So basically if devs use this feature on MMO/Massive open world games, they could potentially look better on X1 then PS4?
it's not a be all end all solution but the best way to put it is in certain circumstances ps4 will look better and x1 in others. Just depends on the devs just as it is this current Gen. Both systems are powerful and both have trade offs.

ESRAM is harder to work with than cell was when the ps3 was first released and lacked decent SDK support.

Where did you get this from? 360 was way easier than ps3 and it had edram. Now a similar setup is harder than ps3 because of esram? Ok thanks

Parody of GAF and ppl going out of their way to find flaws on one system but refuse to see the blatant ones about the console of their choice.
that was my reply, take that whole post with a /s

I'd like to see GAF dispute the tiling..since it was shown on screen at BUILD lol.
"GDDR5 is more suited for tiled resources, if Microsoft can do 3GB of textures in 16mb then Sony can do 3TB with the 8GB GDDR5...bc it's twice the efficiency of what Microsoft can do and it's GDDR5" something along those lines...it'll be used to debunk everything BC it'll be considered real math and factual

LOL probably in their eyes yeah, never mind that the tiling at BUILD was showing using DX11.2

they'll use the that one Sony chart that says dx11.2/OpenGL to say Sony has dx11.2 (which would never happen, Ms has historically never allowed dx on non Ms products)

Then we can rub it in that the PS4 has to use MS tech to look purdy :p
was just going through the dr3 thread about procedurally created zombies and hand crafted world so buildings won't be the same and some of the first page comments are "bulls***"...idk how ppl can't just think it's cool, I'm getting x1 first but rly wanna play resogun and infamous BC they both look amazing

Link to the thread? would be funny to read.

I am not accepting this, according to one anonymous dev(who possibly has never worked on the x1) ESRAM is harder to work with than cell was when the ps3 was first released and lacked decent SDK support. Microsoft obviously doesn't know what they're doing and have moneyhatted Giant Bomb into doing a goos article. Also Microsoft themselves said x1 supports DX11.1+(the plus means Glide, from the 90s, Ms only uses ancient techniques).

Damn for a second I thought that I visited GAF by accident :D

BTT Awesome news - can't wait to see this implemented in the first games :) State of Decay II or huge open world Halo anyone?

they're saying they'll run out of combinations quickly so I decided to do some basic math, lets say they have 10 different textures per part. So limbs, shirts, pants, mouth, nose, eye, eye(zombies rmr), ear, ear, hair = 10 items and total combinations = 10billion...honestly they would use way more then 10 so not seeing the same zombie configuration twice is quite possible but not completely unlikely. GAF makes it seem like it'll happen often.

There seems to be some people who think it's cool, or might just be cautious about it.. while others are just close minded and trying to downplay things that are 'competitor products'

yeah it's refreshing to see the ppl that are open minded about it on gaf, but I'm seeing more closed minded then on the fence or open

Same, that place really has fallen quite a bit this year from what it once was.,,it's like watching Gamespot/GameFAQ's go down
I honestly have been going there for entertainment when I'm bored and can't watch videos(ie in public)

There was a thread on teamxbox where I believe sylonious posted pics from DR3 that showed the fireman zombies, 4 of them in the pic and there were only 2 models, it was two sets of twins. So either they are exaggerating about never seeing the same zombie or they have changed something since those pics they released were put out. I don't think anyone is really going to go looking for duplicates anyway and as long as they can mix it up enough so you don't just see the same 2 zombies in a group of 10 I think that's probably good enough.

Great thread. With the the power of the cloud the sky's the limit for what the Xbox One will be able to pull off.

New DF article. X1 to give devs access to system reserves of GPU cycles. That'll put the GPU at the full 1.312Tflops presumably, compared to PS4 which is 1.435Tflops but which has similar system reserves (~10%). Ruh roh...

Also, DF has much more to say from MS's engineers. Some of it is enticing. :D

We'll be publishing the entirety of our interview with the Xbox One architects this weekend, covering off topics including the Xbox 360 post-mortem, Microsoft's approach to GPU compute, the innovative approach to virtualisation, the choice of CPU architecture and much, much more. Over 7,500 words in total, and essential reading for anyone interested in the technological make-up of Microsoft's next-generation console.

Coming this weekend. This weekend should be fun.

Add to OP please.

@astrograd whaddaya say about the new DF article?

I'll offer some thoughts later. Seems all good stuff though (more power for devs, flexibility on fillrate management, well considered balances). For now, I gotta go teach youngins about friction.

Add the following. Discusses more about rendering and how GPU uses two concurrent rendering pipelines.

Supposedly, the full set of DF X1 technical articles are being released over the weekend.
also Microsoft pretty much said graphical fidelity >>> resolution...which I def agree with

@JinCA as long as it's not like dr1 or dr2 where you're just killing the same zombies over and over. Will be really noticeable if there are 50 of the same zombie in a stack of 100
