Where is planetside 2?

Yeah thats what I read, I just want a date, 2014 doesn't look feasible even being delayed a full year now.

Yeah, looking forward to this. It is one for the games I bought a ps4 for.

At one point this was "launch", then "launch window", then 2014, now who knows.

Pretty big bummer, this would have been an awesome title to have released during the slow months of summer.

I think it would have been awesome for the summer drought, but the winter is slow too for ps4 exclusives, doesn't even look that will happen.

Good news is we might have a beta in a couple of weeks, but I think I know why the real reason for the delay. Over a year delay is more than just "UI" issues. The quote below is coming from the developer lead:

The slowdowns we have are on the CPU side more than the GPU side. It's because we're tracking and updating so many different players moving on your screen and moving around at once. All that animation and all the audio that's associated with all those characters running around, all of their projectiles being simulated in their client, all those things end up hitting the CPU, not the GPU.

So, generally when our frame-rates are low, it's a CPU problem, not a GPU problem. And that's where we're optimising right now, to get our CPU running faster so the game is running at a more consistent frame-rate on the PS4.

Dat cpu. The ps4's cpu is really going to be a serious crutch the more advanced games get, this is a 2 year old game and its already struggling, and thats coming from a biased sony developer. He has some good things to say in the article, which it should run this older game at high fidelity, but he didn't hold back above at all.

do you have experience with this game? its not your typical 2 year old game. at the time it came out barely anyone could run it. i still can barely run it well on my pc. there are 1200 online players per map. if they get it running well on the ps4 i will be very surprised.

I just find it crazy a sony dev is already complaining about the console's cpu, its not like games are getting less advanced day by day.

The weakest part of the next gen consoles are their CPU's they are absolute trash. Planetside 2 is VERY CPU BOUND. I'll be curious as to how well they get this to run on PS4.

happened last gen too, crap gpu, this gen, crap cpu. I'd rather a more well rounded approach personally instead of putting all their eggs in one basket. The GDDR5 is great though.

The CPU of the PS4 really is poor. And the fact that the GPU isn't too great either means that you can't just offload a ton of CPU work to the GPU and expect a visually feasible game. Just look at all of the problems Assassin's Creed ran into because the developers tried to ignore this fact.

all I hear is how good the gpu on the ps4 is. I mean I remember reading a graph showing it was a decent med grade gpu, but that might have been from 2 years ago lol

It's equivalent to between a 7850 and a 7870 which now a days is a low end GPU. 7870 was a mid range GPU in 2012.
