What you'll need to run GTA V at 4K 30fps, and 1080p 60fps.

If this is all true, then this makes next gen console look that much weaker. :meh:

To be honest, I find the minimum and recommended requirements hard to believe as well.

A Q6600, 4GB Ram, and an ATI 1GB 4870...that is pretty crazy for a game of this size and density. While I understand that will be lowest settings and most like 720P, it still seems very low power wise. Going by that and the recommended settings, which I assume means High settings @1080P, my rather sorry excuse of a rig should be able to play this huge, open-world game @1080P on medium settings. Which is crazy considering it couldn't run GTA 4 well even on low settings.

Remember though that GTA 4 was horribly optimized on the PC.
I have my doubts about this news though.
If this is true Rockstar has really performed a miracle with optimization and this further demonstrates the gulf in power between the PC and console realm.

It was, but I am going by open-world games in general as well. Witcher 2, Dragon age:I, Skyrim, etc.

I hope places like andantech benchmark something close to those minimum settings to see exactly what that offers.

Yea GTA 4 was a terrible, terrible mess of optimization.

They took a long time with GTA V and delayed it several times, hopefully it is optimized this time in which it sounds like it is very optimized.

The graphics options are pretty healthy too.

Video memory slider:
shows you how much video memory is being used in MB.
Ignore suggested limits option: game detects your setup automatically, but you can push your system further if you like.Options for screen type, aspect ratio and refresh rate.
DirectX Version Output monitor: 1-3
Anti-aliasing: FXAA, MSAA and Nvidia TXAA supported.
Pause game on focus loss.
Scaling bars for population density, population variety and distance scaling.
Texture quality: normal to very high.
Shader quality: normal to very high.
Shadow quality: normal to very high.
Reflection quality: normal to very high.
Reflection MSAA
Water quality: normal to very high.
Particles quality: normal to very high.
Grass quality: normal to very high.
Soft shadows options: softer, softest, AMD CHS, Nvidia PCSS
Post FX options: up to ultra.
Motion blur strength: scaling bar.
In-game depth of field effects: on/off.
Anisotropic filtering: up to x16 .
Ambient occlusion options.
Tesellation options.

Advanced graphics
Long shadows: on/off.
High resolution shadows: on/off.
High detail streaming while flying: on/off.
Extended distance scaling bar.
Extended shadow distance bar.
Benchmark testing.

Question: What exactly are post FX effects?

The graphics options are very plentiful, ya know, like a true PC game. lol.

They really did delay this PC release quite a bit ... my guess is they've gone to extra lengths to optimize this thing for PC considering all the negative feedback they had on the GTA 4 port. I have faith that their minimum/recommended specs are realistic.

I think it shows how much work needs to go into making the game as available to a variety of customers as humanly possible for this type of game. It's not as hard with a PS4 or X1 because you know the game will work the exact same way on every console, but the same won't be true for every PC. Thus the long development time for the PC version. They want to sell to as many PC gamers right out of the gate. If anything, it shows Rockstar have learned their lesson and want everyone's experience on the PC to be as smooth as possible. From the low end to the high.

This game's configuration is strange. I can play the game at 4k with nearly everything on very high with a very playable framerate, except for texures and shadows. I can't even play with high or very high textures at 1080P without overshooting my Vram.

The jump from normal textures to high is like four times as costly as going from high to very high. I wonder where the console versions textures fall in that range?

I guess playing at4k is better than not. But I would rather have the high quality textures. I hope modders create some quality textures that aren't as much of a performance hit.

I guess you could lower population density or variety settings (or anything else that adds to vram) to lower the vram usage, then bump textures back to high quality.

Guru 3D ha some benchmarks using the BETA drviers from Nividia and AT.

Before we begin with the graphics performance tests a little explanation. We use a time based measurement and not the internal benchmark. The test is a representative for any modern age GPU.

Our settings are as follows:

Radeon R9 290X 8GB - In dark blue the VRAM measured in AfterBurner - In light blue what the game indicates as VRAM usage with our settings. So overall in the city the VRAM requirement can run higher than prognosed.

The Radeon R9 295x2 is a f***ing beast!!!! I want that graphics card in my system instead of my gtx980.

The VRAM requirements are totally justified, this is a beautiful wide open world game. 3GB+ of VRAM is not surprising to me in the least bit. It makes Watch Dogs PC look even more disgraceful that is already was.

Dude, My 4gb Gtx 980 card is using all 4gb video ram!! And thats maxed out at 1080p Yet the game runs at 10fps on everything maxed out

I have a 2GB 760 and can run everything at very high or ultra @ 1440p except for textures and shadows. MSAA I don't run either as it literally halves my performance.

That's kind of a sweet spot for my system. I get a solid 30fps. Which is fine for me.

Are you running 8xMSAA? I have everything maxed out at 2560x1440 on my 780 Ti and It runs pretty well 50-55fps.

I think my R9 290X should be arriving today for my big screen PC. Can't wait to see how much it walks the old 7950 Boost
