The 2017/2018 NBA Season Thread

Don't fault him for losing in the finals but do credit him for beating a bunch of Eastern Conference trash cans?

You can't have it both ways

Cavs had no business beating the Celtics who probably would have been more competitive. Thanks LeBron.

Meh, Jordan went through just as many cupcakes but people forget it because so few are basketball nerds.

LeBron did way more with way less making him the GOAT.

Lebron will never be great enough to gamble until 4am in Atlantic City and take out the best Knicks team ever.

King James went to bed at a reasonable time and beat the greatest regular season team in NBA history whilst down 3 to 1 in the Finals.

What were you saying about the Knicks again?!

Booyah!!

I honestly think it’s dumb to compare players and teams from now to a past era. Was a totally different style of play and defending. These cry baby players today would cry like little girls playing in the 80’s early 90’s.

LeBron brings bad teams to the Finals.

Jordan brings bad teams to the lottery.

Twenty years ago, when you try to peddle the LBJ is the GOAT story, the response will be "Grandpa, what's a Dirk Nowitzki, and how in the hell would the greatest player of all time make up a super team and lose to something that sounds like a German goat sneezing?"

I'll tell him Dwayne Wade wasn't a good fit next to LeBron because he was ball dominant and couldn't shoot behind the arc. Then I'll tell him Chris Bosh, who made his hay close to the basket in Toronto, was asked to sit in the corner for spot up 3s, which neutralized much of what made him special. I'll tell him "Son, combining super talent doesn't necessarily give you a super team."

But I will tell him about the time LeBron led a Cavs team to beat the greatest regular season team in the history of the league.

What do old people tell kids when they ask them about Pippens 55 win team?

LBJ best player ever. Yes, better than Jordan.

But, with all that talent he has trouble winning more championships because he'll never be a team player. He tries to do everything himself and tries to ensure there is nobody else as a close second. Wade, Bosh, Irving, Love all great players. The second James arrives, they get pushed aside as second fiddle as James tries to do everything and everyone else gets pigeon holed to take perimeter shots and 3 pointers.

Kevin Love was a C/PF in Minnesota who did a lot more than 3 pointers. He scored in close, could shoot long range when needed and grabbed about 15 rebounds per game. He comes to Cleveland and some reason he's asked to take long shots from the corner.

If James is on his game, his talent is enough to bring a team of average players to the finals, and when he's on, his 40 point/40 minute games can be enough to win. When he's off his game, chances of winning are slim.

A team like GS is totally different. They have Durant, Klay and Steph as 3 awesome players. But none of them are as good as LBJ. In each game, 1-2 of them have been lousy, but the team is balanced enough and they share the ball enough to still get points. Even that slow motion gangling Jevale guy gets passed the ball to dunk.

So true.

This goes for hockey too.

Players now are bigger, stronger, more athletic, shoot better..... you name it. But magically time travel them 20-30 years ago playing against guys who were drunk half the time and they would get the shyt kicked out of them.

Players back then didn't care either. If they were down, they'd send out goons to fight to teach the other team a lesson for next time.

Here's a clip from the 80s where a player shot the puck into the other teams net during pregame warmups. A big no-no. You'd never see fights like this anymore.

I'd love would love to see how a fast, skilled team now would go up against an 80s playstyle where elbowing, hip checks, fights, and every team had 2-3 200+ penalty minute goons ready to go were normal fare. And guys wore half the pads they do now. And a wooden stick hurts a lot more than modern composite stick as old wooden ones are heaiver, don't break easily and easier to chip up where the edges become sharp.

1. If he truly was the greatest of all time, not the greatest of the regular season, he wouldn't have scored two limp points from the line while Dallas went on a 22-5 run IN MIAMI to end game 2 and erase a 15 point 4th quarter deficit.
2. They don't ask about that 55 win team because the regular season is even more trash than the modern day eastern conference.

Lebron was awful in those finals

1. LeBron isn't perfect and Jordan missed shots if you stop watching commercials.

2. Lol ok bud.

Yeah I remember when Jordan was s***ty in the finals against a clearly inferior team

Jordans Bulls were favorites to win in six of six Finals appearances.

LeBron's teams were favorites to win in 3 of 8 Finals appearances.

Jordan faced cupcakes. You were all too young and impressionable at the time to appreciate the nuance of team basketball. You watch Spacejam, the McDonals commercials, and the shoes and annointed him the GOAT as a result. LeBron, who's bigger, faster, stronger, a better offensive player and defensive player than Jordan was simply weighed down by inferior teammates. Jordan was buoyed by a HoF coach and a fantastic team in a watered down league in the 90s.

In his Championship wins the credit should go to Kyrie and Allen.

Nonsense.

This whole debate is nonsense. The old timer Jordan zombies have put forth one of the weakest arguments I've ever been apart of (lol rings).

I will be proven correct when next year's Cleveland team loses more than 2 additional games post LeBron.

How does that prove anything? The team will be gutted and they also didn't win the title. Not even close in fact.
