Sounds interesting. A relaxing game about exploring a flooded city.

"G’day from Australia! I’m Ed Orman from Uppercut Games, and it gives me great pleasure to announce that our exploration-adventure Submerged will be coming to PS4 this year." [It's also been announced as coming to X1.]

"Submerged is a serene adventure set in a city that has mysteriously become flooded and overgrown. It follows the story of siblings Miku and Taku — the pair arrive in this strange place in a boat, and Miku has to carry her wounded brother Taku to shelter before she can start gathering the supplies she’ll need to nurse him back to health."

"But to do that, she’ll have to find the supplies first! She will have to explore using her boat and telescope, locate the forgotten caches, then climb the crumbling buildings to retrieve them."

"As she traverses the sunken metropolis, Miku starts to uncover the secrets of how this world came to be. And in turn, we begin to learn about Miku and Taku: what drove them to this mysterious city, where the only inhabitants appear to be malformed copies of the native sea-life?"

"Submerged is a game that we want players to immerse themselves in (no pun intended). We use Unreal Engine 4 to create the gorgeous graphics that you see above. We’ve enlisted BAFTA-Award Winner Jeff Van Dyck to provide the musical score. The gameplay is designed with no failure states: play at your own pace, safe in the knowledge that you’ll never die. It all adds up to create a relaxing, mysterious adventure that everyone can enjoy."

Yeah, sounds kind of mysterious. I like the slow, leisurely pace of it, too. And the emphasis on exploration; I always enjoy that.

Been on my radar for a little while. Seems like a nice game to relax to.

Releasing August 7th on Xbox. PS4 release yet to be announced.

New trailer:

Destructoid thought it stunk (3/10):

"Within under ten minutes time you'll have experienced all the game has to offer; boring boating, equally dull scaling of buildings and peering out a periscope to find the next white and green building to climb. There is no failstate, no urgency, no combat, just moving from point to point and monotonously collecting s***. The story isn't interesting, the gameplay is boring, everything looks the same aside from a few landmarks, and the whole ordeal is over in no time."

These guys liked it all right (8/10):

"The game is a beautiful looker and presents a relaxing & enjoyable experience that’s moving in its own speed yet in-sync with your own. The story is simple and neat but that’s about it. There are some emotions boiling up nearing the end but even then it wasn’t that captivating. Although there are some technical quality control that brings the game down from giving players full relaxing and enjoying experience, I can’t deny that its charming it gave me a good chuck of that full experience.

At $20, and with everything else on my plate, I'll pass. I was pretty put off by Destructoid's description, which made it sound boring. Last thing I need is another game where I just run (or sail) around collecting sh1t.

Just finished it, such a great game and love how the story's told.

Probably my favourite Indie game so far on Xbox.

That's good. I might check it out eventually, although I've got a backlog. I've been seeing some encouraging reviews mixed in with the bad ones.

Its refreshing for a game to cause such a divide in reviews for the experience it offers.

I like the idea that they made something different, that you'll either 'get it', or you wont.

It's only $15.99 right now if you're gold but even at that price, I'll probably wait until it's under $10. I have plenty to play so I'll save my $$ for other indies like Wasteland 2 and/or Sword Coast Legends.. Disappointed this didn't turn out better but I'm getting that it's short and the story is hit or miss.
