Steam Controller $50 and Steam Machines Available for Pre-Order

loved the look of this from day 1. i hope the trackpad thingys can replace analogues in the future, it just seems so much better. i think PC users will love this thing

Yeah I'll be getting this even though I already have a wireless 360 controller.

I am going to wait for consumer feed back. If it turns out to be great, I'll get one. Needs to be better than the Xbox 360 pad, though.

I wonder if this means the real Steam machines will finally start rolling out (well, in October, anyhow).

Getting the controller. Was waiting for MS to drop an adapter for the the One controller but I will just get one of these and see how it goes.

I'm not crazy about the controller myself. I don't really trust Valve to get it right, and if I were to get a Steam machine (maybe 10% chance of that), I'd prefer something familiar (e.g., 360 or DS4 pad), rather than this.

For $50? Uhh yeah. Heck the MS controllers cost more than that (not that they don't go on sale all the time).

I don't know wtf is up with those jank Steam Machines, but I have a controller and Steam Link preordered.

Literally the first time I've used Gamestop in years; they don't charge until the item is ready to ship.

I never heard about the Steam Controller capable of being used on consoles.

Is there any info that mentions it?

I thought I recall it only being for PC and Steam Machines.

Capacitive touch pads replacing sticks? I'll pass.

I thought I'd come into this thread and see people have a similar opinion as me on this controller but I guess not.

I think it looks terrible.

I never understood this.

People thought Sony's boomerang controller looked terrible too. You can't judge a controller by the way it looks. You have to get a controller in your hands before you can make a decent assessment.

Could be awesome. Could be crap. It'll probably lie somewhere in between.

That looks like a pass for me too. Looks like whether you're a keyboard/mouse users or a standard controller user, there will be a learning curve to master using it. I'm not ready to re-learn how I use controllers or keyboard/mouse.

The main problem I see is, the main games that benefits are those that require precision & positioning control of mouse, like MOBA; RTS, sims, & most of these audiences play on PC.

It has to be alot better than traditional controller before people will consider using steam controller for their MOBA etc.

But I reserved my verdict after the controller is released.

What gave you the impression it was capable of being on console?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work on console.

This could be great for someone like me who generally plays on PC with a controller from the sofa. If it can give more accuracy than a controller and a better chance against m/kb users than a controller I'm up for putting some time in and relearning.

I don't see how using your fat thumb on that pad will offer the speed and precision that a mouse does.
