The Football/Soccer Thread

Yes, yes, this Leicester thing is well and good and all, but the real story is that AFC Wimbledon are just a few playoff wins from going up to League One, and MK is already headed back down there.

Leicester City is such an awesome story that I can easily put my fandom for ManU aside and salute their title. There is a 30 minute show out there which brings forth much of the back story in how it all came together and it's a riot to watch all the TV pundits say how it would never last early in the season.

It takes all I have not to become a fan. I like their many of their players better than a few on my own side, but it's really not the individuals but the chemistry together that makes it all work. Not unlike FIFA's Ultimate Team where increasing chemistry raises individual players abilities, Leicester has proven it doesn't take superstars and large payrolls to win. The question remains if they can hold it together for next season when $$$'s come knocking on their players doors.

Would have preferred that Arsenal beat City but I guess an away tie is good enough. Need just 1 point vs Aston Villa to guarantee 3rd and no Champions League qualifier.

That had to be a tough 5 minute stretch from the 75th to 80th minute for Man U fans. Happy for the West Ham fans to be probably getting a chance to play Europa League next year. Sticks for Man U fans to be dependant on City to lose this weekend. I'll be hoping for it too so that Arsenal gets third. Would love to see Pep have to recruit players from the Europa league rather than Champions

West Ham can suck my dirty, hairy ballz.

Man Utd...f*** them too. What a terrible defensive showing. The one thing we have been good at for 2 seasons and we fail to do it when we needed it the most.

Final Day drama
Arsenal v Aston Villa (Arsenal gets 1 point and they're guaranteed a top 3 spot)
Man U v Bournemouth (Man U needs a win and a Man City loss in order to make the top 4)
Swansea v Man City (Man City can get 3rd with win and Arsenal loss, guaranteed Champions League with a tie)
Newcastle v Tottenham (Tottenham guaranteed 2nd with a tie, if they lost and Arsenal win they'll be third)

Hoping for a Tottenham loss and Arsenal win this weekend so there can be a Saint Totteringham's day celebration on the final day :)

If Liverpool win the Europa League they get a position in next years Champions League playoff right? From my understanding it doesn't effect the 4th place team getting into CL right?

EDIT: Nevermind...just read that they'd get the 5th spot for EPL. The only way the 4th would have been bumped was if City won the CL but finished outside the top 4.

well kinda.. rules changed so the only way 4th spot would be taken is if english teams win both European competitions(CL and EL) and both finish outside top 4

Happy St Totteringham's Day! Lol. All they needed was a tie out of their last two games. I guess when Leicester sealed the league they lost heart.

City got a tie so they sealed the fourth spot in Champions League.

Man U tied and Southampton jumped them into 5th which knocked West Ham out of Europa League

Crazy final day.

Well the final day is now Tuesday.

Nice to see Spurs took 2 week break after the title was won. Oh well ill still take 3rd and be very happy

Have to say, all in all, one of the more enjoyable seasons I watched despite Arsenal s***ting the bed in the second half of the season again. How long to the first game of next season? Wonder who'll get the megaton signings this off season.

Well, going out on a win is nice. Even though Champions League football was the goal, we don't deserve. We wouldn't have made it past the group stage in my opinion. Still, the FA cup will be fun to watch and it'll be nice to bring some silverware back to Old Trafford.

Agreed. I'm American but you brits need a real goal scorer in your Intl squad.

We have one. He is called Harry Kane. This is the first international tournament since Harry Kane made his mark.We also have Vardy who had a sensational season.

Tis true! Forgot about the Hurricane. I hope you guys do well in Euro, been too long since England took home some silverware.

We wont do well. Our defense and midfield is lacking the quality needed to compete, IMO. I just want Hodgson to blood the new era of England internationals. So I am hoping that Stones, Alli, Dier Rashford all get plenty of game time.
