Sports is different. Even though something like football has similar kinds of athletes as wrestlers.... big, strong agile etc..... wrestling is an act that requires loud guys with charisma, faking it to hurt people, often times getting really hurt and bleeding due to mistakes, and an overall attitude of good guys vs. bad guys like it's WWIII.It was comical to hear claim to want the right people and not people with criminal records when wrestling is filled with the worst kinds of people
Won't work. Especially when Vince said he doesn't want to treat this like minor leagues. It really just all comes down to this... will people support a second league? I like to think in the beginning there will be curiosity. However, as is the case with pro wrestling, people have a fascination with the "big" league. Anything less will be trashed on no matter the quality. It's funny how Vince McMahon is trying to do what wrestling fans have been hoping for since WCW last closed down. A mainstream competitor. Personally, I don't think it'll work. People have hard habits to break, but you never know. There might be enough people who are genuinely interested in the XFL to make it profitable long term and give it enough media attention where it becomes an alternative for die hard football fans. I certainly hope they succeed, but there's no telling what barriers the NFL will put up to prevent them from growing.
I would say that the way he handles his business and relationship with Trump would give him a more conservative leaning than liberal. Nothing I've seen from him suggests otherwise. This is the same company that once had healthcare for the pro wrestlers and then one day took that away as a means to increase profits. Wrestlers have to pay out of pocket for their own healthcare, which is supposed to insanely expensive for them due to their profession, for obvious reasons. It's arguably the most injury prone business on the planet.I think it may be the opposite. Vince doesn't strike me as a conservative or really giving a crap about politics at all.
We'll see, plans can change. It really depends on whether or not he wants the company to survive, if they fail to be a major league, or sink because it doesn't meet his expectations. I'm inclined to believe you though. Remember, this is the guy who once started a f***ing bodybuilding league. Got Lex Luger out of that deal I suppose. Maybe that's his real hope, to find the next big star that isn't from the indies or Japan.Won't work. Especially when Vince said he doesn't want to treat this like minor leagues.
When it comes to pro leagues, US and Canada want one pro league. Of course, every sport has minor leagues, college sports, NBA has a D-league etc.... and they can all survive. But people know those aren't going toe to toe with the NFL or NHL and such, so they can be supported with smaller stadiums, cheaper ticket prices, and $0 or very low player salaries.
Now if Vince wanted to make a NFL B-league where where the focus and message is second rate football at family friendly prices, then that may work..... which I still doubt.
But if Vince is going to gung ho it like it's the NFL's twin brother, people will laugh and not bother even if a family of 4 can watch a game for $80.
LOL. Never knew that. I had to Google it.We'll see, plans can change. Fair catch rule is lame. But I get why it's there. But hey ya had to love that the first XFL started with a no fair catch rule. Nothing boosts ratings like someone getting decapitated returning a punt.
Kick returners don’t see the people until after they catch the ball. They’re focused on the ball. A quarterbacks job is to not put his receiver into a position where he gets hurt. Safety’s don’t have a 60 yard full out sprint to hit someone. They’re always within 10 yards. Big hits on receivers are a rareity.Fair catch rule is lame. But I get why it's there.
To me, it should have nothing to do with a player getting hit. But more about preventing a loose ball in play and the kicking team getting it.
When a QB throws a ball at a receiver, the opposing team can smack him as hard as he wants, assuming it's not before he touches it (pass interference). So if a safety can do a running charge and plaster a receiver at the same time he is trying to catch a ball, it's really no different. In fact, it's worse since many of these hits are blind sided. A kick returner can see players coming at him from one direction (usually from in front of him)
However, if he touches it the ball is live, compared to an incomplete pass from a QB.
What the NFL/XFL should do is 5 yard clearance like the CFL (and Arena football). No fair catch at all, but the punt returner gets 5 yards buffer zone when he catches it. From there, he can do what he wants when he catches it, as defenders are all trying to run at full speed to tackle him 5 yards out when he catches it.
And get rid of 2 minute warning. Never understood this rule. No other sport has refs purposely stopping the clock at a designated time. It slows the game down and gives the losing team a free chance for a breather and withhold using a timeout.
LOL. Never knew that. I had to Google it.
Give McMahon credit for being a businessman and trying new things, but I don't see a second rate pro football league being successful in the US.
With the NFL and NCAA football, I don't see the need for another football league, especially one that is trying to go up against the NFL.
Edit. Forgot about Arena football too.
NFL D league is the NCAA. They also have various practice squads. The NBA, NHL, and MLB have professional development leagues after college.
The XFL isn't looking to overthrow the NFL. It's looking to be the NFLs D League.
Then Vince must be lying for sake of PR.The NBA, NHL, and MLB have professional development leagues after college.

"One thing we are not is a development league for the NFL," McMahon said.
Arena Football isn’t NFL d league. Neither would the XFL be. If you’re not on a practice squad you’ll never make an NFL team. XFL will be like it was before, people who are not good enough to play professionally. College is the NFL prep league. Always has been and always will be.No, I'm talking about development leagues for players once they graduate from college.
The MLB has the Minors. The NHL has the AHL. The NBA has the D League (now the G League thanks to Gatorade). These leagues are all post collegiate and have official relationships with their big league equivalents.
Practice squads in the NFL are not the same thing.

G league is for players that were drafted and sent down or for rehabbing an injury. Nearly never does someone go undrafted and make it to the NBA. If you’re in the G league, you’re pretty much not good enough to make it in the NBA. Also, the NBA has a far smaller roster. Their practice squad is the 15 that are on the roster.
And I’m saying it would never, ever, be.Right, what I'm saying is that I think Vince would love to be the NFLs D League in 5 to 10 years.
And I’m saying it would never, ever, be.
Vince has put in $100m of his own money into this
I don't deny he's a good businessman, although to quote the late great Roddy Piper, "The only job you've ever been able to keep is the one your daddy gave you!"Give McMahon credit for being a businessman and trying new things, but I don't see a second rate pro football league being successful in the US.
All sports and entertainers are full of problem people as people have problems including YOU.Off the top of my head
Jimmy Snuka killed a woman. Vince helped him get away with it
Fabulous Moola pimped out other women wrestlers
Stone Cold Steve Austin was a wife beater
Hulk Hogan is a racist
They have an award they give out named after the Ultimate Warrior who was a complete homophobe
They have plenty of wrestlers with criminal records which is fine but those same wrestlers wouldn't be good enough for the XFL?
Supporting the Guardians.XFL rocks, and I'm going to a DC Defenders game in March when they play the St. Louis Battlehawks. Will post pics
