going to get a die shrink in a year (it's already going to be small) and pricing isn't going to change in a year. If the yields are good enough there is no reason to wait, if they aren't then yeah hold off that's why I emphasized the "IF" the hardware is ready in the post you quoted. Pricing changes over time yes but one year with what's rumored to be going into the machine isn't going to make a bit of difference.
Yes but the PS4 is still printing money, and MS won’t release Scarlett until 2020 (most likely), so why bother? Hardware is expensive, and it’s looking like TLOU 2 will be a launch title, so what’s the rush.
As a consumer, of course I’d like to see it sooner. But from a business point of view, 2020 makes much more sense.
Sony has no need to drop the pro price especially with people still buying them. We've been through it that in 1 year it won't change enough to make it worth the wait, the Pro is still the same price and hasn't seen any big revision other than minor things that make it quieter and it's been on the market for 2 years. If they could release in 19 with 11 tf's for 399....they likely due to chip costs etc release in 2020 with 13 tf's for the same price. They most likely couldn't release with 13 tf's in 19 for 399.
The PlayStation family not dropping in price much has nothing to do with costs not coming down.
Sony could easily sell a PS4 for 129/50 and Pro for about 250.
They don't cause people are still buying.
If you think after after 2 years Sony's costs haven't come down for the dated spec Pro then LOL@you.
As far what the console will sell for?
That's anybody's guess as Sony could sell at a loss or not over due the specs ie 10-11.2 TF's to get that 399-450 price point or wait till 2020 as costs come down and throw a 12-13 TF machine together for the same as the above price point.
OR release a 14-15 TF machine for $500.
I don't see them selling at $500 so them going over 13 TF's is unlikely unless(as costs come down) they release in 2021.
X hasn't dropped either cause its selling well.Costs have come down but they didn't drop $100 in a year, secondly they started off with dated hardware in both the base PS4 and the Pro, the stuff that's rumored to be in the PS5 isn't low mid range this time. From what I've read it'll be a few years before they have the option to got to a smaller die size, that's when most of the cost savings kick in, you don't just drop $100 in a year because of time. Hell the One X is $100 more than the Pro, yeah they had 4 more gigs of ram and a stronger GPU but that extra power also meant a more expensive cooling solution as well.
X hasn't dropped either cause its selling well.
I will have mixed feelings if Sony releases a new console in 2019. On the one hand, I'd be glad to have a PS5 that could fully handle 4K/HDR. Otoh, I just spent a bunch of money on an Xbox X, so that I could have "the most powerful console in the world" for the next 2 years -- but that would shrink to just 1 year.
I've spent $400-$500 each year for the past 2 years on new consoles. I'm not really excited about doing it again next year, too.
That's the problem with always chasing power, for me the One X is likely the last MS console I buy unless MS starts making exclusive games that I really want. Up until now I've said I don't regret buying the One X but I also see that I would have been just fine sticking with my Pro and I wouldn't recommend someone buy a One X if they already have a Pro,
I do regret going all digital on the Xbox side, it makes me not want to trade the console in because I can't trade the games with it.
The costs have come down enough for a price drop period. It's not selling well enough to keep it from dropping the price if they still make a small profit on it, it has only been out a year and no console drops $100 in the first year anymore unless they remove something expensive from the package like Kinect.
Gotta disagree with you there. I'd recommend an X to anyone with a 4K TV and Pro. The X is twice as powerful as the Pro. You get a much better picture. Doesn't make sense to buy a 4K TV and not take advantage of it.
BC is great, too.
Yeah, you sound pretty disappointed in the system.
I don't feel that way. I'm very happy with the X.
