Tom Clancy's XDefiant - Launches This Summer, Play The Open Session June 21-23

Played a few games and I quite enjoyed it. I really the speed it plays at. The TTK seems decent enough but there were a few questionable one hit kills on me. I also got briefly spawn trapped on one map but that seemed like something that wouldn’t really happen with the speed the game plays at.

Snipers are OHK it seems. You may not have noticed getting killed by one while fighting.

I tried for a few hours last night only got into one match. It seemed decent enough. Is this going to be free to play or a fully priced game?

Had some major lag issues earlier. Hopefully that won’t be a thing for the rest of the beta

Considering some of the games that did get a pass and are still on the store. How bad was this for both MS and Sony to fail it.

If I were them, I'd delay until closer to the holiday or even spring. Wait for people to get the usual COD burnout. Going head to head with COD is not going to end well.

I worry that even if they get out a month before, COD is just going to drain players.

Wait until the spring when COD fatigue and buying regret is at an all time high.

Or are their engines like UE5 more graphically intensive than originally thought 🤔
More like not optimized, it’s cool tech but devs have yet to take advantage or go beyond what has been lead to believed with what’s possible. There hasn’t been a game using ue5 that makes anyone go wow “this is next level…this is the future” w since it’s release.

You’d think it’d be more commonly used by first parties that have the license to it. The only one, off the top of my head, that may take advantage of it is the coalition, since many of their devs are ex epic/ue. And as much as Sony has invested in it I can’t recall any of their devs using it.

Sony devs use their own proprietary engine in Decima and it looks like it will stay that way because of how amazing it looks and it runs well on the PlayStation systems thus far. I believe Insomniac also runs their own engine?

Universal engines seems to be harder to optimize for or at least develop closer to the metal.

Oh I know, which has me asking why would Sony invest, partner up and license said engine if they’re not gonna use it or even promote it.

Yeah they should wait till early next year now. They should’ve launch over the summer when COD was in a slump.

Been little news on this. Ubisoft had an earnings call and mentioned games in the Jan - March timeframe, and xDefiant is at the bottom. So, maybe March?

What the hell happened to this game.

Had an open beta 8 months a go, a few issues aside, seemed on the cusp of releasing very soon after that open beta and then basically nothing for 8 months. Crazy.

Yeah it is very strange. They mentioned lots of networking issues that really weren't seen in the beta.

We assumed they were trying to not launch around COD/fall (which made sense), but why the additional delay?

I only played this a little, but it felt like it was ready to go last year.

It seems like the hype train was ramping up in a good way, and now it is just quiet. Maybe they are going to do a quiet launch? That doesn't seem to make sense though as I think you can hype it up now (there's not much else going on).

Maybe they want to wait until Helldivers cools down? I have no idea really. People are dying for a non-COD FPS game.

They would be smart to drop a new open beta at GDC and release mid April. The buzz will build quickly, assuming they didn't destroy it in the last 8 months.

It has been all quiet on the xDefiant front, which is probably not good. Tom Henderson mentioned that he'll have something at the end of the month. I can't imagine that report will be "All is well!!"

The weird thing is the beta was pretty damn good. A few bugs, a little balancing, and some footstep audio tweaks were all that was needed.

Yeah it is very strange, and not good to not communicate. Not that they officially said anything, but this was mentioned in an investors call for Q1.

I mean, good on them for getting the game right, but the lack of communication is really not good.

This is one of those cases where being honest is better than a wall of silence. Better to break the bad news yourself rather than have Tom Henderson do it.

Sadly I think it is just the trend of the higher ups at these companies not being any good at their jobs. The "wall of silence" is a very corporate way of burying heads in the sand.

Yeah, their last Tweet was like October. They aren't even holding playtests or anything as far as I can tell. Which, to me, implies they aren't close to releasing.

Just what did that last PC test highlight that required 6+ months of work and a total media blackout on a product that seemingly felt like it was ready to release. Just nuts.

One silver lining: Delta Force are back with a new shooter called Hawk Ops. More Battlefield-esque than arena shooter too. Will also be F2P.

Could 2024 be the year of the not COD shooter? Looks promising.
