Another important headline that gets lost in all the rhetoric. Whatever your personal beliefs on border security, one thing is clear - Trump's rhetoric and policies HAVE NOT WORKED.

Republicans can claim they are "tough on borders", but the facts simply don't back it up (the whole thing is a manufactured crisis anyway).

Isn't much of this a side effect of our trade deals like NAFTA impacting foreign markets and farmers? Along with decades of our Drug Wars? Probably including Arms deals and Bribes of our own corrupting other governments?

Even as our shortsighted manufacturers move to Mexico, the jobs they create there have low wages.

It's a twisted irony to then call these people 'parasites' seeking welfare after we've sucked the life out of their homelands.

The immigration issue has little to do with Mexico. Mexicans for the most part aren't even the ones coming. The big problem now is a very different one - people from Central and S America fleeing drug lords, violence and collapsing economies (we haven't seen a lot of the latter but that's coming).

These people aren't looking to sneak over the border. They want to find a border patrol agent and officially ask for asylum.

The latest group moving north is supposedly from Hondouras, Guatamala and El Salvador.

Trump's empty, hate filled rhetoric doesn't even address the main issue.

Another important fact on immigration is that the numbers of people coming over the border is actually way down overall. The entire thing is a manufactured crisis by the alt right. The real looming problem is the governments of Central and South American countries destabilizing. The problem is a massive collapse could create a massive humanitarian crisis that we have no way of dealing with.

Saudi Arabia ‘Coincidentally’ Wires $100 Million To U.S. Amid Khashoggi Controversy
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to discuss the disappearance and presumed murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. That same day, the U.S. government received a $100 million payment from the oil-rich kingdom, The New York Times and Washington Post reported — an amount that had earlier been promised to the Trump administration to support its stabilization efforts in Syria.
Trump officials have insisted the timing of the hefty transfer was pure coincidence. But some Middle Eastern experts say they aren’t so sure.
“In all probability, the Saudis want Trump to know that his cooperation in covering for the Khashoggi affair is important to the Saudi monarch,” Joshua Landis, director of the University of Oklahoma’s Center of Middle East Studies, told the Post. “Much of its financial promises to the U.S. will be contingent on this cooperation.”
One U.S. official involved in Syria policy was blunter. “The timing of this is no coincidence,” the official told the Times.
Brett McGurk, the U.S. envoy to the coalition fighting the Islamic State, has maintained, however, that the Saudi payment had no connection whatsoever to Pompeo’s meeting with the Crown Prince or Khashoggi’s alleged murder.
Saudi Arabia had publicly committed the money in August, he said, adding that “the specific transfer of funds has been long in process and has nothing to do with other events or the secretary’s visit.”

New Emails and Photo Show President Intervened Directly in Decision Not to Sell FBI HQ Property to Potential Trump Hotel Competitors
New documents obtained by the Ranking Members show that a more expensive plan to keep the existing property on Pennsylvania Avenue, demolish the existing building, and construct a new facility on the same site—and thereby prevent commercial developers from competing with the Trump Hotel directly across the street—was approved during a meeting with President Trump at the Oval Office on January 24, 2018.
These new documents include emails that describe this decision as “direction from the White House,” “what POTUS directed everyone to do,” and “the project the president wants.” The new documents also show that top GSA officials promised to “hold our ground” on this proposal “per the President’s instructions.”
“As a direct result of President Trump’s clear conflict of interest on this matter, we are now requesting information and documents to determine whether the President is making decisions about the FBI headquarters building based on what is best for the country or what is best for his own financial bottom-line,” the Ranking Members wrote.
Many years before becoming President, Donald Trump expressed interest in the FBI headquarters moving out of Washington, D.C. so he could acquire the land on Pennsylvania Avenue and redevelop the property. However, after he was sworn in as President—and became ineligible as a federal employee to obtain the property—he reportedly became “dead opposed” to the government selling the property to potential competitors.

But because they desperately want to incarcerate people crossing the border, which ends up being a ten dollar fine and time served plus sending them back, they're severely dropping the amounts of drug trafficking cases pursued at the federal level and just dumping them down to the states.

Big surprise - it makes no sense to prosecute people who's only crime is illegally entering the country.

I'm sure Trump's logic is to treat human beings so horribly at the border that they stop coming - guess what? Not only is that awful, it doesn't even work.
The real point of the policy is racism. Just another dog whistle used to get racists to vote for him.

The scary thing about most racist videos you see today isn't just the hate being spewed, but it is the people knowing they are being filmed and not even being shamed into changing their behavior.

Can confirm I get a text or two a week. Makes me feel special then I just find out it's Alice or Elaine with Team Beto. Also have gotten one from IA gubernatorial race.

Surveillance footage shows Saudi operative in Khashoggi's clothes after he was killed, Turkish source says
Istanbul (CNN)One member of the 15-man team suspected in the death of Jamal Khashoggi dressed up in his clothes and was captured on surveillance cameras around Istanbul on the day the journalist was killed, a senior Turkish official has told CNN.
CNN has obtained exclusive law enforcement surveillance footage, part of the Turkish government's investigation, that appears to show the man leaving the consulate by the back door, wearing Khashoggi's clothes, a fake beard, and glasses.
The same man was seen in Khashoggi's clothing, according to the Turkish case, at the city's world-famous Blue Mosque just hours after the journalist was last seen alive entering the consulate on October 2.
The man in the video, identified by the official as Mustafa al-Madani, was allegedly part of what investigators have said was a hit squad, sent to kill the journalist at the Saudi consulate during a scheduled appointment to get papers for his upcoming wedding.

Interesting read on the disinformation campaign on twitter. Note how they create an account posing as a city's local news agency (which is easy to miss as not being verified).

I can't remember the source, but I remember reading about the accounts that mimic a local news org. They start out looking legit but eventually down the road start releasing fake stuff so like you said it's easy to miss.

I've only watched the opening 3 minutes of this so far but it seems like it would be good to know. I've never watched Crowder and don't know much of his antics, but he seems very similar to Ben Shapiro. Someone that pretends to be smart but fails in so many ways.

Yes, Stephen Crowder is part of the "Intellectual Dark Web" which includes the likes of Ben Shapiro, Dave Rubin etc...

Data & Society made a report about the relationship between these and how they use each other to push their agendas.

And here is Crowder getting owned by Alexa.
