The Initiative’s Perfect Dark

I still wish they'd make a superhero game with the same graphical style as CD3 on the new consoles but add destruction etc that doesn't require online. That tech demo of a MP mode they made was worthless, the bones of CD3's campaign were good it was just missing a few things.
Yeah, that tech demo was neat, but clearly impractical. I wish they would do CD4 with a more narrow focused SP only.

My cautious optimism for this game grows more caution and less optimism every time another dev leaves. I don't think I've ever seen this many departures from a company when everything is going well.

The team was already very small before CD came onboard, they never were close to a full dev team. We'll see, I really don't think this IP is worth bringing back anyway though, they already have enough exclusive shooters, they should be coming up with new IP IMO.

I agree, a new IP would've been much better use of this studio and the talent it had brought in.

The most recent thing I heard via a Podcast this weekend was that The Initiative was started to be a unique, non-traditional, no crunch studio, which is why many of the core devs joined. They thought they were going to be lower profile, but the public perception was that they were going to be a big time AAA studio. Ultimately the pressure of public perception won out when Perfect Dark was assigned to The Initiative. As a result, many of the founding group decided to peace out as it simply wasn't what they signed up for and Crystal Dynamics has at the same time stepped in.

However, the Podcast also had some insight from some still at The Initiative and the feeling is that they are actually in a better place now and they still have high hopes for the game.

So I guess we will see. I think the game is still expected in 2025 potentially, so still time to sort it out.

I am pretty sure Phil asked the original The Initiative which game would they like to make even from existing IPs. They chose Perfect Dark, not MS.

🤷‍♂️

Didn’t they state it in one of their videos that they, the initiative devs, chose PD….not only out of the list of IP they have or a new IP?

My guess is the initial team, that had an up on running game, like it (PD) but when new people leads got brought on they may have been put off by it?

Next thing? Fantastic 4 or is he doing something else or is he referring to the initiative doing something else as well?

Sounds to me like he's just saying he has his next job / employment lined up. I don't know what Fantastic 4 has to do with anything though, is that something the Initiative is rumored to be working on?

My bad, lame joke for “new thing”

But what if the initiative decides to find another team so they may lead that in a new or diffeeent IP, they could just lay out the ground rules and let said studio do their thing.
