The Star Wars Episode VII Thread *DO NOT POST ANY SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD*

I'm bummed about the IMAX 3d situation here in the U.S. Only a handful of theaters are getting the full experience.

I don't think it will be close. This is going to be the biggest opening weekend, ever.

Also, 131 on Rotten and only four negs. lol@thosefourreviewers

Well it's playing on less theaters and its December. I think that's their rationale. I think it will beat it, but not by a ton. I could see $220M

This movie has already made over $100 million in pre sales alone, I don't see how it doesn't take the record.

I'm sure it takes the record but many theaters have shifted to pre pay your ticket and pick your seats beforehand. Going to the movie is not neccessarily showing up, figuring it out there, and fighting for a seat. I have to think this shift is showing up in pre sales.

Star Wars spoilers are popping up all over the place!

The movie was decent. Better than the prequel trilogy (which aint saying much) but it was literally JJ Abrams reinterpretation of A NEW HOPE. The film was also hampered down by its future sequel because the film felt like a marvel movie where you feel everything is a set up to another movie. The narrative doesn't hold on its own and the pacing issues didn't really help either.

The movie was FANTASTIC! Some people wouldn't know what a good movie looked like if it was coming after you with jaws open and tentacles wrapped around your body.

Connecting the OT was the entire POINT of this movie. Using plot devices were completely purposeful, with the idea of FATE being very prominent here. It also spins the series in a different direction, setting it free by the end credits. Fantastic! This is JJ Abrahms' best movie, by a long shot. In fact, I'd dare say that he was born to make this and bring balance to the force. So thankful that this happened!

I disagree with pretty much everything you wrote there. I think the pacing was perfect. It HAS to set up the next movie. Empire is regarded as the best SW movie by pretty much everyone, and it does the same thing, by end. That was the original SW sequel and this is the first new trilogy sequel. I also think not cramming every OT character into one movie for the sake of it was very wise.

$57 Million last night which counts towards Friday's total. Could be $120 Million dollar Friday when all is said and done.

A new hope could stand on its own and so can even the smallest characters. TARKIN actually had some presence and personality, everything in force awakens felt like a place mat and back drop. The pacing was shotty, it went from action set piece to action piece and the film never got to really breath. I mean the film was just filled with deus ex machinas floating around d just to keep the story moving forward. Problem with FA was that it was hampered down with its constant recalls to the original trilogy and just reusing the tropes were all familiar with without ever trying to put a new spin on it. The films villain suffered from anakin skywalker syndrome where he becomes a one dimensional mess acting out his agression. I mean this is par for the course with JJ Abrams so It's expected. But perfect pacing ...not even close.

Honestly, I was on the fence originally. Thinking it'd have the same feel as the originals. Goddamn was I wrong. The movie is amazing. The pace, the nostalgia, the characters. Alone it's better than all that came before it. Don't get me wrong, I love the O3, but it was a bit too slow for me, not enough action, too much dialogue and overall some of it felt like it dragged on. I'd rate them better than 1-3 though.

The movie is better than I thought it would be. It made me tear up with nostalgia.

Go see it, please.

Ah there's always somebody to crap on everybody's good times. Well done!
C'mon guy, I mention afew faults about the movie I'm accused of being a party pooper . I'm glad the movie didn't suck. Theres not enough liquor in the world to erase jar jar binks from my memory or undo OT trilogy bluray changes. Anything at this point is a step in the right direction. Although I'll say this I wish the Lucas Arts was it's own entity instead of being property of disney.

On the contrary I think Disney is the best thing to happen to Lucas Arts. BTW just saw the movie and I'm still blown away. Movie is amazing and I even shed some tears. Wasn't expecting that.
Bravo Abrams and cast. Bravo.

TFA is definitely better than Star Wars and Return of the Jedi, and it has a better direction than Empire, but I can't say for sure if I prefer Empire or TFA. There are things I really like about Empire, like the battle of Hoth and several Dagobah scenes, and then there are things I really like about TFA, like the pacing of Jakku sequence and the visual description of the force, and for now I can't say which one is better. One thing I know though, is that I like Rey, Finn and BB-8 a lot, which means TFA succeeded at having us pumped for the future of Star Wars.

No bro lol not even close. The reason why the movie wasn't awful was simply because Lucas and his yes men were out of the picture and kathleen kennedy. All Disney did was lay off ridiculous amounts of people, cancel good games in development and take the star wars license to EA , and start demanding yearly releases for star wars (oh yeah and erase the EU and rebrand it). SO essentially don't mean to be a negative nelly here but they're going to run it to the ground. Unless like Marvel, their film department becomes a whole separate beast all together. Lucasfilm had the money and resources to be self sufficient, why lucas decided to sell it to one of the biggest conglomerates in the world is still baffling. Creative expression will always be hampered by the Disney machine, I'm just preparing myself for the future disappointment even if right now we're at least enjoying Lucas being out of the picture.

Yup, this Star Wars was A FREAKING MAZING. Great story, great characters, great pace. It was right there with the originals and felt like a true Star Wars movie. I did enjoy the small mentions back to the original, which made the people in the theater roar, clap and laugh. Who would have though Star Wars could have been this good again.

I still remember going to Star Wars A New Hope on release day and how I felt that day after seeing it. All those feelings came back with Force Awakens. Everyone I have talked to can't praise the movie enough.

BTW, the headline says to use spoiler tags, and people are not using spoiler tags. Andy

I'm not a Star Wars fan, so I haven't been reading the thread, and I don't want to go back and read it. If you point out specific posts to me (PM if you'd rather keep it behind the scenes), I can investigate and correct it.
