Bummer. I really enjoyed the first season and was hoping for a second. Sounds like it won't happen.

Tales from the Borderlands Was “a Failure” for Telltale

The first episode of Telltale Games’s Tales from the Borderlands launched in November 2014 to critical acclaim, and while the following episodes were also warmly received, the project was deemed a failure by the publisher.

In a long oral history on the development of Tales from the Borderlands posted on Campo Santo’s Quarterly Review, Director Nick Herman said the game failed to achieve success internally. “I had a hard time getting excited for the next thing,” Herman said. “Tales was my life for two years, and internally it was perceived as a failure. Critically it was a huge success, but from a sales and production standpoint, it wasn’t awesome.”

That is dissapointing. Tales from the Borderlands had to be my favorite Telltale game besides TWD season 1.

I'm disenchanted with Telltale and think I'll skip any further games from them. I was a big fan of Season 1 TWD; it was my GOTY. I thought they were breaking new ground in storytelling.

Since then, they've lost key creative talent, chased one license after another, and churned out product like they're on an assembly line. Despite making money hand over fist, they won't support games like this and won't invest in a new engine.

It seems pretty clear to me that they just want to make as much money as they can before their torch goes out. Good for them, I guess.

I'm not going to support them any longer, though. I don't respect how they've managed things.

Give it a try, when you get a chance. It's a good mix of action and humor.

I actually forgot it was a game.

I kind of lost interest in most of them after Wolf Among Us, even though I loved it.

The presentation was never good enough to draw me into their games. You'd think given the very scripted nature of their games they could really provide a visually pleasing game. Their animation is not acceptable to me.

Different strokes. I'm glad I don't get put off by technical stuff as much as you do. I wouldn't enjoy half the games I do, half as much.

Has it's plus' and minuses. I tend to over-enjoy technical and artistic acheivement. Even if the whole of a game isn't amazing, I can appreciate well done elements.

You should hear me during online Halo matches where the guys are laughing at me because im commenting on some nice lighting or design, lol, and we know Halo isn't the prettiest girl on the block...

Her name is Cortana, not Halo, and she turns all the 0s into 1s, so you just wash your mouth out now, heretic.

Eventually the sales for all their games will go down in response to them not updating their engine for 30 years. Pong runs better than some of these games.

The thing that bothers me the most is the gameplay -- all of their games have the same mechanics, and they all feel pretty much the same. The story is different, but the mechanics are always the same.

That stuff felt new 5 years ago, but not anymore. They've saturated the market. There are so many Telltale games, and they all play out pretty much the same way. It feels very formulaic.
