The Dwarves is a game based on the best selling novel of the same name by Markus Heitz. The game, and the book, look, and read, like they can be plucked right out of Tolkien’s Middle Earth. The Kickstarter campaign for the game is drawing to a finish and your last chance to get in on it are days away.

KING Art Games is an indie studio out of Boston with a knack for creating games with graphics that are above what indie studios are known for. Their game, The Book of Unwritten Tales 2, gives me vibes of Rare back when they were making Kameo. The Dwarves looks to be taking KING Art Games’ graphics prowess to the next level.

Remember the Helm’s Deep battle in The Two Towers? That’s how the battles in The Dwarves are. The enemy orc, Älfar and bögnilim armies vary in size. Some armies are so numerous that you’d be a fool to fight them yourself. Luckily, you’ll get 12 companions to help fight with you. But hold on, you’re not going to have all them at the start. You’ll meet new companions along your journey and help you when you need it. Looking at the Kickstarter video, you’re gonna need them quite often!

Like many fantasy RPG games, there are quests to do, side quests to accomplish if you choose, and, of course, there’s leveling up. You and your party members all have their own unique backstories and skills. Of the 12 compadres you eventually have at your disposal, you’ll choose four to accompany you into each battle. Choose wisely because they are going to help determine if you win or lose each battle.

The battles in The Dwarves can get massive. We’re talking hundreds of enemies at a time. You’re not going to be able to run and hammer these armies. It’s going to take some thought in bringing them down. That’s what makes a great game. When you can’t just brute force your way through a level is one of the gameplay aspects I love when I come across it in a game. The Dwarves looks to be right up that alley.

The world of The Dwarves, Girdlegard, is surprisingly large for an indie title. There are 200-300 waypoints around the world and around 25 hours of gameplay. I mentioned this is an indie game, right? That’s a longer game than many full-studio games. With two Kickstarter games already delivered by KING Art Games, there’s no doubt that The Dwarves will be another success. Check out the video, and screens, below and jump in on the Kickstarter before it’s gone. The Dwarves will be available in mid-2016 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, Mac & Linux.

Looks interesting. Comes from guys that deliver on their kickstarters.

This looks like something I could get behind.
