The End of the World: A Political Thread. A New Hope coming soon!

Didn't she call Ben Shapiro a toxic male for challenging her to a debate centered on political issues? That was pretty weak in my opinion.

She seems insanely idealistic which I'm weary of. I'd much prefer my politicians to be pragmatic rather than idealistic, but we'll see.

Not a very high one but its totally irrelevant. She would have nothing to gain by having a debate.

Have you ever seen him lose a debate?

I don't even like the guy but he seems like a robot designed specifically to perform in debates. The speed in which he can access information is unbelievably fast. But I agree, ducking him was the right call.

Its not like you are going to have a consensus on who wins anyway but lets say she wins then what? What does she gain? Nothing. What does he lose? Nothing. So why bother?

He offered her 10k dollars to donate to her campaign, so that's a tangible gain.

It also offers her a chance to test her strongly beliefs against respectable opposition. Something I think we should all be doing up until the age of 97 years old because none of us have everything figured out.

It also offers her the chance to pick up more support. A debate between her and Ben Shapiro would draw tons of eyeballs, many of which would be from the political center. If she performs well, she would grow her base which is also a pretty tangible gain.

But if a 25 year old Mike Tyson offers you 10k dollars to go 3 rounds with him in an exhibition match, you're right...not much to gain.

She was going to win her election no matter what once she won the primary and has since become the most visible Democrat around. Seems like whatever decided to instead seems to have worked. Ben Shapiro can go back to claiming to have owned liberals by asking them if they would kill baby Hitler.

We all know what would actually happen if they debated. Conservatives would say he won, Liberals would say she won, and everyone else would say its a tie just like every debate ever.

I recommend you listen to a few episodes of Intelligence Squared. It's a debate podcast that proves there is a subset of people out there who measure debate a little more objectively than you give credit for. Jump off of social media btw, it's a terrible representation of how humans actually behave and think.

She didn't want to debate him because she lacks confidence. The fact that she tried to associate his offer to toxic masculinity is somewhat telling.

Ocasio-Cortez is the rep from the NY 14th district. The right is trying to elevate her to some major player in the party, but she isn't (yet). No matter what our feelings on her are, few of us even voted for or against her. Only the people in that NYC district did.

They are using her as a straw man argument for 2020, but she's not even eligible to be President since she's way too young.

Not to mention, the strategy of going after her has pretty much backfired on them so far. :)

She's basically pulling an Obama.

It will work over time though. Eventually people will hate her and they won't even know why.

trump is going to storm the House to try and deliver the state of the union. It would be awesome if he tried and the doors were locked.

Yep, she's already a regular on the front page of Fox News, so that's happening already.

This was the actual front page of Faux News from Jan 17th. We're in the middle of a gov't shutdown because the GOP is trying to waste $5.7 billion dollars, but the "Democrats" are the ones that want to "give everything away for free".

Pelosi has once again said no so I like the idea of him going and doing it with the House empty with the lights off and no cameras.

So you must have voted for Hillary.

Gary Johnson? Jill Stein? LOL. You have a loose interpretation of what pragmatism is if that's the case. If you didn't vote at all in the 2016 presidential election then no one's gonna really listen to you here (unless you weren't of legal age) Kind of an unwritten rule.
