I know games like Dota 2 and League of Legends never gained much traction here at the Union, but I wanted to see if people were willing to give this game a shot seeing as it's been described as the MOBA for people who don't like MOBA's (Annndyyyy).

I played 500+ hours of Dota 2 and consider it one of the best games ever made. However, I stopped playing for a few reasons.

1) At 500 hours, I still considered myself a novice. Reaching competent or advance status felt near impossible.

2) In some games, roughly 25%, you would know the outcome of the match during the first 15 minutes. Then you'd have to play the remaining 30 minutes thinking "Come on let's get this over with already." Which leads to my next point.

3) Games were too long. Many matches would go north of an hour.

4) Last hitting, while not as big of a barrier to entry as many suggest, was never satisfying to me. It took a significant portion of my brain to execute last hits at a reasonable rate. Combine this with getting harassed or ganked my decent competition and it just wasn't fun.

It sounds like all of those complaints of mine have been fixed in Heroes of the Storm. So, are any of you who have tested the MOBA waters before going to give this a shot?

Blizzard Jokes About Heroes of the Storm Coming to Xbox One
By Saqib Mansoor / 7 hours agoShareTweet

Some Blizzard employees have apparently been experimenting with an Xbox One version of Heroes of the Storm. However, according to the developer this is just colleagues having fun with their time, and officially, it’s still a no for the game to be coming over to consoles.

“Basically does not exist. But I know that some colleagues have been experimenting, trying to slap the game into an Xbox. Walking around the offices, from time to time, I happen to someone caught with its pad in hand, trying to play. But there is no,” was the statement given during a meeting between Multiplayer.it and the game’s Senior Artist Phil Gonzales.

Compared to Diablo III, a port of Heroes of the Storm would be a pretty big challenge for Blizzard to overcome. The MOBA genre has specific obstacles when it comes to being played on a controller.

The camera issue, for one, will have to be sorted out. Not every one is a fan of a fixed camera in a MOBA game, and neither does every in-game character benefit from the camera feature.

However, if Blizzard does manage to somehow port over the game to the Xbox One, its user base is going to shoot up over night. Not to mention that the game’s microtransaction model will be generating a large amount of revenue for the developer.

It's like a MOBA-lite.

This game is maybe slightly better than that terrible Marvel MOBA; that's about it. GOME was better (on console, save for s*** updates/patching). But Smite does a much better job of making the gameplay accessible, while still retaining some depth; which is what they set out to do here.

I'd say Strife does what this game meant to do, but much better. I think Blizzard just went a little too far into the accessibility route here. Then again, I haven't played the game in about 7 months (or somewhere around there), but I didn't enjoy much about it.

I'm surprised more people haven't tried this out here. You'd think a community like this would be all over it for a variety of reasons...

1). It's free and it's made by Blizzard.

2). It's inarguably going to be the biggest game of 2015.

3). It represents drastic change in what multiplayer gaming has traditionally been the past 20 or so years (team deathmatch)

4). It's designed to be inviting.

5). It's all that's really come out this week.

What's wrong with you people. Be a part of the conversation for Christ's sake.

I also play Dota 2 as my main Dota style game. As of now, I have 1,613 hours currently according to Steam.

I've been playing Heroes of the Storm since the Alpha. The skill ceiling is too low for my liking, but I still think it's a fun game to play with friends who have no experience in the Dota style genre, or perhaps didn't like similar games in the genre. The matches are nice and short, and easy to pick up.

For the most part, I use HotS as a palate cleanser when I'm in a loss streak in other games.
