The Halo Thread

@Squiggs

So basically like the Metroid games of old only in first person, I could dig that.

If you have a Wii at least, I recommend getting the pack with all 3 games. Most people didn't like the 2nd prime but I think it's pretty okay, pretty gritty for a Metroid.. Oh, and having a Metroid stuck to your face in first person is fugging creepy.

There was a rumor that it would be like that but Frankie called it fake. Would've been pretty cool though.

Who knows could still have elements of a game like Prime. Looks like MC is rogue or at least off the grid in the teaser for H5. Especially after the events of H4 and Spartan Ops.

Played a bit of Halo 3 today. My god did 343i do a fantastic job revising this franchise. There were so many things I'd forgotten you couldn't do in Halo 3 that you could in Halo 4. I kept trying to run and activate my invisibility and s***! Friggin frustrating mate!

From me to you; THANKS 343i!!:bang:

"Forget the UNSC, I need a weapon."

I can see MC doing this, he's obedient in the sense that he does whatever it takes for Earth... Damn, I got to read Fall of Reach again. I'm pretty much the Halo flag carrier of the forum, lol.

Yeah, I could see the need to requisition weapons/ordinance/upgraded armour etc... It could have an open world style setup, in your quest to obtain said items and still have the classic "Halo" gameplay/levels and what-not.

Well think of the best levels from the original Halo ..like where your dropped off on a island !! you had the whole island to explore and could go at the Covenant in any way you wanted, there was another level like this as well but I can't remember for the life of me the names of them. Halo 5 needs more of this and yes I think open worlded would fit perfectly into a lot of Halo, You can have your scripted events sprinkled through out. As for multiplayer keep a basic "none COD" multiplayer type called "classic" for the Halo nerds, then throw all the new s*** in the rest of it. People can have there cake and eat it to.

Honestly, Halo 4 felt a little bit unfinished. At least on the multiplayer section. Waiting for team snipers every now and then was annoying. I think they gave us too much fire by having those loadouts. I mean, remember when almost everybody was excited for the BR and that rifle only lasted like a month or two in use?

I said it before & I will say it again.....in terms of campaign....
Best to worst...

Halo: CE
Halo 4
Halo 3
Halo 2
Reach
ODST.....f***in horrible.

In terms of multiplayer:

Halo 2 (Best) clans, best maps, real skill to be good,
Halo 3 (ODST) (Okay) loss of clans made it worse, but still okay.
Halo: CE (Lan parties made it boss...without lan it was just fine)
Reach (Armor abilities made it suck ass...trying to be like COD)
Halo 4 (f***in terrible)

Odst was great, stop smoking pot Asca, it is ruining your memory.

I want Halo next to be a hybrid rpg shooter like I saw in a pastebin leak from a few months ago.

While I am kind of high....that doesn't negate the fact that ODST had the WORST campaign. It wasn't even the fact that you were playing as an orbital troop. The entire experience just felt dull and left me bitter. Online is the only thing that saved it...as it was just more Halo 3 mp. As a stand alone Halo game...ODST stunk like Lindsay Lohan muff.
A Halo rpg/shooter hybrid does sound interesting.

In my opinion, ODST had one of the best campaigns of all of them. Just being able to explore the city at night and stalk Covenant was a blast. And the daytime levels were awesome. Soundtrack was amazing.

And I agree, I'm not afraid of change. I say give Halo some RPG elements. And no, I'm not talking about leveling up the Master Chief.

Frank O'Conner has openly said that Halo will never have "aiming down sights"

Halo 3, now, (keyword) feels like the definition of plodding.
I bought ODST, I had all the maps, played religiously for years, and still don't understand how anyone thinks Halo 3 was the best.

I won't go into a tirade any longer than this, I need not start that.

Halo 3 was just so simplistic and at the same time complex in its competitive multiplayer, but that's me.

Also, Kiki Wolfkill said there is so many possibilities and lore in the Halo universe that a Halo RPG does not sound impossible. They might even be working on it for all we know.

Don't know if you've noticed, but most FPS are looking out to be COD clones.

I get what you're saying, but I was impressed with their work and for a studios first game from scratch, they did an amazing job with Halo 4 and they're just getting started. I give them the benefit of the doubt.

I liked the custom loadouts to be honest, in Halo 4. I've never liked Bungie's past since Halo 2, in regards to the starting weapon being totally inferior. Halo CE did it right with the scoped pistol, it was a balanced starting weapon that allowed you to defend yourself from pretty much anything each time you spawned.

Bungie screwed that system up with Halo 2 and Halo 3, SMG starts and then assault rifle starts, so the entire two games revolved around dual wielding and then assault rifle starts. Start with trash, pick up better weapons, kill helpless peons spawning with trash to defend themselves with.

Halo 4 also introduced hit-scan, a very welcomed addition, no longer would you be depending on the host's connection to land your shots, instead when you fired the trigger, it was declared instant hit detection.

In Halo 5, I wouldn't mind the custom loadouts again, but as for the rest of the game, they need to ditch the armor abilities and go back to Halo 101, which is great maps designed to test the skill of players controlling/timing powerups (overshield and camo) and power weapons (snipers, rockets, shotgns, etc).

I don't think Halo 3 was the best by any means, but it's the last true Halo game that has the traditional core concept of Halo. Reach and H4 threw that out the window.

Like Metroid sort of? First you start with a few basic areas where you learn to get around puzzles and enemies, and at some point you fight the boss. As soon as you beat the boss you get a power up or a special item that gives you the ability to traverse areas. An example is in Metroid Prime 2 where you get the dark suit and you're able to pass through the dark areas easier. It's like this repeatedly except the gameplay evolves with every boss and area, and at some point you can travel anywhere.
I'd rather just get a new Metroid game and let it handle that kind of gameplay. Then let Halo do Halo.

Right with you on this one, ODST is a great game. I loved the campaign, was awesome exploring the city as a "regular" ODST trooper. Bungee mixed up the Halo formula just enough while keeping the great gameplay the franchise is known for. I also loved the soundtrack, a nice mellow jazzy tone that perfectly suited the night time/low key atmosphere. People complain that Halo is to complacent and when it gets changed up in the slightest people complain its not Halo...

I own entire Halo games!! (I sold Halo Wars years ago and determine to get it back soon!). My wife and I are a huge fan of Halo series and will continue to buy every single game for the rest of our lives! LOVE LOVE LOVE Halo!

No just no, that's just not Halo. Get that s*** outta here! :txbmad:

Relax they only copy COD. Dont worry about them copying good games like Metroid Prime.

As for those rankings

Campaign
ODST>CE>3>2>4>Reach

MP
2>3>CE>Reach>4

It's always interesting to see peoples favorite/least favorite Halo lists....The responses are always all over the place. The fact that people can't agree on WHY they like Halo, really shows how diverse the gameplay can be. Me? I love all of them.

My rankings for Halo:

Campaign
CE>4>3>ODST>2>Reach

Multiplayer
CE>2>3>4>Reach

Nobody ever mentions Halo Wars.

Mine would be:

Halo CE=2=3=ODST=Reach=4>Wars :D

I love all the Halos because of story telling and the way they make you feel like a super soldier.

Campaign:

CE

Reach
ODST

MP:

(I like all the mp variants games at least to a degree, even halo 3 on the bottom was fun)

Campaign (minus 4 since I haven't played it):

ODST
Reach

I enjoyed the overall adventure of Halo 2 the most. It was always just non-stop fun for me. The Scarab fight, Brutes, dual wielding, the Arbiter levels, etc. Experiencing it all for the time made it not just the best sequel of the series, but my favorite installation. It really expanded on everything and gave me the same feeling I had when I played the original CE campaign. The top three are all close ones. ODST is close because it created the unique atmosphere and explorable city that's never been done in Halo before or after. I don't know about a sequel, but I'd love to see the same concept reimagined in another part of the Halo universe.

For MP, I adored Reach. The best of the bunch for my tastes. It added all my favorite elements of Halo into one package, but expanded on it. The class based inspired MP, the cool new modes, Invasion will stand as one of my favorites, customizable spartans, great co-op, the greatly improved custom map maker/theater, and just a solid engine overall to make some beautiful environments. It was pure bliss for me and the tip top height of what Halo MP can be. Everything felt so balanced to me in all the right ways. Not just my favorite Halo MP, but my favorite MP on the 360. Great times.

I still put 3 as best in the campaign. 4 is second to it.

The only real problem is, much like in reach, a lack of large (meaningful) battles. They'd have some with A.I. banshees and falcons fighting you could see like, 40 miles away, but it was all just fluff. Halo 3 had most every man and vehicle on the ground, in the area.

Which is sad, since the tech only got better with reach and especially 4. I remember reading that a lot of reach was supposed to be focused on infantry, but 4 is a real missed opportunity. They can have so many enemies coming at you, but the environments this is used in doesn't really utilize them well, though I believe this is partly due to hardware limitations. All of it spent on textures rather than size.

Which is why I'm so very much looking forward to 5. The tech, hardware, and ideas are all there. I know they won't let me down.
