The Legend of Zelda, the Wii U and change.

Summary of the Zelda Wii U Map Analysis
Here is a quick overview of everything we’ve learnt about Zelda Wii U based on information from the gameplay map:

  • Zelda Wii U is huge. It will take over 1hr 14mins 30s to cross the entire map (corner to corner) on horseback. In real life this would be the equivalent of travelling 54.6km
  • Death Mountain, Zora’s Domain and Lake Hylia all appear to be present on the map
  • The southern section of the Zelda Wii U map matches up with Zelda 1’s map
  • There are two different depths of water. Link should be able to cross lakes, rivers & parts of the sea.
  • Link may have access to a boat or other water crossing equipment.
  • Zelda Wii U may have towns/villages and possibly smaller settlements.
  • Link may potentially be able to set up his own camp (if the map icon does not depict a small settlement).
  • Spectacle Rock may be making a reappearance, this time in the form of a lake.
  • Link may be able to travel across the deeper parts of the sea to reach isolated islands and/or shallow areas.
  • Some areas may only be accessible by following specific paths or during certain points in the game.
  • Zelda Wii U may feature a village within a lake or alternatively a swamp-like lake with varying water levels.
  • There is a mysterious black dot on the west of the map. This could be Ganondorf’s hide-out or a Twilight portal.
There isn’t a defined border on the southern edge of the map. Suggesting that Link can go further south, possibly in a future update.

That size can't be accurate. I believe it takes 30 minutes to WALK across Skyrim on foot. Even the Witcher 3 doesn't look so big as to take an hour to cross on horseback.

If it does I want Link's motorcycle from MK8.

Agree, cant imagine the map is that large. What I really want to know is how large is Links wallet going to be ?

The game does look awesome, but looking at that map (if it's the whole thing) doesn't support that.

Here is a full-screen discussion of that footage

Aonuma hopes to bring Hyrule Warriors battles to Zelda Wii U

Hyrule Warriors released for the Wii U in September of last year. The title is a unique collaboration of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda and Koei Temco’s Dynasty Warriors. Unlike battles in previous Zelda titles with bosses hiding in enclosed areas, they are mobile in Hyrule and can move around the map. This is a quality that Aonuma took a shine to, and he said in a recent interview with RGJ that he hopes to bring it to the upcoming release of the latest Zelda adventure this year.

”One aspect of Hyrule Warriors that really left a big impression on me was how the big bosses can actually move across the map while you’re fighting them,” Aonuma told RGJ. “For example, you can have a boss start by heading toward your stronghold and you’ll attack and then follow them. That’s something you don’t usually see in a Zelda game because bosses are usually in enclosed spaces so that kind of gameplay feels fresh to me. It also works really well in an expansive world, which is what we’re planning to do for the next Zelda game.”
