Titanfall 2 MP tech test 8/19

I played a match in Bounty Hunter and had fun. But just as others have said the Pilot movement needs to be faster and the lack of Attrition is utter BS. Respawn better make some changes fast!

I read an article on Game Informer that was a editorial that said are spawn should delay TF2. The writer was making it is in a really tough fall release line up and would most likely be forgotten quickly with all the competition.

Does the board think far as the gaming community goes this Tech Test has been a big failure?

It appears that most people who played TF1 a lot are disappointed. I'm at Gen 9 almost 10.

I don't think a delay will help much. The game is just different. The maps don't have the same flow, they're all circular now with the outside wide open and little to know ways for a pilot to get across the map without touching the ground, in the beta at least. The games modes favor camping and directing everyone down the same paths. The Titan mechanics favor needing teammates to survive or killing the flow by getting out your titan to get a battery. Not all necessarily bad things, just not what I want from Titanfall.

Wow. Those points are pretty damning. So I guess they are making some changes based on feedback.

I am still baffled by the lack of attrition. Why would you remove your most popular mode?

I'm hoping attrition is a mode in the final release. We don't know for sure it's gone. It's certainly been speculated alright. For me that might end up being the final decision maker. If it's gone I'm unlikely to buy this. If it's there, despite all its short comings I might be convinced to buy it

Completely agree, the game is just designed to be different than Titanfall rather than better. A delay isn't going to change much at all.

Here's hoping Titanfall 3 gets it back on track!

Man, what is with the match making? I've played 7 games tonight, and I've come in when the match is almost over in all of them. We are always either way ahead, or way behind. Not too much fun either way.

Also, their score board and after action reports suck. They don't show how many titans you've killed, don't show how many grunts or specters you've killed, how.many deaths you've had, nothing. Just how manu kills you got, you score and bonus score. Titanfall 1 gave you alot more info

Played it a little more today, it's a fun game and I like how the opponents aren't bullet sponges the way they are in so many other shooters. I think the titans can be a bit underwhelming to play as, not that they are bad but I just would expect a little more toughness from what is basically a walking tank. There were a few times today where I called down my titan and an enemy was able to climb on board before the shield was down and I was able to get going, that seems a bit silly to me.

I'm so disappointed by this. The game feels like a downgrade to the first Titanfall in every way outside of graphics. I can't remember the last time in which I've been so disappointed by a sequel to a game I loved.

Got some play time in this weekend, and I must say, the game is extremely fun. I am with JinCA on the lack of bullet sponges. It's nice to be able to take down a multiplayer person with just a couple bullets vs. spraying them. I love the updated UI, and everything feels so natural. It always seems like you are just going going going so fast in this game, but it never gets tiring. Sometimes I get bummed as rounds come to an end because I was just getting in my groove. I am just glad they stuck to the TF formula and made some improvements.

What? They didn't stick to the TF formula at all.

Lower TTK, s***ty map design with "lane" mentality like cod, less verticality, "Hero" Titans instead of customization, dumbed down Titan v Titan and Titan v pilot gameplay, and worst of all, completely f***ing up the parkour mechanics of the first because of the optional grapple hook.

They stuck to the CoD formula and moved it towards Titanfall, only issue being the last 3 CoD games have been moving toward the Titanfall formula also. Pissed off and alienated the fans that spent hours upon hours playing the first chasing a market that isn't going to choose this game over Infinite Warfare.

Fall for the troll bait, did you, hhmm? *best yoda voice*

I actually think the TTK is about the same as it was in Titanfall, but the problem comes from the weapons being so accurate and having no recoil.

Am I crazy or is Pilots v. Pilots actually fun?!
I also thought the pilot v pilot mode felt the most at home to the tweaked gameplay mechanics and I am a massive fan of the original. I won't be buying Titanfall 2 for that exact reason, but wouldn't it be ironic if it turns out the most popular mode in the new game turns out t be the one with zero titans in it.

Played some more today and I'm done. not going to bother playing a bit more before the servers shut down.

Overall, TF2 is a good game. But I agree with some of the issues people have.

Although we haven't seen all the content, modes and tweaks, some things that need improvement:

- Titans need more durability. They get destroyed too fast. If there's going to be no shields, then boost titan health 50%. I understand the dev saying they implemented batteries to add a level of complexity and teamwork, but as a fast paced shooter, I don't think gamers care much about running around a large map, picking up green icons and then jumping on a teammate titan to boost him. TF is supposed to be a faster played shooter more about speed and shooting then a shooter where you have support classes like medics or engineers repairing tanks

- TF is an old school shooter.... would be good if it had some kind of bullet penetration. Not asking for full CoD levels of penetration, or BF destruction, but having to directly hit an enemy even though you see him through some glass is kind of weird as many shooters have progressed in environmental gameplay

- These 3 maps are way too big for Hardpoint (6 vs 6) and Pilot vs Pilot (8 vs 8 ). Either adjust the maps to be smaller for these modes, or boost the MP count to let's say 10 vs 10 or even 12 vs 12. Playing these modes on these maps with 6 vs 6 or 8 vs 8 can get very empty. Bounty Hunt could be boosted to 6 vs 6 or 8 vs 8 too, but that mode has AI bounties every minute so it doesn't feel as empty

- We haven't seen all the gun attachments yet, but it looks like each gun has 8 slots. Going by the unlocks so far, they mostly seem all the same for all guns.... more ammo, fast draw, shoot while sprinting etc....

- Guns are too accurate. Excluding sniper rifles which are supposed to be very accurate, ARs, LMGs, SMGs and shotguns all have decent range and little recoil. An LMG (which I used) should not be able to pick off enemies across the map, but I can. I'd say that out of every shooter franchise I've played.... TF guns are overall the most accurate/least recoil... and I thought CoD games were the most dumbed down

- That shotgun that shoots a burst of horizontal bullets is overpowered. The cone is large, and it's MW2 dual 1887 range. Either nerf the spread or distance or both

- I can live with the slower gameplay and snipers, but as a TF game it does seem weird to have so many snipers. If this was a BF game I can understand it, but TF is supposed to be a fast paced sci-fi game with fast movement, wallrunning and titans. Having let's say 2 snipers on each team (out of a team of let's say 6), makes the gameplay more like 4 vs 4 run and gun + 2 vs 2 snipers. Nothing makes a game feel more empty than making maps too big for the player count. What happens is 1. Too much real estate + 2. Gamers notice this so they sit back and snipe more

- The escape ship takes too much damage to kill. Almost seems impossible.... I played maybe 50 or so matches, and saw the escape ship destroyed probably 3 times

Love em or not, let's face it. The almighty Call of Duty $$$ are always in every devs bullseye. And in 2016, it still holds true. That's why TF2 seems CoD-ish.

EA has been trying to "CoD it" for a decade... MOH, Crysis 3-5-7 killstreaks, BF getting CoD-ish, TF more CoD-ish.... all theior shooters always come out 2-3 weeks befor CoD.

Maybe Respawn isn't to blame. but EA management telling them to make the game this way. Who knows.

I thing TF2 has lower TTK. In TF1, I used the standard AR everyone has at level 1. I think it takes about 6 bullets to kill. In TF2, it's more like CoD... 3-4 bullets.

Using the Spitfire LMG, the TTK is exactly like any standard CoD LMG... 3-4 bullets.

It seems to go their weird design choices with this game. I saw a video where someone from Respawn said the AI was annoying. Now I was no fan of the AI but annoying? Very odd word to use plus its part of what makes Titanfall Titanfall.

Its understandable but when you look at Destiny and Overwatch which are arguably the two biggest non COD shooters of the gen they didn't just try to be COD. Its hard to think of any series that has benefited from trying to be more COD.

That is a weird design choice. Attrition was played the most. I think the biggest knock about TF1 AI grunts is how dumb they were. The grunts/spectres in TF2 have better AI logic. They scramble and take cover better instead of just standing in a group.

So if anything, Attrition in TF2 should be a tad better with smarter AI grunts.

Matchmaking has been perfect for me. I'm in a match in less than ten seconds on xbone.
Yeah if anything its 2 fast as I barely have enough time to customize my new loadout unlocks.

Game is great much better than the 1st but some maps do need work any in its Alpha form gametypes are missing that I'm sure will be in the finished game.

Not sure if you played the 1st game cause it has cod all over it.

I disagree.

When TF1 launched it was very unique. Only real COD comparison is that they are both fast paced shooters. The competing COD that year was Call of Duty Ghosts, and those two games were nothing alike. It wasn't until late the same year that Advanced Warfare hit and bought with it some similarities, but even then the differences between the two games is vast.

Gen 10 with nearly 6.5-7 days of game time.

Played the hell out of the first.

I mean, sure there are similarities. Both are FPS. Both are made by the people that kickstarted the modern CoD in 2007.

Outside of that, speed, mobility, map design, titans, etc were much different than any CoD imo.

The shooting mechanics in TF1 were very similar to COD (obviously with Respawn doing them) but I wouldn't call them similar beyond that.
