I think I heard the arcade brand isn't being brought over in favor for just having xbox live games. We ultimately know the difference between XBLA and retail. So in general, what's been you faves, and what would you like to see out of the X1 xbox live games?
As we've seen XBLA grow, we've seen more ambitious and bigger budget projects be made, as opposed to the original format we saw during the original xbox and early days of the 360. We even have free to play games now. From what I see, MS wants to continue that growth. One of it's biggest launch titles is going to be Killer Instinct and it's gonna be an exclusive digital only game. Obviously that could change in the future, but when the Xbox One releases, the only way to get is off of Xbox Live. Along with it, Crimson Dragon plans to be available, and Twisted Pixel's new game, Loco Cycle, is another game going over to the X1. It'll be interesting to see how it goes, especially with the online presence in console gaming simply getting bigger and bigger.
Personally, some of my favorite games this gen have been in the 2D side scrolling genre. Whether they were in the form of 3D characters and environments like Splosion Man or true 2D like Castle Crashers. I'd love to see 2D games continue to have a place in the nexgen and maybe see how big a budget can get for a modern 2D game. The Rayman games have been nothing short of fantastic, and I'd love to see this genre expand in some format. Especially if we get it in the form of 2D graphics like Rayman. To me, that's always been the advantage of 2D games. Cel shading is fantastic and unique in it's own way, but it's no replacement for true illustrations. Part of me wishes the genre would be big and popular enough to warrant a Disney-esque type of budget. Rayman Origins was exactly what I always wanted to see out of the genre and to see the growth of it would be awesome in my opinion.
