Twitch hacked. Change passwords.

Yep, just got this email. I'm not even sure I know what my Twitch password was though.

Edit: Found it. Luckily, it's not the same password I use for all my other stuff, and I really needed to update this password anyway.

I'm not sure if I have a password. I link through my facebook.

Of course I just used a credit card on their for the first time a couple weeks ago. I think this is all from March 3 though so hopefully good. Either my CC is changing numbers soon anyways. Think I use the password on another site but it's nothing important.

Got an e-mail about this yesterday. Logged out of UVGF, and tried to log back in and my password had been changed. Luckily my old password wasn't used on anything important. Thanks for fixing it Plainview.

Yeah, it went down around 3PM EST yesterday and were urging users to change pw's.

I actually recently just started streaming on a daily basis playing mostly Destiny and sometimes the odd game here and there. Do people watch twitch streamers here?

Ugh, hackers never quit, do they? I do not have Twitch account, though. Hope nothing serious happen to anyone.

Salted and hashed passwords can be decrypted fairly easy and even used in their encrypted format.

Rubbish a properly salted and hashed password cannot be "decrypted easily" you need to brute force every single password due to the salt and brute forcing large cryptographically secure hashes is not viable.

Hell a hash cannot be "decrypted" at all its a one way function all you can is find one of the inputs that gives the same output as you want.

As in watching other people on the forums? I haven't watched anyone but also never see anyone at least on Xbox stream. Only person I really watch with regularity and subscribe to is Maximilian Dood for fighting games.

It is easy. Bit easy is subjective . I have a neat little perl script that can decrypt stash files in a few seconds. Its great for DSL renewal when you've forgotten the password. Have another for for cookies.

Whatever hash you are trying to brute force is s***.
Try cracking a Whirlpool hash and you'll be there for decades if not the heat death of the universe.

Try crack this:

f91bcfcd5386d5e872213934d1391abd6ddddefae6341b6a683535dbf7bd4118386587c2a67ca7882d89a4df389a3413b77971192b8cb83f7c5713c9f2cd613b

Its a Whirlpool Hash so tell me what it is.

I never commented on the type of security. I only said it was (subjectively) easy to get around. The perl script decodes IBM IHS ssl. Lol. Plenty of big vendors have terrible security.

No what you did is made a objectively false statement ("hash's are easy to crack") sure some are, but you have 0 chance of cracking the one I posted. Any sane company will use a real cryptographically secure hash that is probably going to take longer then the heat death of the universe.

I'm not talking about the one you posted. I'm talking about the thread topic and specifically, I commented on a post asking about hashed and Salted passwords saying they can be easy to break. Which they can be. You're saying good encryption makes it next to impossible, and yes, you're right. I'm in no way disagreeing with you.

It'd be great if you guys could come watch and support every once in a while :D
