The thread of stupid.

This was so weak. From the ball girls panic attack to their opponents demanding they be DQ’d. There was no ill intention and the ball girl is ridiculous.

wtf. They don't get fouls or points deducted in Tennis? Regardless, anything more than a warning is over board.

"So you had a panic attack because you were hit by a ball?"

- Yes.

"And what is your title?"

- .....ball girl

Here, you only tip if you're satisfied with both food and waiter, there's already a 10% service tax on dining out.
I do know that in Amerika (and many other countries) there's a different culture of tipping though... so idk how frowned upon it is if you skip tipping at restaurants.

Waitstaff routinely make less than $10 an hour. Yes, under $10 an hour. If they work an eight hour shift and don't get any tips, they routinely make a maximum of $80 PER DAY.

$7.25 is the minimum wage for waitstaff. Most republican states, if not all, are at that rate while most democratic states are above it.

Let's say someone makes an average of $15 an hour after tips for 40 hours a week. That's $2400 a month BEFORE taxes. After taxes, let's say it's $2100. Rent for the smallest of closets is $1000 a month. Electricity well say averages $100 a month for that small "apartment." That person is now at $1000 for food, medical, internet, car, gas, entertainment, clothing, other utilities, etc. Tell me how someone is supposed to afford living making that?

You’re basically forced to live at home or live with roomies. Living alone is almost impossible.

I see Republican voters all the time I know IRL on social media or local news comments say it’s people’s fault they can’t make it. Don’t work food, services, retail jobs get an education or a better career….. So f***ing stupid.

Don't forget that many low end jobs won't give you enough hours to work full time, and will just keep your hours at 30+ so that you don't get classified as full time and needing benefits. So, basically these people work 2 30-hour jobs and still can't make ends meet.

I'm GenX and I know how much easier we had it. I bought a house by myself right out of college. Back in the 90s, college was cheap and a no-brainer as far as bang for your buck. Now? That would be unheard of. I'm not even well off by any means, but relatively speaking, I'm doing amazing (which is why the economy is so f-d up).

Just look at the numbers, it is a simple fact and not a political opinion. Boomers look at "$15/hour" and that's double what I made when I was young, but now things cost 4x as much or more. I made $7, but had way, way more purchasing power. The boomers had it even better.

It isn't that young people don't want to work, it is that working won't get them any closer to the "American dream", which is just a dream. The only young people I know who do well came from family money.

Yet they want to be catered to at restaurants or stores and probably first to butch about using a Self Checkout. Or complain about restaurants being short staffed.

Boomers were supporting four person families off of jobs that required no college education. My parents bought their first home for $20K and it was a three bedroom ranch. Their view of reality is beyond skewed.

I’ve been on both sides of the fence. I got a degree many would consider worthless (just wanted to go to OCS and join the Marines, but unfortunately my injuries in 2013 prevented that) so I spent years after college making like … $8-12 per hour. I made it work but only because I had parents who could cover s*** for me when I needed it. My apartment was also only like $600 lol. Goddam times have changed.

But since like .. 2016 and especially after I got my Masters and started a career in analytics, I do pretty well for myself. I made shrewd moves and worked super hard to get here but also had some help.

So, certainly have sympathy for people stuck making low wages. There’s always a way out but it can be tough to find and it often takes a lot of time and effort. Long story short I almost always tip, and generously. Only if service was absolutely egregious would I not tip anything.

It's awkward because society does want services that require people doing these jobs to make it happen. I mean what if all people in this labor sector could rally and find great jobs and all quit for great careers then these jobs sit vacant?

I also think the number of low paying jobs far exceeds the number of good career jobs. The more advanced the career is or if it pays higher, there fewer there will be. I feel that sending a message that everyone at the bottom has a chance to move up is dishonest.
