The Dark Tower

I'll admit that as much as I like him, it's not how I envisioned Roland. Always thought of a Clint Eastwood type in that role. But I know he will be great in it.

Ditto.

And tobe fair it looks pretty decent, which can't be said for most Steven King adaptations.

Stephen King movies are often good and sometimes all time classics. It is the TV miniseries that are usually bad.

Not really. Out of like 60 adaptations there are only like a handful that I would say were good...

The Shining
Green Mile
Shawshank
Misery
Stand by Me

Carrie
The Mist

There are some other solid ones but you are probably right although in terms of adaptations many probably turned out as good as you good hope. Hard to really expect much from Pet Sematary.

I had misery.

Those other two, eh.

You are correct about the TV shows though. I can't find a single one I would recommend to sombody.

I only read the first book and maybe a little of the second. I stopped reading years ago when King said he'd never finish them. Then of course he did. I remember the first book being very confusing but interesting.

This looks pretty decent.

This has some multiverse or multi-dimensional elements that I wish were more present in Dr. STRANGE.

I also sort of hope this expands as metafiction like the source material.

IMO the books were a wandering mess with an absurd ending. Maybe it can be turned into a decent movie.

It and Salems Lot were both decent, but they are the exception.

Shawshank, Green Mile, and The Mist were all directed by Walking Dead creator Frank Darabont. It's really a shame that he could not have been given the Dark Tower reigns, IMO. I can't think of a more qualified director.

Loved the books, but I completely understand why someone wouldn't like them all, especially the ending. I can't help but be hyped for this and pray it isn't awful.

I like books 1-4. Really thought 5-7 we're pretty bad. The Wind Through the Keyhole was good also.

Some people think this is the Horn of Eld. That might have significant effect on the plot.

Sounds like its pretty bad but at least it gave us a funny line from this review

http://uproxx.com/movies/the-dark-tower-review/

The Dark Tower has been in production for around ten years in some form or another. This final product reminds me a lot of the GOP healthcare plan: You’ve had all this time and THISis what you come up with? I can already picture John McCain strolling into a theater this weekend, giving a dramatic thumbs down, killing The Dark Tower forever.

We thought about seeing this next weekend. Not now after the reviews. From what little I know of the source material, it should have been made into a tv series instead.

I'm confused. So now we are getting a tv series based on this?

Well that was the plan and they are still claiming that but its not going to happen because its not going to happen because its not going to do well

I went in with low expectations and still left disappointed. This wasn't a Dark Tower movie, it was a fantasy/action flick with a couple handfuls of Dark Tower easter eggs.

It was a half passed attempt to jump start a cinematic universe building a movie out references.

They even had graffiti saying "All hail the Crimson King" while otherwise this character has no presence in the movie or is even discussed.

The sad thing is all the actors were decent and Idris tried to sell us on his Gunslinger skills, but not even the Allstate guy could save this adaption.
