What we want to see in the first XBOX ONE OS update

OK so some of us have had 10 or so days with the console and I thought it was about time to see what some of you want to be added or improved upon for the first OS update.

Here is my list.

  • Party Chat - Need to be like the 360's
  • Friends list - make it more like the 360's where if I select a friend I can join him in a game while still in another party chat.
  • Home Screen - allow us the ability to pin items there since this is the default screen
  • Messages - Give us Siri like functionality for sending text messages.
  • Voice Messages - Bring back voice messages
  • Memory Usage - Allow us to see how much space is left and control what we ant on the HDD or other storage once this becomes available
  • Battery Life - give us an indication of how much is left in our controllers, also give us a warning like the 360 controller has when battery is getting low. I should never be in the middle of a match and the controller just die.
  • Nice to have - Let us see what apps are in memory for easy switching

OK so that's my list for now. I am sure there are some other things but for now that's it.

well hold on they are some thing in this party chat that i like. Well for one, I like how when you go into a game and your friends want to go it will ask him if he wants to play with his friend.
Now that party chat channel "yes" that need to go.

Friends system needs some tweaking. I like the fact that you can add someone as a friend and you'll end up just following them, but there really needs to be a way to know when someone has added you as a friend. I'm not sure how it will work though because the other person should be allowed to follow you without you having to add them as a friend. How it is now it's a bit confusing but I'm afraid MS has backed themselves into a wall.
 
How about letting us know when friends come online and when friend requests are sent.

The store needs work and needs a A-Z

Interesting because outside of the first day my frineds and I can't even get party chat to work. We end up using Skype all the time now.

You have to turn on party chat in the part chat window.....all people in the party need to do this on their own part chat screen for each party they are ever in.

that is where I find that stupid, ifyou get in it should be on

Totally agree, I have no idea why it's not always on or at the least you can't amend it in settings to always be defaulted as 'on'.....oversight along with the lack of battery low indicator and the 0 data management options.

Still LOVING the console though, I don't really have any complaints around it just little things which will hopefully be brought in to improve the experience.

This is the part that doesn't work for us. We can get in the party chat but can't turn chat on. Only one person in the party can have it turned on. It's really strange. However it did work the first day.

That is really strange not heard of that problem before, when it happens have you tried ending and restarting the chat?......do you use the kinect or the headset?....maybe try using the option you're not currently using?

Have you/your friends also tried a full cold boot on the console?

Yes tried all of the above. When one of us has party chat enabled and the other tries to enable theirs they will get a message saying "this service isn't available, try again later"

Have you posted this on the Xbox forums or contacted MS? That'd be my next bet, no idea what's going on there I've not seen any other reports of it either o_O

I called support, spent 2 hours on the phone and we went through NAT issues but my NAT was always open and so are my friends. Really strange.
 
Is there any definitive word on when the first update will be?

Damn, the XBO is like this too? This is why I'm not liking either next gen console. The OSes are more of downgrades than upgrades. Hopefully everything starts getting patched in for us.
 
I have the same issue as Haggis with regards to party chat and being forced to Skype call my buddy to actually talk to each other.

Me and my friends have had this problem too. I read on here somewhere that if all of you try partying up without any games or apps running it works. We had the same problem last night whilst 2 of my friends were on Bf4. I told them to close the game come back to home and try again. It worked instantly. Weve had similar issues with forza not receiving invites to games, turnstout you have to leave the party to receive invites. (Thanks sheep shagger).

guide/home button menu that let's you access everything
xbox music run in the background
 
For me, I think that I've grown so accustomed to Xbox 360's tabs and user interface that it's become cumbersome to adapt to the tiles and lack of depth to what we have access to on Xbox One. I was expecting the change, but I do miss the flow of the layout and functionality I have on my Xbox 360- on the Xbox One. In contrast, I love Xbox One's Kinect voice navigation (speed and accuracy) and that only helps to buffer and somewhat compensate the things it feels like it's missing.

Like others have said, I would really appreciate:

Controller Battery Level Indicator.

File Management Access.

External HDD Support (by Spring 2014 would work for me)

Multimedia Support (as it is on Xbox 360 would be great)

Disable Kinect In Game Voice Chat as default. **I'm alright using my mic and if I don't happen to have my mic plugged in, then other's who pop-into the game that I am playing shouldn't have to hear me talking to my kids about their homework because Kinect is auto broadcasting it. Lol.**

Show me when someone has joined my game and who they are. A simple notification like I get on Xbox 360 would suffice.

Show me recently played list ("Xbox, Snap Friends and Recent Players") so that I have the option of submitting feedback and/or friend requesting-following them.

I don't have too many issues with the OS. I just wanna be able to snap achievements after I unlock them, probably a couple other minor things that I'm sure they have in the works. Hopefully with everything broken down into apps they can release updates quicker and we don't have to wait for a full blown OS update.
 
I want to easily see my friends list

I want party chat to work.

I want to be able in invite friends and join friends games in a manner more similar to the 360 (since that actually worked).

One thing I hated about the guide button on the 360 was how slow it was and figured it would be a lot faster with all the resources the One has set aside for the operating system, but this new system actually takes long to invite people to games and parties. Irritating.
 
-Faster access to your actually friends list
-Recent played list needs to come back: how do we submit feedback or follow cool people?
-Like button for the Feed / Upload clips
-Clearer distinction between Friends/Following/Followed By
-Party chat is bewildering and confusing. Seemed to have more control over your parties on 360. Sometimes when I leave a game I find I am in a party even though I never started a party and I was still subjected to all the in-game chatter from lobby players so I am not even sure how it is working. On the 360 you could start a party of one and not use your headset which was effectively the same as muting the entire lobby of shrieking kiddies.
-Join someone's game while staying in different chat party
-Invite someone to party but not game
-Friend notifications
-Notification options so I can more specifically toggle what I want/don't want

-faster access to Achievements
-Achievements treated like cards or flappable tiles so you can flip over and read how you got it rather than clicking and waiting to load description
-Back of tile could also display % of friends and world that have the achievement

-Sections for New Releases, Demos, Add Ons and Most Popular sections. Maybe they are waiting to add A-Z and Genre sections once the store fills out but the others are much needed now.
-If a game has a demo put option to download demo right next to buy game on the games description page
-Sort by PRICE ..has been overlooked for so long

-File management and battery level indicator
-Folders under the Games and App Section
-Ability to play music in background
 
I really just want improvements to the Party Chat. They already said they are coming though, Major Nelson confirmed it.

They need to show all 8 members of the party, make the Party Chat actually work all the time, add a "Kick" feature on the main screen, an "Invite Only" on the main screen (not a screen in), an "Invite Party To Game" feature would be great again, etc.

That's one of my main gripes, almost everything seems to be an extra screen in. Wanna see everybody in the Party...gotta go an extra screen! Wanna make it Invite Only...gotta go an extra screen! Wanna see your Friends or Messages, gotta go an extra screen! (I'm talking if you're just using the controller)

I miss game invites, Join Session In Progress, & actually seeing my friends pop up when they come online so I know they are actually on! lol.
 
Well I had the party chat problem last night...first time ever, would not let me turn party chat on!....I had to re-boot in the end :(
