Get Tracking Number and Call to Have Your Xbox One Be Held at Customer Service Center
Step 1:

  • Get your tracking number the night before.

At some point your tracking number will be released to you. Your xBox will almost certainly be quietly spending launch night at your customer service center waiting to go out the next morning to you. Get your tracking number and...
Step 2:

  • Contact UPS.
Make sure to specify you want the hold at a Customer Center, NOT a UPS Store. Some guy used a UPS Store and was inconvenienced. Don't be that guy.

You can call them through customer service or chat with them online.

Step 3:

  • Note where the hold is - at which Customer Service Center. Seems obvious, but hey this whole guide is pretty easy.

Step 4:

  • Locate Your Customer Service Center
https://www.ups.com/dropoff?loc=en_US&WT.svl=PriNav

Uncheck all boxes except for "Customer Service Center."

At 8:25A.M., be waiting outside your UPS Customer Service Center. Did you bring your ID? Bring your ID. Most open early at 8.30A.M., however some open later. Double check to be sure.

That's it. It's simple.

This has been confirmed to work in /r/PS4 after the console launch and holding packages is a normal part of UPS operation. If you used this guide, post on me below and let me know if it worked for you on launch day of delivery. I would like to hear how it worked for you!

Same here. My UPS guy is normally here at 11Am to 12PM.
Mine is either 12pm or 6pm. I attempted to change the address to my work about three weeks ago. They told me it could affect my shipping. I told them that makes no sense at all that it would push my delivery date out and it's asinine. So, I left it at my home address.

I have a flight to catch, have to leave my house at about 1:30PM or so.

UPS Customer Service Center is deep downtown, through one of the nation's worst rush hours...

Think I'll just chance it. I have 2 Xbox One's coming, and if one or the other aren't there by the time I leave I'll have a friend stop by my house that night.

I did a shift change at work to be home for the delivery. I'll be next to the my balcony's sliding window doors anxiously waiting for "True Greatness" to arrive.

I would actually consider doing this so I could have my console as soon as possible, but my service center doesn't open until 4:30 PM lol... I think it's mostly for people who missed a delivery and don't want to wait until the next day for UPS to stop by again.....

Wouldn't chance it. Got mine pre-ordered at my good Ol' GameStop. Wouldn't do this plan even if I had something coming in the mail. To sketchy.

I'm not sure I understand why this is sketchy or doing this is taking a chance. This is how UPS operates. You can ask them to hold a delivery at a location and you have to come pick it up. Am I missing something?

I did this with my PS4 last week and picked it up at 8:00AM. Was in and out within 2 minutes. Not sure what the chance is to take.

Not sure what the chance is to take.

Yeah I do this all the time with expensive stuff. Will do it for my X1 too. Whats the risk people are worried about? All you are doing is basically telling UPS not to put it on the truck.

The problem is you cannot guarantee which service center it will go to. For example there is a service center that is about 2 mi from my house and another one about 35 mi from my house. Depending on where the packages originates and how its sent (ground/air) it goes to either one.

Why is this an issue? Until you know which center it will get processed you risk actually delaying your shipment. For example if it is supposed to go to the service center that is 35 mi from my house Thursday night and delivered to my door Friday that is great. But if I call and ask for them to hold the package at the location that is 2 mi from my house they will take a full day to drive it to the closer location and process the package rather than just let it sit on the truck on its way to me.

I swear I remember seeing ppl having problems with this on another forum with their PS4s.

When you call them to hold your package, they tell you the location it's going to be held at. They also tell you the earliest time it can be picked up. I just did this, and I can pick up my console at 7:30am.

This is a no go for orders coming from Microsoft Store apparently.
