What movies have you seen recently?

The Lego Movie.

Not sure how I felt about the last 10 minutes but the rest was very good. Love Batman and hopefully 2 Has more Sups/Lantern.

Not sure neither. Though Morgan Freeman manages to maintain the fun factors during that time, it's a massive tonal shift from the rest of the film, which is simply hilarious from start to finish. I'm hoping we could see more of Star Wars in the sequel, though with the franchise now under Disney that seems highly unlikely.

A local film archive is playing whole bunch of Brian de Palma and Michael Mann. Some may already know that I am a huge fan of the latter, whose films I'm watching there in the coming weeks.

For now, I came back from Mission: Impossible and Blow Out, and I'm blown out. I feel that voyeurism pervades De Palma's films based on a few films I've seen. There's something that makes his long takes and POV shots extremely sinister unlike the 'holier' ones from Cuaron or such. That seemed extremely exploitative in films like Dressed to Kill, which is the reason I still dislike De Palma deep down. But with M:I and Blow Out, I think these sinister feeling is bound under a good cause. M:I's POV and tracking appears when Tom Cruise initiates a plan to hunt the mole, and Blow Out's most voyeuristic scenes come from the adversaries in unearthing a conspiracy that killed a popular politician.

With this moral security that is not always there with De Palma's thrillers, his great technique simply flies all around the film. De Palma's shots are truly three-dimensional; the use of cinemascope is extremely wide, and there's always a depth in each shot created by a careful layering and staging. And while this is what many good directors always do, he is one of the directors that is not afraid of making that visible. This is especially true when he repeatedly uses a certain shot over and over, adding a second or two before or after it, changing the layer of a shot to convey new informations. What we never noticed, or took for granted, turn out to be very important, and we just missed it because of the specific way that the film showed the shot in a very specific time, showing that film can always deceive us in case we don't notice.

I think this deliberateness of De Palma's film is what makes his films feel sinister, but at the same time very cinematic. And since it's been a while I've been played by a sly auteur, it's been a great ride for 4 hours.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Eh. It is not terrible, but it is a little too sentimental for me. Highly predictable too. Great effects though and some decent action.

Haven't seen one, first time hearing about it. Went up to check the trailer, and I'll see it some day.

Yeah, Blow-Out was a kind of semi-remake of it, except with it being a sound recording instead of a photograph. Obviously very similar kind of paranoia themes in both. Blow-Up is the only movie from Antonioni I've seen but I've heard its his most accessible and popular, his other stuff being a bit divisive apparently. I thought it was great. A reeeeeaaallly slow burning movie, but kept me hooked.

ok, just seen Godzilla. it was 7/10 for me.
when
Bryan Cranston died
the human drama parts died with it.
but there are some great parts (every Godzilla scenes), some good parts (every MUTO scenes), some terrible parts (every Human scenes).
overall, it was enjoyable Godzilla movie.

Problem is there are far too many of the terrible parts, and not enough of the great parts.

I saw Waterworld for the first time in forever. Had a fun time watching it. Too bad it failed huge. I would have liked to have seen more of that universe.

Call me crazy but Godzilla had a really strange conclusion. I mean Godzilla was fighting and crashing down San Francisco, and suddenly he's a hero? Seriously?

The parts where humans tried to fight MUTO were the best for me. The bridge scene was fantastic.

I was talking to my mom the other day and she had a interesting theory, although very unlikely. She thought Godzilla might have been the mom from the beginning of the film.

I remember when that movie came out, and it was considered this huge failure and a terrible movie.

Avoided it for years, loved it when I finally caved in out of curiosity and watched it!

But yeah it was a financial flop (cost a lot to make).

Seen Deliver us From Evil, not a bad little movie, very cliche but had it's fair share of chills and thrills.

Sets, costumes, props, and whatnot were pretty amazing though. Really interesting world too. I always hoped someone would make a modern game of it. Wind Waker style exploration, stealth, unique people and characters to meet, boat combat, and maybe some underwater action as well.

just finished watching LEGO Movie. it's a 10/10 movie for me. i would never thought movie about Lego would be this good. amazing.

Just watched The Graduate for the first time and was slightly disappointed. The first hour or so I thought was excellent, very funny and something I can relate to being a recent college graduate, but kind of felt it tailed off badly in the last 30 minutes. The Simon & Garfunkel soundtrack is great... the first time you hear the songs. After hearing the same track 3 different times it just became irritating (maybe that was the intention). The ending was interesting but I've seen it parodied and referenced so much before that it didn't have a big impact.

Ender's Game

Kinda interesting, kinda weird. It did seem to be faithful to the book so I give it credit for that.

The ending was a little unsatisfying to me, but it was also unsatisfying in the book. Maybe people get more out of this story if you read on into other Ender books which I haven't done yet.

I remember just plowing through the Ender series back in high school. Back then, I could read novels like nobodies business.

Ninja Turtles (2014)

I was very on the fence with the remake and after seeing trailers I did not care for the looks of the turtles. I was a huge fan of the turtles as a kid and saw all the movies and loved them even with how bad (Ninja Turtles III) they were.

I read reviews all day of how bad and average the movie was but I was still excited about going to see it just for nostalgia sake.

I personally thought the movie was awesome! The different looks of the turtles really helped in giving them more personality and individualize each turtle from one another, besides just different colors. I love the way they made the turtles look strong and overpowered, something that lacked in movies past. I did enjoy the new way April has a connection to the turtles, I wont post any spoilers but it was a neat twist. As for Megan's acting, I was pretty meh about it, but whatever I guess. The way they made shredder look in all the battles was pretty awesome, he was very powerful and bad ass, kudos to that. The movie was very well paced, with some good laughs, the elevator scene was pretty awesome, and the end with the turtle van was cool and made me laugh (mikey lol) I had to get the special edition 3-d glasses (donatello) and the turtle cup with toy topper, just to have fun with the experience. All in all, what felt like 30 mins was like 2 hours and the movie came to an end with me wanting more, so I hope there is atleast a trilogy in place as I am excited to see even more turtles!

My rating: Super Awesome/Awesome

Battle if the gods is the best dbz movie, can't wait until 2! Vageta took that punch it was a sign that the rumors will be true. He will finally surpass Goku in the next film. Only made like 2mill I think, but considering it was so limited. It could if made some serious bank! Every show was sold out in my city.

In getting ready for Expendables 3 I re watched part one (directors cut) and watched part 2 for the first time (ducks) I really enjoyed them I liked 2 more, the cameos by Norris (they even made fun of one of his 'Chuck Norris Facts'), and Ahnold, and Bruce. I cannot wait to see EX3 (bring it:bang:).

Just got back from seeing GotG again (still amazing) and Lucy (less amazing).

While I don't think Lucy is bad, there are things I wish were different. I guess I was expecting a super hero movie when that's not what it is by a long shot. Still a fun movie that's a definite blu ray purchase when it gets released.

I'm actually looking forward to the next Hunger Games movie to see what happens next. I doubt I see it in theaters though. I enjoyed the 1st movie and liked the 2nd one more. Did not think I would care for these films they surprised me.

Finally finished The Hobbit:AUJ took me several attempts to get to the end.

I think I'm a bit burnt out on Middle Earth at this point, and the musical number at the beginning was a real wtf moment for me. I know there's songs in the book just like LOTR but I'd prefer they left them there.

Also some of the CGI was way too noticeable and threw me off. Like the part where Gandalf breaks off a boulder and they're pushing it looked like a videogame, or the wolf things at the end didn't look like they were running on the ground all the time.

Otherwise it was fine I guess and I'll watch the other ones at some point. LOTR was awesome and I made sure to read the trilogy before the movies came out and loved them! As I said I'm just not feeling the Hobbit like LOTR partly due more of the same, burned out feeling.

Wreck-It Ralph

It was like Shrek and TRON mashed together with Video Game references and junk food related jokes. I didn't care for Sarah Silverman as Vanellope.

I guess I'm not sure what the intended audience for this is. It's built around Arcade nostalgia but seemingly marketed toward younger people who probably mostly grew up on consoles.

Reservoir Dogs - 8/10

This movie never fails to impress me. Very little action, not even very clever writing, but man do the cast pull it off. From the menacing Michael Madsen to the rabbit caught in headlights Steve Buscemi, they rock it.
One thing I do like is how the self titled cool and professional characters actually seem to be the opposite and the "Maniac" seems exactly that, cool and professional.
Love the soundtrack too, and brief interruptions of the radio DJ with song intros and competition for a Monster truck event.

Its actually amazing how Tarantino pulls of these huge dialogue driven movies. Reservoir dogs, Pulp Fiction, even Death Proof.

Guardians of the Galaxy 8.7
I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 6.0
It was a let down. I grew up on the cartoon show and its toys and the NES game. Megan Fox was ok but she still does the mouth open teeth closed thing 90% of the time.I don't have the heart to see the latest Transformers in the cinema. It's probably exactly like the others from M.Bay.
