The Last of Us Part 2 - New Trailer Contains Spoilers

It's just a patch that unlocked the framerate how much do they really have to announce? Why tell people in advance? the game has been out for almost a year (damn time flies) so I doubt it was going to be a big selling feature at this point.
Just because you can't be sure what they are up to in regards to possibly reselling it as a PS5 version. Some transparency wouldn't kill them.

Why assume they were going to though? too many people online just make things up and then run with it, why chase that stuff down? They've never mentioned doing anything with TLOU2 on PS5 so even this patch that unlocks the framerate was a nice surprise but telling people about it ahead of time wouldn't do anything but lead to people complaining about having to wait.

I know TLOU remastered came out about 13 months after the original game on PS3 but only a few people actually worked on the remaster, I think any upgrades that take real advantage of the PS5 would probably need more investment and that would also mean they would likely have to charge for it and we know how well the online community would take that lol.

They could easily let it be known at any point that a PS5 version wasn't happening. Its not about assuming its about their lack of transparency so you don't know.

I guess they wanted to make it more like a pleasant surprise.
I think Sony marketing should have released a statement confirming this a few weeks ago. Right now, I think Sony shouldn't let up and keep gamers minds on their games while MSFT continues to gobble up significantly good PR with its moves. Its a long game and one that will play out for years to come. I think Sony needs to remain aggressive with its marketing to counter their competition.

But knowing about framerate boost now and the fact that the game will be on sale again is good news regardless. I've yet to play this sequel but really enjoyed the first game. So now's a good time to see what all the hoopla was about surrounding this game.

Dude, it's Sony. You can't paint it in a negative light no matter how much commonsense you use with him.

I agree with this. Then again, us gamers can be pretty demanding. :)

Going through NG+ now to try and collect/upgrade everything for the platinum.

This game is buttery smooth in 60fps. Still one of the best games out there in terms of the production value, graphics, animations, storytelling, the whole package basically whether you agree with the storyline or not.

I just don't know why you expect transparency about a version of a game that was never announced, why announce 5 months ahead "we are going to put out a patch to unlock the framerate we just don't know when"? Maybe they had explored other options and just decided this was the best choice.

For all we know they still could do a PS5 version that will release alongside the remake of the first game (if that's a real thing) as well as new MP. If that's the case it's probably not coming this year so no need to talk about it until they are ready to. Jason Schreier is a dick for constantly announcing games before the people that work on them do btw.

I definitely think that is a possibility and them trying to get people to double dip is also not something people should be ok with.

No res change, only fps? And not even flawless fps lol
Hey, at least the FPS is improved for a smoother experience.

And Returnal has shown us that the native resolution isn't the whole story and that with clever techniques even a lower resolution can look extremely clean and detailed.

Quantum Break did that as well and looked extremely clean and detailed, but it was SHREDDED by the usual suspects because the native resolution started low.

But I agree, it's good they improved the FPS. I am gonna try to resume this game Sunday. I was working on Godfall last night. I am about 2/3rds done with that.

I'm playing through NG+, I have not felt any drops at all since I started. I'm about 3-4 hours in now from the beginning.

Sure, but considering the supposed difference in power, that's strange.. maybe there's something to it, too many games having trouble with res on ps5 at this point.

QB looked horrible on base hardware imo, the one X cleared that up though.

Aren't all BC games the same res as the Pro versions?

Idk, if so, that's very strange for such a presumed power difference.

PS5 is downlocked to PS4/Pro at the hardware level to run the old games because of its BC system. Surprised you didn't know this.

These end of the last gen games still look great. Double the frame rate and speedier loading times is pretty awesome for Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima. I can't wait to see what we finally get for the next gen patch on Doom Eternal. Even on last gen systems, those 3 games still hold their own pretty well to my eyes against a lot of what we've seen so far with next gen.

Pretty much confirms that the PS5 is just running the native PS4 pro code with unlocked fps to 60.

Really is pretty crazy what ND did for TLoU 2 with just the base PS4 spec at 1.84tflops.

Can't wait to see what an exclusive Ps5 will look like in their hands with significantly more power in the new console.

If Ratchet is a next gen baseline of what to expect then I will be very happy with how this gen will unfold.

Naughty's Dog "Inside the Details" company motto relayed in their games.

Here's some of it in motion - the realistic animations, how interior lighting drastically changes for every step they take with the torch on, the way every shader interacts with your presence, the physics, the real-time global illuminations in every part of the game:

I'll put spoilers in case some people haven't played it and don't want to see some of the environments before playing it for the first time.

how you interact with the environments

Volumetric shadows on/under water

Vegetation interactions

TLOU2 60 fps patch seems to have introduced more bugs and made pop-in worse

NXGamer talked a bit about this in his analysis. Basically said the last gen game logic sometime breaks down showing animation glitches and the 60fps may make some of the hardware limitations on last gen more apparent than playing at 30fps.
