What's the point of following (and not be followed back) someone on Xbox?

Is it just out of interest in what someone is playing?

Yeah I was wondering this myself. All I can think of is like you said, see what they're playing. It also gives you a way to be "connected" to people without adding them to your friends. This saves you spots on your friends list. I most likely won't use this feature a lot.

I think I'll be following certain people who are considered the tops in certain games. I can see myself following Max since he'll be playing a lot of Killer Instinct. I can then snap videos he uploads to SkyDrive and watch them as I'm playing to learn from some of his techniques.

You'll have to know everyone's gamertags though? Or can you search by actual name?

Seems like they are taking social media concepts and just applying it to games.. which.. I guess has some logic to it. People use Social Media to mention what movies they are watching, TV shows, when they are at the gym, what restaurants they've eaten at, etc.. and really... why not extend that into gaming? *

* The caveat being a whole truckload of people find such monotonous status updating on social media to be sort of laughable... they don't unfollow their friends because there is some social reason not to, but they aren't following them BECAUSE OF these pointless updates.. it's because they are just.. real life friends. If the only thing XBO sends out as statuses are these rather pointless "things I'm doing".. who is going to care to follow random people?

You follow someone, just like in twitter and you get to view their game feeds, achievement progress, clips etc. They don't have to approve you.

Might you "Follow" someone if you suspect they are a cheater?

Then again, I don't know if the next gen has dealt with this stuff making it unnecessary.

Hell, even I've modded my game save, but only to unlock Deathmatch characters, not gain an unfair advantage. But just from doing that, I can see the potential still for real cheating.

Same as twitter or the new autoupdates they added to facebook. It just allows you to get a quick overview updates on what people are up to.

I've already started adding people.

New SmartGlass app. I was messing with it last night (Android version). There's not a ton to do without the console there but basically you can setup PINS, message people on your friends list, add friends to favorites, follow people and a few other things.

This is what I figured, but I was just in it and couldn't figure out how to follow people.

just add them as a friend in smart glass. I think you need to set your profile to public if you want to be followed.

But how do you follow someone without having them as a friend? Or am I just not understanding how this whole thing works?

Its like twitter, if your profile is public anyone can follow you without asking your first. Same thing, just go to friends and add someone, try Major Nelson he has made his profile public.

Gaming wise, I like to watch MLG matches on YouTube, so I will follow some of the top COD players. I;m sure there would be other reasons to follow someone, but can't think of any.

Ok I'm feeling really dumb but I can't even figure out how to go to someone's profile who is not a friend. How do you do this?

I'm just trying to follow Major Nelson but I can't even get to his profile.

Ah ok. So there isn't an option to just follow then? I guess you just add them as a friend and if they don't add you back you're just following?

Thanks!

Yes, something like that. Like how you follow people in tweeter or something.
